Don't we all have the common sense to understand when animosity is directed at us and why? And unless you are there in that moment--how can you tell me what I did or did not experience?

It added insult to injury and changed my relationship with them more often than not.

I think people just don't like to examine the ugly side of human nature--or acknowledge that they too could be part of the problem in some way.
