Whoopi Goldberg Almost Walks Off "The View" Over Tiger Woods Segment (VIDEO)
Commented Dec 04, 2009 at 08:49:16 in Media
“Although I agree with Whoppi's sentiment, it is a bit odd for her to take umbrage at the prospect of having to discuss the personal life of a celebrity. I'm sorry, but what else do they really talk about on that show on a daily basis? It's like O'Reillly threatening to walk off at the idea of having to present a topic that undermines the Obama administration. If people really wanted to stick to the issues and steer clear of celebrity gossip and tabloid culture they would avoid HuffPo and Drudge and read that other website--yeah, I've never heard of it either.”
Palestinians Accuse Clinton Of Hurting Peace Talks

“It is criminal how our media fails to report on the settlement issue. All they showed in recent memory was the evacuation of the Gaza settlements--tearful settlers being dragged away by the Israeli army. Within a few months the same army bombed Gaza senseless dumping white phosphorous on the civilian population. The evacuation was nothing more than getting "their own" out of harm's way. Any moral outcry from the talking heads in the press? None that I could hear. Any criticism of this action and you are labeled either a self-hating Jew or an antisemite. It is ironic that there is stronger opposition to the settlements within Israel itself while the U.S. turns a blind eye at best. Moreover, the reporting in the Haaretz is more balanced than the most liberal news outlets in the U.S. The distorted U.S. reporting would not be as concerning to me except for the fact that we are bankrolling the occupation with U.S. tax dollars.”

Keith Olbermann Delivers Hour-Long "Special Comment" On Health Care (VIDEO)

“As much as I enjoy the sports analogy, when we are talking about medicare vs. the private insurers, looking at the numbers is not enough. Medicare has had almost three times more at bats than all the other players in the league combined. Often times, when one of the private insurers denies a claim an attempt is made to have the claim covered under medicare. Sometimes the claim is covered and sometimes not. So sometimes when a private insurers strike out, the stat goes not only to them but also to medicare. Now let's look at another set of numbers. The top salary at Aetna takes in about $25 million and makes about 150 times as much as the pay received by the top administrator at CMS (agency that runs medicare). If only the guy at Aetna were to change his salary to what the CMS Administrator gets (poor bastard would have to scrape by with six figure salary), the difference would cover the premiums of 2500 families for a year. And that's just one guy. Considering this top-heavy pay structure and the fact that Aetna covers several fold less people than medicare, I am left wondering why this is even a debate.”
Rio de Janeiro Wins 2016 Olympics Vote

“"Most shocking"??? Hardly. Ever since Chicago made the final cut, it has long been known that it was running a distant 3rd or possibly 4th behind Rio and Madrid. As a resident of Chicago, I hoped against hope that the Olympics would come to my city. Aside from the logistical speed bumps, one must acknowledge that since the Olympics have been held in the past hundred years, the US has hosted more often than any other country (8 times for both summer and winter--3 more times than any other country). It was a long-shot. Anyway, other countries deserve the spotlight especially in light of the fact that until today's decision, two continents have been entirely ignored as prospective hosts. Now Africa stands alone as the continent with countries that have consistently been sending delegations but has yet to host the games.”

“Yes, Fox sucks, but this has nothing to do with their crappy "reporting." I'm glad he's off the streets and the WWW, but tying it to the network with this guilt by association is the very type of garbage that Fox itself pulls. Attack them for their lies and politicizing of news because this type of perversion is bipartisan.”

“I don't know if Baron Cohen's point is to confront homophobia in America. His MO is essentially shock followed by filming the reaction. I get the impression that pushing a social agenda comes a distant second. I don't doubt that he's deliberately operating at low brow and high brow levels, but the greater emphasis is definitely on the low brow. For example, the scene I will never forget from Borat--no matter how hard I try--was when he was wrestling with Azamat. I admit that I laughed to the point of nearly blacking out, but I don't recall that scene confronting any anti-semitic issues.”

“***SPOILER ALERT*** I'm surprised to say that I'm with Barbara on this. I saw it last night and did not find it nearly as funny as Borat. Borat was funny on two levels. First, things that he was saying and doing were very funny and second, people's reaction to his words and actions was hilarious. In this one, the things he was doing were not as funny, but the reactions--particularly his agent when watching his video in front of the test audience--very funny. But there simply were not as many payoff moments like that in Bruno and, like Barbara, I thought a lot of it was boring. I was disappointed with the UFC-type even at the end. I had heard about that scene, but it did not live up to the scenario that I had imagined. Having watched these types of matches, most of them involve two sweaty, half-naked guys rolling around on the ground clutching each other with one eventually mounting the other. Had there been two fighters that came out attaching each other rolling around half naked before starting to passionately make out--now that would have been funny.”

“Unfortunately those who would benefit most from this video (Fox News Viewers) don't know how to use the internets. Speaking of which, I have long since stopped watching TV news which basically ends up being a rehashing of the news I already read on the internet. I don't think I'm alone in this. Those who rely on being told what to believe by FOX are likely the cause of the "ratings boost" as opposed to those who have long since tuned out in favor of faster, more reliable sources, which I doubt the Nielsen's people take into account. A multi-variable poll would likely show that these people who represent FOX's ratings bonanza also own a disproportionate number of 8-track tapes.”

“Ok, "frustrated" might be overstating it, but this clip provides yet another stark contract to the previous administration wherein the press would be alerted well in advance to stage the perfect photo op, the patrons of the restaurant would be pre-screened for party affiliation and either allowed in or pushed from camera and microphone range, and despite the carefully orchestrated event, incomprehensible words would be uttered by the commander-in-chief.”

“For starters, by focusing on educating those who do not know/care what is happening. Don't get me wrong, I completely agree with the message, but Rumsfeld is unrepentant and knows exactly what he did. I cannot get the image of him expressing his outrage over the uncontrolled use of digital cameras when the Abu Ghraib torture photos surfaced while he expressed none for the torture itself. These women are protesting the Iraq war as a human rights travesty (as it should be regarded). Most Americans don't see it as such--they regard it primarily as the source of our economic woes and were the economy in good shape today it would barely register as a news item. If we were at all concerned about the deaths of Iraqis, we would not be there today.”

“On the contrary, I think most of the nation's anger is directed to our being duped into going to war and the continuation thereof. Code Pink's message is that Rumsfeld should be tried for war crimes leading to the death/murder of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. Most Americans don't give a sh*t about the Iraqis. If they did, we would not be where we are today.”
