This decade did NOT begin in the year 2000 for the simple basic reason that there was NO year 0 BC or 0 AD. The Gregorian calendar goes from 1BC to 1AD and every decade is counted from the 1st year (and not the "0" - Zero year of the previous decade) to the 10th year. And so tge year 2000 woul be the 10th year of the last decade of the last Century and Millenium. (incidentally, this information is also on Wikipidiea, if you're going to rely on them for information - the only difference is that, unlike your source this one is mathematically and logically sound.:-
