“not sure why so many haters on Leno? do we just have super high expectations for him?

since being laid off this year, we got rid of cable, our DVR, and I have to say that I enjoy watching Leno at 8pm (we are Central). there is nothing else on except gory crime shows. blah. I wish Conan started earlier as well. He has really stepped it up.

it is not always great, but like the article above states, Leno is WAY funnier than SNL. You can watch SNL for an 1.5hrs and get maybe 5 minutes of something funny. (and half of that is probably the SNL fake commercial, and the other half is "weekend update" -- the rest is usually lame....

Leno is not the best, but he is better than the alternatives imo.”

BabaLou7 replied on Nov 29, 2009 at 19:16:20

“I was a huge fan of the Leno Tonight Show, but this new show has lost a lot of the pizazz and edge the other one had; it's flaccid.

On the other hand, The Lopez Show is exciting and has the edge that none of the white late night hosts have.”

Having lived in Brazil for several years and familiar with some of the environmental issues there (yet by no means an expert)-- >

sugarcane production has nothing really to do with deforestation.

Well established areas for sugarcane production have been in place for dozens of years and with brazil's climate, sugarcane grows at amazing rates - allowing brazil to have a large number of cars on the roadways that are powered by alcohol provided by "sustainable" means.”

“There are many doctors in favor of reform, there are many Repubs and conservatives in favor of reform. There are many people of all colors and ethnicities that want reform... but what is the change to take place.

If you want change, make the system work better, get rid of the waste, open the books for transparency, provide unbiased info.

The problem is that this reform is not the change we want.
Change is not buying GM.
Change is not giving taxpayer money to buy cars.
Change is not buying AIG and paying billions in bonuses.
Change is not calling the previous admin toturers and then keeping many invasive provisions of the Patriot Act.
Change is not quadrupling the recod national deficit.
Change is not Cap & Trade and making utilities "necessarily skyrocket."
Change is not cutting deals with PhRMA and Insurers.
Change is not saying you are past race, then calling people bi*g*ots.

This is not the change we want, we don't want to blow up or manufacturing, our economy, our healthcare, our banking systems and then instilling what a few Far Left politicians wish to create in America. THIS IS NOT THE CHANGE WE WERE PROMISED!”

President Obama Will Likely Dump the Public Option, and Here's Why

Commented Aug 19, 2009 at 18:50:02 in Politics

“Mr Hutchinson,

Great article.

One thing that seems to be missing from the health care conversation is TORT REFORM. This is a major component that is missing if we are going to be able to have true reform.

While I fully agree that health insurance companies can never have their clients best interests at heart when they are answering to the bottom line and stockholders, we need to remember that part of the reason that costs are rising so rapidly is due to exorbitant lawsuits.

While it is important to be able to claim restitution for a bad decision that causes major harm to a patient, our juries are all to willing to treat any case as a winning lottery ticket for the plaintiff. This must stop. Fair restitution, fine, but "winning the lottery" because of a minor issue that caused some mild grief and pain...”

“I was infected with a bacteria by my OB/GYN during a routine annual exam. It almost killed me. My former doctor spent most of her energy trying to ensure she couldn't be sued instead of ensuring I was getting the best care. She never admitted to doing anything wrong. She gave me a bacteria and was paid very well for that. I was blessed to have access to an alternative and for all the nurses that took care of me in the hospital.

That one experience changed my views on our healthcare system.

Hospitals are full of staph germs that put patients' health at greater risk. Waiting rooms are also filled with germs. They are both environments add risks. Doctors need to be held accountable for their practices, especially when they affect the health of their patients.

I know now that my doctor cut corners. She was short on nurses and continued to treat patients. She knowingly created a risk to me and all of her patients. I suffered for her desire to make money. She could have canceled my appointment. Instead, she gambled with my health.

It is always about the dollar. I should have sued, but I didn't have the energy. Until someone comes up with an alternative; folks need to be able to sue. Money is the only thing that talks.”

“One thing that seems to be absent from the conversation is TORT REFORM.

- We need a public option
- We need to provide a means for those without an employer sponsored plan and pre-existing conditions to be covered.
- We need to focus on becoming more healthy, eating right, exercising, etc.,

- But.... we also need to reduce the absurd amounts people get from malpractice lawsuits...Tort Reform this is a major component of why our healthcare costs keep going up.”

smj32 replied on Aug 19, 2009 at 12:29:48

“A woman in my community had surgery and a tool was left inside her. She died and her husband sued. Anyone that thinks people shouldn't be allowed to sue is an a/hole.”

unity08 replied on Aug 19, 2009 at 11:51:07

“While I would agree some tort reform is in order, I would rather they concentrate on frivolous lawsuits than capping amounts for true mal-practice.

Texas has tort reform and our insurance cost are still pretty high and we have a very high uninsured population. So it has certainly not been a major factor, in cost or coverage.”

DedicatedDiva replied on Aug 19, 2009 at 10:51:58

“Give up the tort reform refrain please. Not only do you want it so that I have to pay whatever the insurance companies tell me to, accept whatever they decide to pay for or not pay for, accept that they can drop me when I get sick or not even cover me if I am already sick, and kick me out of the hospital 24 hours after surgery, you also want me to give up my right to sue when I am damaged by the system! Tort reform is not the issue.”

squat6971 replied on Aug 19, 2009 at 10:36:32

PWM replied on Aug 19, 2009 at 09:45:59

I am tired of arguing with people like this that don't have a clue about health care and are concerned about their own selfish lives.

I love it when Republicans are SOOOOOOOOO concerned about spending money on health care after eight years of plundering not just the private sector but OUR money as well. And they act like they never did ANYTHING.
