The cooperatives as currently proposed would provide no Medicare-like fall back position, and all of this will cost about $1 trillion. [538] The current proposal is not a pig in a poke – it's pure pork for the health insurance industry. However, we do have an object lesson here. Members of Congress who want to support the insurance industry are far more concerned with what health care reform will cost the Treasury of the United States, and far less concerned with what failing to reform health care will cost the economy of the United States and the people who make that economy grow.
