“"Government is the reason our current system is expensive. More government won't fix that problem."
Um, what? I thought that corporate greed was the reason our current system is so expensive.
Do some research flossophy- Canada, Taiwan, France, Germany, Japan, etc...
all have affordable systems of healthcare ran by the government. Your argument is old and tired.
Government is bad, mmmkay? thats all I hear. What about all the fact that corporate interests are bad when entangled with government? Or that government is bad when it is populated by shills for corporate interests? How about BACKING UP what you say with sound logic instead of throwing out recycled teabagger soundbites?”

“Those countries cap their health care budgets and ration services. The UK and France are building up private systems parallel to their unsustainable government run systems.
Medicare has 37 trillion in unfunded liabilities. It is the biggest thr3at to our economic stability in the years ahead.
Expanding government's role in health care will only accelerate our economic problems.”

“Nope, doesn't sound like a conservative actually.
Conservatives will do anything to keep the status quo. The current bill does just that. Keith thinks the status quo is wrong. Therefore, he is protesting by refusing to buy mandated insurance.
Refusing a public option, single payer or Medicare buy-in is just plain stupid.
Refusing a government approved private insurance program that sells you and your family out to a system that has a 100% profit motive is smart.
Conservative are NOT SMART.
Get it?”

“I love how when people stand for something, even if it is in criticism of their own party it is called 'progressive fighting' and automatically the Republicans win. bullshit. We can stand together but we will never cease voicing a critique about a system gone wrong- wether it is Dems of Repubs that are the force behind the dysfunction.
Someone's life will be saved by this legislation? Give me a break! Without proper competition or CHOICE about what kind of healthcare insurance the people receive, the private companies ALWAYS WIN. When the people who administer the funds for care have their main motive as PROFIT and not LIVES- nobody's gonna be "saved."”

It would help if you were a little less polarizing in your statements. It does not serve your cause to denigrate other people's choices. We need to inspire compassion in people so that those who do go on to eat meat will at least adopt a conscious attitude and start going down to the farmer's market for their purchases at least.
As for who died for me today, I DO think about it. I AM grateful to ever chicken, cow, pig, etc.... that died so that I could be sustained. So please, try to consider some of the nuances here and stop demonizing the entire population of people who eat meat as "callous carnivores ." It really does not serve your cause.”

“veganvixen,
your argument is not salient:
"Whether you want to hear it or not, if you eat meat and/or eggs, you do support this cruel business. It's about supply and demand. If there's no longer a demand for it, then these farmers wouldn't be doing this."
I eat eggs. I eat PASTURE raised fresh farm eggs. Yeah, they cost $7 p/dozen. I have kept and raised my own chickens.. .I never ground up baby chicks. I live in an urban setting now and can't have chickens so thats why I spend the big bucks.
The reason I say your argument is not salient is b/c. Eating meat/eggs does not always EQUATE to a support of these practices. I buy my meat from local Farmers. I pick and choose carefully. You are right that w/o demand supply would diminish. But can we take it a step further? Why not we just get more specific about our demand? Like refusing to get our meat from factory farms...an d if you can't get the meat from a local ethical purveyor.. .well, its time to just go veg for dinner that night.”

“i never understood the phrase "meat is murder." Don't get me wrong here, I support the end of factory farms and unethical treatment of animals. I find the video above to be horrific. However, there are so many creatures on earth who have to eat meat to survive... nature's predators like Tigers, Lions, etc..etc.. .
Are all these creatures murderers?
A murderer is a person who takes the life of another person. Do not conflate these two moral issues for inflammatory purposes. Its insulting.”

Human beings lack the speed to catch prey.
Human beings lack natural camouflage.
Human beings lack the ability to process uncooked meat without risk of getting very ill, especially in large quantities.
Human beings do not require a single nutrient that is exclusive to meat.
Our ability to eat reasonably large quantities of meat is facilitated only by our use of tools which is, from an evolutionary standpoint, a very, very recent phenomenon. We have simply not been using advanced tools long enough to have evolved such a radically different digestive system that our natural diet would be so altered that meat would become the staple of it.”
