“Thank you for this post Arianna. Yes, these guys ought to be fried. On a different note, I recently had to look up this famous phrase...t his is from Wfor those of you historically inclined.. .:) ( I do like the reference to "Madame Déficit".. .)
"Let them eat cake..." is a translation of "qu'ils mangent de la brioche." ... brioche is actually a type of highly enriched bread... While typically attributed to Marie Antoinette, (she was to have uttered it during a famine when alerted that people were suffering due to widespread bread shortages) the original source is not settled among historians. English historian Antonia Fraser, states: "[Let them eat cake] was said 100 years before her by Marie-Therese, the wife of Louis XIV. It was a callous and ignorant statement and she [Marie Antoinette] was neither."
...From the beginning of his reign, Louis XVI was seen as ineffective, uninformed and naive, while Marie Antoinette's frivolity and extravagance were seen as factors that worsened France's economic recession. ..the public was so convinced that it was Antoinette who had single-handedly ruined France's finances that they gave her the nickname "Madame Déficit."
In Confessions, in 1767, Rousseau stated: "At length I recollected the thoughtless saying of a great princess, who, on being informed that the country people had no bread, replied, "Then let them eat pastry!"
Marie Antoinette arrived at Versailles from Austria in 1770... Whoever the "great princess" was, it was not Marie Antoinette ."”

“Kria, I am looking at the above picture of the protests - the protesters sure don't look like "some thugs" - and are you suggesting that Icelandic news media are lying about what is going on in the country? Yesterday I saw on one of them that 6,000 had gathered to protest, peacefully, the story noted, in downtown Reykjavik.
As for "Iceland is burning" being "nonsense" - a fire was started in front of the parliament house - pictures of which were distributed all over the world - so ... "burning". .. Looks also like Icelanders are "burning" with anger... When you look at Icelandic news sites, this seems to be the "burning" issue...
As for Watergate/Deep throat reference - what has the only way this information will get out is if someone within the government or the banks divulges it. (oh, and one of Iceland's "public servants" the Minister of Commerce, just resigned, saying he is one of those responsible for the collapse).”

“while some of those are unusual, attention-getting names, they are not Jeffrey Dahmer or Adolph Hitler.
the Campbell children were not removed because of their names - that's the only statement children's services has made. I don't think anyone thinks they should be removed from their (stupid and selfish) parents solely because of the not just unusual names they were given. But it seems likely the (stupid and selfish) parents are involved with a group or groups whose activities are criminal, or at least less than appropriate for children.
Unusual names are fine - i didn't want my daughter to be one of the seventeen Ashleys in her class... neither did I name her after a despicable person from our history books.”

“Down here in the South, kids are often named for celebrities, so look for these to be passed on. I do know that Dweezil and Moon Unit were named to ridicule influential relatives of a child abuser. Rumer, Destry, Hopper, and Cole are family names, and Tallulah and Shiloh place names, a custom peculiar to two families of my acquaintance. Tallulah, in addition, was the given name of a famous 1930's Broadway actress, the daughter of an Alabama senator.
As for other names, I've seen children named Kojak (FL), Mary Juana Johnson (FL panhandle) and, gone to other climes, the children of an auto fancier, Rusty Ford Tudor and Dusty Dodge Tudor. And, of course, the ever-popular Merry Christmas and Krystal Burger.
I wouldn't make it illegal. These kids get much tolerance and help from teachers and community, and it is far better to have the family's pathologies out in the open for the community to correct, than hidden to grow and bloom into serious idiots in private.”
