#MannersMondays: Does The 'Cover Your Plate' Rule Still Exist?

#MannersMondays: Does The 'Cover Your Plate' Rule Still Exist?

Commented Aug 6, 2013 at 14:11:54 in Weddings

“You said it very well. Just like you don't buy a house beyond your means, or a car beyond your means, or even an education beyond your means, you don't have a party beyond your means. I look forward to a wedding where they only take cash gifts and donate them to a charity. I do that with birthdays in my family. I buy my kids a good deal of gifts in lieu :-)”

“Wow! I don't think people look up the meaning of gift. If there is a rule on how much to give, then it isn't a gift. It's a cover charge. Why don't you just come out and call it that.”

S.C. Primary Results: Mitt Romney Faces Enthusiasm Problem

Commented Jan 22, 2012 at 00:13:01 in Politics

“Am I the only one to see some weird numbers? Among Romney's supporters, 11% will reluctantly support him and 1% will NOT support him if he won the nomination? What the heck is that?”

miranche on Jan 22, 2012 at 00:21:33

“The numbers add up to 100% horizontally. So among those who would enthusiastically support Romney in the general election, 30% have voted for Gingrich, 4% for Paul, 1% for Perry, 56% for Romney, 9% for Santorum. Among those who'd support Romney with reservations, 50% are voting for Gingrich etc.”

“Hmm..... Perhaps I would keep Saddam where he is. But Castro comes way after Pol Pot, Idi Amin”

“Even among middle eastern dictators there's nothing really unique about Saddam's tyranny.”

“Really? It is a pretty pathetic list. Before I put Castro (or even Saddam), I would be looking at Pol Pot, Idi Amin, Shah of Iran, and so many more. Saddam & Castro come way down the line, if we are looking at real history.”

“It's like he literally excluded any name from the list that was a former ally of the United States. That seems to be the only common theme among the names not listed.”
