Way to think like an American, first. We need more like you in the loyal opposition. Heck, I'd settle for HAVING a loyal opposition.”

“Beck's show is filled with the same sort of blatantly foolish hypocrisy. How could we forget his classic interview with Craig T. Nelson: "I've been on food stamps and welfare, did anybody help me out?"
To buy their "logic" you would have to be intentionally, willfully ignorant.”

“You have a right to speak and assemble. However, you cannot touch me. You are not allowed to get in my car unless I invite you. You are not allowed to harass me. Your right to free speech and assembly also doesn't include slander or threats of violence. You also don't get to shout into a bullhorn all night long where people are trying to sleep.
That pesky old Constitution also says we have the right to be secure in our persons. If you do any of that stuff, you're trampling on my rights.”

“Regarding the OJ image, I knew Matt Mahurin in high school in the mid-70s. Even as a teenager he was a brilliant artist. He was also probably the nicest person in school. In spite of his noticeable talent he was never egotistical and he was kind to everyone regardless of social status, appearance or race. I believe his big mistake was in being an artist rather than a politician.”
cdsister replied on Apr 22, 2009 at 02:41:43
“Why would you "art up" a photo for a cover unless you mean tot change the perception of the viewer. Not good for a serious paper. He did not make OJ more compelling in a positive way. He looked like he was living on the "dark side"! He may or may not have murdered his wife and the poor waiter, but the story should have stood on it's own. Not the cover/altered photo becoming the story, as it often does these days.”

“1980 was my first Presidential election; I was 20, and voted for John Anderson. Ah, the idealism of youth!
The canonization of Reagan totally baffles me. Remember the movie The Day After? Kids today think I'm nuts when I tell them the mid 80s was a time when some of us woke up every morning thinking, "Today could be the day..." The possibility of nuclear war was a daily reality, thanks to Ronald "Evil Empire" Reagan. The fact that McCain claims to revere him so much speaks directly to his character, or lack thereof. It's way too early to be making solid judgements about Obama, but we dodged a proverbial bullet by not electing McCain.”

“Nancy Reagan barely tolerates him. She was great friends with Carol and Nancy was appalled at his treatment of her. He returned from Vietnam and his former swimsuit model was no longer a "hottie" as she'd been badly injured in a car accident. Never mind that she took McCain right back in spite of his grievous injuries, he dumped her for a new model (that he test drove for quite a while before spilling the beans).
No...to her credit, Nancy Reagan is no John McCain fan.”

“I have always been astonished and appalled at the amount of empty hero worship that goes to Ronald Reagan. True he was personally likable, but it only made his actions that much worse. In politics, his nasty, hard-right ideology trumped his personal kindness and it was as destructive as it was contradictory.”

“Very succinctly put.
I would add that, while people certainly don't stand a chance against tanks, artillery and aircraft, the fact is that throughout the 20th Century many countries fended off world powers primarily with small arms and eventually drove them out. While an army can temporarily occupy territory with heavy weapons, it can't hold ground long in the face of an armed and willing opposition.”

Yes, I would mind. As Dr. Johnson said, "I have given you an argument. I am not obliged to give you an understanding."”
