Is Verizon Getting the iPhone?
Commented Jul 28, 2009 at 02:35:45 in Business
“Just left Verizon reluctantly (because of early termination fees (ETFs)) after 10 years to get an Iphone. AT&T coverage SUCKS in comparison, but the device is head and shoulders above any I have used before and the phone function is oddly 4th or 5th in terms of importance and use. If Verizon gets the iPhone, I might switch back, but these companies have a long history of raping consumers with ETFs with their contract arrangements which basically amounts to blackmail that is somehow legal.”

“Infidelity seems to be the only nonpartisan issue that the two main political parties seem capable of agreeing on. These men in power are on a mission to prove Chris Rock's adage that a man is only as faithful as his options. Should an individual's private life be private? Absolutely. But then again, we are talking about people who made the conscious decision to live a very public life. Nearly every one of them is an extreme narcissist not equipped with the self awareness to realize that they are not smarter than Sanford, Spitzer, Guilianni (well, maybe smarter than Rudy), McCain, Edwards, Clinton, etc. about getting away with cheating on their wives. Personally, I'm sick of hearing about how almost every politician can't keep it in his pants. Let Sanford take a beating in the press for it. Maybe if it's severe enough, it may penetrate the egos of others actively engaged in or thinking about cheating and make them think twice. Maybe it will spare the children of the next father of four of some psychological trauma.”

“I don't think anyone regardless of political affiliation wants this to unfold the way it did with Clinton. This is merely symptomatic of everything wrong with politics: publicly rail against an issue or a type of behavior, but practice this very type of behavior behind closed doors. No one wants to go after Sanford only because he had an affair, but I think it is fair to expect him to own up to the fact that he gleefully crucified another man for doing exactly the same thing. I just wish the media would focus less on the vice squad-types of issues and go after the real villains who use their elected office for personal financial gain serving special interests rather than their constituents.”

The Rise and Fall of Detroit

“As other posters have noted, GM manufactured cars in foreign markets as Vauxhall and Opel with considerable success. In fact, GM's foreign brands were the only things keeping the company profitable for a while. What is mind-blowing is why these cars that were successful in Europe and elsewhere--that boasted decent styling and excellent fuel economy--were never sold (with few exceptions) in the US.”
ASU Stiffs Obama, Claims Too Inexperienced For Honorary Degree

“This story makes me wonder if it is possible at the other end of the spectrum for Harvard and Yale to rescind the actual undergrad and grad degrees that were given to W. He deserved those degrees less than Mike Brown earned the right to run FEMA.”

“Absolutely!!! I am a two-time Yale graduate, and I sorely wish my alma mater would rescind Bush's "degree."”

“Hey, I'm the product of a state university too. I like the fact that it was not discriminatory in its admissions policy. The point I was making (admittedly at the expense of the lowest common denominator) was the irony of having a an open door policy for admissions but closing the door to an honorary degree to the former president of the Harvard Law Review, former constitutional law professor at the U. of Chicago, former U.S. senator and current U.S. president.”

“The obvious question that the article doesn't care to answer is who else spoke at an ASU commencement and did not receive an honorary degree? If Obama is the first--that's really outrageous. If not, I'd like to see the lot with whom he shares this dubious distinction. At any rate, an honorary degree from ASU would probably not be the crowning achievement in Obama's life--particularly given the 95% acceptance rate at this school. So basically, if you have a pulse, the school will grant you admission with open arms, but to be awarded an honorary degree, president of the US just doesn't cut it. Note to disgruntled ASU alums, I'm not saying that the school only accepts stupid people--it just doesn't close its doors to them.”

“The vast majority of "state" univerisities do not "close their doors" to "stupid people."
The acceptance rate at ASU and schools of that level are a consequence of expanding the academy to include students who have been historically excluded.
Let's not be elitist here.
I do agree, though, that they are acting the fools for not conferring the honorary degree, and would be interested in seeing a list of those who -have- been granted it.”

“Yes, you are absolutely right, in a month and a half, somehow Obama managed to undo all the great accomplishments achieved over 8 years by the GWB administration. Too bad there are term limits because GWB's economic recovery plan had a 8 year and 7 week time frame upon which the entire country would have realized unparalleled economic success. IF ONLY GWB'S TERM WAS EXTENDED FOR 7 MORE WEEKS HE COULD HAVE SAVED US ALL FROM BHO!!! BTW, you tip your hand with your insistence of referring to him as BHO. GWB is needed to distinguish him from GHWB. Unless you are in the habit of calling Clinton WJC, Reagan RWR and Carter JEC, you should drop the BHO and go for the more subtle B-His-middle-name-is-Hussein-as-in-Saddam-as-in-death-to-America-and-he's-a-secret-muslim-HOW-CAN-PEOPLE-VOTE-FOR-THIS-GUY-O.”

Kind of reminds of Hitler's repression of the Jews and South Africa's apartheid. Obama seems to have adopted the rightousness of Israel's massive invasion of the Gasa Strip.”

"But He's a Muslim!"

“The first part of your comment is indicative of the fundamental problem. Say you toss a person in a pool of excrement and they start shouting at you in anger invoking the wrath of whatever God they believe in because that's pretty much all they can do. Your comment (and the general attitude of our Government, media and citizenry) ignores the plight of the person and the cause thereof and focuses only on their reference to their faith.
Overlay a map showing the world's petroleum reserves with a map of terrorist "hot spots". Go back and read the U.S. government's issued propaganda against Native Americans justifying their slaughter and taking of their land and how we weep for them now but are oblivious to the present plight of palestinians. Desperate people will react in desperate circumstances. We put far too much trust in being told by our government and media who are the "good guys" and who are not. The African National Congress under apartheid South Africa was classified by the US as a terrorist organization before we finally came around (or more cynically, it became popular to support them). The facile observation that all suicide bombers are Muslim without further inquiry only adds to our collective ignorance.
For starters, we should think more about helping the people out of the excrement pit we (by proxy through our elected officials) pushed them into...”
