“I like to compare Obama to other presidents in their first year of office. The ones who were the greats didn't get much done. One of the better first year presidencies was, wait for it.... Jimmy Carter.”

“Jobs were not shipped overseas under Clinton the way it was under Reagan and the Bushes. It actually slowed down at the same time massive amounts of real well paid jobs were created. These were the ones that rapidly went to China and India during the Bush years.”

“Reagan's economy was far worse than Carter's. Worst recession (still) since the Depression. Reagan was lucky enough Congress had balls to stand up to his excesses and righted the economy just in time for his reelection. And still later on he gave us the worst stock market crash of all time.”

“Carter inherited double digit inflation from Ford/Nixon. Carter didn't have American hijacked plane explode over Scotland. Bush didn't think that people would possible attack the World Trade Center. Nixon LOST Vietnam, No one focuses on his broken 1968 promise to get out in his first term. Eisenhower started the whole Vietnam mess in the first place AND lost Cuba to the communists.”

“The rest of the world except for the theocracy of the middle east shake their heads because so many of us STILL believe in an invisible cloud being in the sky. That what is leading to our decline. The clinging on to archaic traditions that keep us from making real progress.

You just described something all the Republican administrations in the last fifty years failed to do. Especially the first one. That's how Republicans won. Spend but don't save. Don't raise revenue to pay for endless wars.”

“ALL the conservatives were VERY happy with George Bush throughout his administration.

Conservatives kept saying he was better than Reagan at pursuing the conservative dream. Reagan had Tip O'Neil to keep his spending excesses in check. Bush had no obstacles as he took the biggest surplus in American history and gave us the biggest deficits in history. And the conservatives cheered.

That is until conservatism failed spectacularly as it always will in practice. Then they tried to pretend it wasn't Bush's conservatism that did it in.

With Clinton we had nothing but Peace and Prosperity.”

DemocraticStraits replied on Nov 22, 2009 at 18:38:38

“I'd be laughing out loud at your incredible sarcasm if I didn't know you were serious.

1. Not true. REAL conservatives were not happy at all. Medicare Part D, the failure to bring Iraq and Afghanistan to a close more rapidly. And even neo-conservatives with their "get rid of all the immigrants" schtick weren't happy.

2. Please cite ONE conservative that said he was better than Reagan. One. I have never heard that EVER.

3. Really?!? Tip O'Neil kept Reagan in check? You're high. Reagan and O'Neill colluded to spend pretty much as much as each other wanted on their own priorities.

4. Clinton had the first major terrorist attack on our soil, didn't do anything about it, dropped the opportunity to grab Bin Laden, got us into a war in Europe (fortunately, an easy one) and the prosperity had NOTHING to do with Clinton. It had to do with Gingrich's welfare reform and budget stinginess, the internet bubble and the fact that we were riding high on kicking butt in Kuwait. Read.”
