“So it's only the "liberal wing" of the Democratic Party that wants Lieberman punished? WTF? What the hell is your collective problem, Pitney/Stein?

Letting Lieberman off the hook is just another shining example of Democratic weakness, and capitulation. They think it's strength, but see how well that plays out in 2012.”

Presidential Debate Reactions: Pundits Weigh In

Commented Oct 08, 2008 at 03:44:07 in Politics

“Political Wire is the most spot on in my opinion.

If there was one word that kept coming up for me all night, it was OLD. Old in McCain's mannerism, his movement, his attitude, and certainly his ideology. Why bring up so much history?

His two references to his hero Ronald Reagan were undermined by his professing of his anti-Reagan stance on Lebanon. By tomorrow, his already self-contradicted comparison to his [other] hero Teddy Roosevelt will be torn apart by a simple Google search which will display examples of his support for a big fat pork barrel project of the aircraft carrier that he helped force on the taxpayers.

As for the winner of the debate, anyone who thinks it was a draw needs to put down their cup of Kool-Aid. I'm happy to admit that Obama flubbed a few responses, and that he let me down more than once when not directly answering some of the questions. But McCain had every opportunity in the world to present his vision for America's future, and while he said he had one, he never presented it, nor came remotely close to providing an example of why he should be the leader of the greatest country on Earth, apart from just suggesting that we should take him at his word, a word most people cannot trust anymore.

When you see the forest, Obama is all evergreen, while McCain is a lone Bristlecone Pine, stubbornly resisting the weathering of time.”

DeeDeeDaGumby replied on Oct 08, 2008 at 09:19:15

“to me McCain's best moment came 1 hr and 25 minutes in the debate. He was sitting head down, looking beat and he never even brought the mike up to his mouth really, just had it in his lap. He started talking about foreign policy and it seemed to me he had a moment of lucidity. He was not talking with that fake voice we have gotten use to, it was just John talking about something he seemed to have known about. The moment lasted for about 2 minutes then the sad old guy came back. Just my take on what I saw.”

rock2casbah replied on Oct 08, 2008 at 08:10:02

“I didn't take it as not directly answering. I took it as smart and shrewd not to take Brokaw's bait. Obama is nobody's fool. Why would he commit to naming a Secretary of the Treasury that particular evening? The public did not want to know that. As Obama said they saw the caliber of advisors he has already tapped.

There were just a bunch of "I gotcha" questions(take note Palin, this is what a real " gotcha queston sounds like) that had nothing to do with smart answers. Give me a yes or no, is Russia evil? What kind of nonsensical question is that. Who would not have a nuanced answer for such a trap of a question?. A president would have to work with just those same "evil" people in the future.

Tom Brokaw chose those stupid questions, which speaks volumes on his competence during this debate.”

Advice to the "locals" - see this for what it is. When you read a pro-McCain or Obama-hating comment, call it out as a phony "out-sourced" (as in, some foreign national practicing English by getting paid by the word) McCain supporter-for-hire. He's been doing it for a while, and here's proof:

“I think Keith and Glenn are both right in different ways. Per KO's comment, I'll follow John Dean on this one, and wholeheartedly agree that he is worth 25 GGs and 26 KOs. I am as fuming mad at BO for this triangulation, to the point of considering not donating or volunteering as I have in the past, but if there is any truth to the notion that the "soft on terror" attacks are trumped by this move, and that the possibility for criminal prosecution is still on the table, then BO's change in position makes sense. I don't know enough about Constitutional law to have a solid understanding of this, and I believe GG comes up short on this as well. But John Dean certainly knows more about Constitutional law than just about anyone alive, so I'd defer to his judgment on this.”

I dont understand some of you people's logic. I wish I could- maybe it would be a better issue to debate. But its not. Americans should without a doubt have the right to bear arms.

Or arm bears. Or arm themselves against armed bears. lol”

Serenity Lost: Obama And The Netroots

Commented Jun 25, 2008 at 12:50:49 in Politics

“I don't quite understand how trampling the Constitution is a matter that only the netroots are upset about. It's abhorrent that most Americans don't seem bothered by this. Abhorrent, but understandable when you stop to consider the degree of ignorance and apathy in this country, as well as mass media complacency on matters of grave importance affecting this country. Most who know me think that I am an "Obamabot" - and I have traveled to red states to campaign for him. But I care a lot more about the Constitution than I do any single man, and if Obama is complicit in the success of the FISA "compromise", that will be a travesty that I cannot forgive. Two major points to consider: 1) Obama gave his word that he would do everything he could to oppose telco amnesty. If he breaks his word on such an important issue, then how can he be trusted? 2) If he allows for the trampling of the Constitution, then he has shown contempt for the very laws that serve as the bedrock of our nation. He would no more deserve to be president than Bush.”
