The Cash Bowl, or, Why There Will Never Be a College Football Playoff

Commented Dec 27, 2009 at 21:54:38 in Sports

“There won't be a playoff in college football anytime soon. The people in charge of the BCS conferences don't want to share the money with the non-BCS schools, which would happen if there was a playoff. That, plus the college presidents find religion when it comes to a playoff in D-1A college football. They're worried about their student athletes missing too much class time; however, that argument never comes up during March Madness.”

Pacquiao Lifts Boxing off the Canvas

Commented Nov 17, 2009 at 08:15:07 in Sports

“I hope that Mayweather and Pacquiao fight next year. Like you said, the only haggling point would be who'd get the bigger split of the money. The only legit reason I'd see Mayweather not taking the fight would be if he fought Shane Mosley. Other than that, there's no more excuses Floyd. Can't say Manny's not a big enough draw for you or that he's not in your league.”

Gordon Marino replied on Nov 17, 2009 at 23:41:42

“He's not going to fight Shane. He's been ducking him for years. There is no excuse not to fight Manny. I'm sure he is going to get around to it. Thanks.Gordon”

Gordon Marino replied on Nov 17, 2009 at 20:28:04

“But he has been ducking Shane for years- so I don't see him in there with Shane. He'll come to terms with the Pac Man.
Thanks.

In the Case of Rush Limbaugh, Activism Once Again Prevails

Commented Oct 23, 2009 at 16:25:14 in Politics

“I'd like to thank Rev. Sharpton for speaking up for the little people and the voiceless. Rush Limbaugh is going around blaming everybody else for the fact that his own words came back to bite him in the butt. R(Fl)ush couldn't have possibly believed that his racially charged words were going to fly when he's trying to buy into a business where most of his employees were the same people he's been belittling for so long. Yes, I'm willing to say a good number of the owners in the NFL probably share Lim(p)baugh's idealogy, however they aren't dumb enough to go broadcast their thoughts to the world.”

In the Case of Rush Limbaugh, Activism Once Again Prevails

Commented Oct 20, 2009 at 13:36:52 in Politics

“No, but you've never heard any of them get on the radio and say some of things that Limbaugh has been accused of saying.”

lexkw replied on Oct 20, 2009 at 14:58:34

“Actually, I've never heard Limbaugh say some of the things he is accused of saying. That's the whole point. The things he was accused of saying regarding slavery were never said.”

A Little Talk with the Man Who Prayed for Obama's Death

Commented Jun 22, 2009 at 17:10:11 in Politics

“What type of Christian openly prays for the death of another human being?”

Gidster replied on Jun 22, 2009 at 23:04:57

“The garden variety Christian prays for the death of all of his, and therefor "God's" enemies.

It's hubris.”

ProudLiberalDemocrat replied on Jun 22, 2009 at 17:58:29

“Gandhi was quoted as saying something similar to, "I like your Christ. But I do not like your Christians; they are so unlike your Christ."

History gives us at least one thing to learn from Christs' teachings - do unto others as you would have done unto you. This Golden Rule is being tarnished by all these so-called Christians. Shame.”

“It's sickening that the Bush administration made low ranking soldiers, who can't disobey his/her commanding officer, take the rap for their sins. All I have to say is karma's a *****, so if I was Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, et. al, I wouldn't be sleeping very comfortably.”

What If Jon Stewart, Instead of John King, Interviewed Dick Cheney

Commented Mar 17, 2009 at 17:10:44 in Media

“There's no way in the world that Cheney is going to sit through an interview where he'll be forced to answer some tough questions and accept some type of accountability for the shape the country's in. Imagine if John King decided to actually have some probing follow up questions to some of the answers Cheney gave him. The Bush administration's mission of legacy clean up would go right down the toilet.”

Michael Steele's Heavy Handed Hip Hop

Commented Mar 04, 2009 at 19:20:39 in Politics

“There's one thing my generation hates; that's to feel like we're being spoken to like we're not intelligent. Or like we're being pandered to. We see that President Obama is a genuine person and that he understands where my generation is coming from. Michael Steele comes across like a phony or like 50 Cent would call him, a wanksta. Just because you throw around outdated slang and try to come across as bold, that doesn't mean that we'll switch party affiliations. The GOP has shown me and my generation time and time again that they don't care about us or our issues. I agree that the GOP needs to become more diverse, but as long as they have people like Limpbaugh being the defacto mouthpiece/leader and people like Michael Steele who won't stand up to him (or stand up to him only to grovel for his forgiveness), then it'll be the same old GOP.”

00angel replied on Mar 05, 2009 at 00:42:30

“There is a tendency to generalize that can’t be healthy; remember that for every Limpbaugh there will be a Rev. Wright who certainly does not appeal to this 29 years old citizen”

Raphi replied on Mar 04, 2009 at 21:54:58

“I'm a working class boomer. And yes, I was a protester. The WWII generation seemed out of touch to us. Partly true; our music and our way of altered consciousness wasn't theirs. Yet I was smart enough to know that "don't trust anyone over 30" was total crap. Seniority does count. Presuming we're talking 30 years of real experience and not 1 year repeated 30 times. But I get what you mean about being treated like an idiot. We working people are supposed to feel a connection with the economic elite because the Republicans trot out Joe the Plumber or Sarah Palin. The same elite which thought we peasants should just keep our place and fund our betters. The bonuses continuing post bailout with neither the Wall Streeters nor their Republican minions seeing any problem. However, millions of us can actually read, write, and think. And may know a few things the economic elite or academics overlook. Class prejudice is a taboo the new administration seems to be aware of. Only when we have respect, have the opportunity for meaningful participation in our own government and economic systems, will this country truly be a democracy.”

JustMyWords replied on Mar 04, 2009 at 21:17:21

“Granted Congress wrote the bill, but it was President Obama's brainchild and Pres. Obama was the face of the bill. I don't see what a crazed chimp who attacked a woman has to do with the stimulus bill. The only thing I got from the "cartoon" was that Delonas was calling President Obama a chimp, which is racist and was calling for him to be shot, which is treasonous. So I guess in your eyes I'm not intellectually responsible huh?”

Michael Steele Gets Funky for the RNC

“If I see Michael Steele come to a news conference sporting a doo-rag, some new Jordans, a lot of gold chains and a Flavor Flav clock around his neck, I wouldn't know whether to just laugh at him or hang my head in shame for the obvious way he's patronizing my generation.”

“President Obama makes us African Americans proud whereas Michael Steele makes us just shake our heads in disgust. I guess if I checked my pride and self worth at the door, sold out every principle I believed in to get ahead and allowed myself to be used as a pawn, tool, token, maybe I could be in charge of the GOP too.”

LeftCoastLefthandedLefty replied on Feb 03, 2009 at 14:30:41

“You could. I have a lifelong friend who did it when he became dissattisfied with his careerpath through the Democratic Party.

He has always been a social climber but his ability to put his own selfish interests ahead of his community, has really soured our friendship. His reward for the betrayal: A small chain of filling stations, and a generation of suffering”

alumtrix replied on Feb 03, 2009 at 12:56:08

“You need to re-read everything you just posted and then look in the mirror and you'll see a racist looking back at you. I don't consider whites who are dems to have sold out and checked their principles at the door. We just don't think alike. And there's nothing wrong with that. You should let Steele have his own convictions and beliefs and just because they don't JIVE with yours, doesn't make him a bad person or wrong. In case you haven't noticed, the blacks that are moving to the conservative side of the isle are the better educated and more productive people in our society and we certainly welcome anyone of their caliber.”

JMBrodie replied on Feb 03, 2009 at 11:42:42

“One thing we have always known is not to judge the book by the cover. Obama is well into his process of proving who he is; Steele has a long ways to go -- and truly, a much bigger job than Obama.

I don't know if Steele is up to it. I don't believe that the Republican base will back him.

I have been wrong before. I'll sit and watch this one play out.”

“Typical Faux News. Deriding a song that expresses pride over the fact that Black Americans have one of our own in the White House, whereas a song that is derisive and racist in nature is defended as satire. Someone on that network is going to slip up and say the wrong thing about how they really feel about President Obama and then the FCC could possibly pull the plug on this "news" network.”

“I agree and disagree with your assessment Mr. Hutchinson. I think that by ignoring people like Limpbaugh, you don't feed his California sized ego. But if you ignore him, you take the chance of having people actually believe the toxic lies that he spews. Like someone mentioned, look at what the Swift Boaters did to John Kerry's campaign back in 2004. If he had actually chose to stand up to them and fight their lies, he might have actually won. That's why I'm happy Obama called Rush out by name. President Obama showed that he will actually tackle every lie and mistruth about him headon and that's what's needed. He's showing he's willing to work with the right wingers but if they're going to impede what's best for the country by grandstanding, then maybe it's best that he does call them out and tell them to stop listening to people of Limpbaugh's and Hannity's ilk because that's what got us into this mess in the first place.”

VSamuels replied on Jan 26, 2009 at 14:21:09

“You might wish to get on the sidewalk and out of the weeds where Hutchinson resides. I'd suggest you browse his other gems of advice aimed at Obama which proved as idiotic as this one. While Thos. Sowell, that serial black bootlicker extraordinaire is fairly clear in his anomosity towards Obama, Earl here is much more sneaky as he pretends to be the giver of free advice.

I think this is more the final acts of those who made the wrong political calculations trying to find a few bloggers to play nice with them and ignore their fundamental arguments in support of one Hillary Clinton.”

If we let them ride off into the sunset after all the chaos and disorder they created, it will be like the country approved of everything that they claimed to do "in the best interests of the United States", where most rational people know that they only did everything they did out of a self-serving nature and that we all didn't approve of their actions.”

Debbie1996 replied on Nov 03, 2008 at 19:16:33

“This is one of those great sound bites that is completely devoid of meaning. Companies who are based and manufacture in America are subject to US tax policy. Companies that pick up and move their operation overseas pay taxes in their new country. If the tax rates are lower in that country, they pay lower taxes, but the implication that the US is giving them a BREAK for moving their operations is misleading at best.”
