“Excellent post! I sometimes get so riled about the state of things that I do criticize the President for not being forceful enough and seeming to bend to Corporate interests too much. but I am still a strong supporter and I am rooting for him to succeed in bringing prosperity back to the Middleclass. The whole atmosphere created by right wing radio, Foxx, Teabag Corporate Organizers, Lying Republicans...all of whom confuse and unfortunately influence so many people, who seem to lack good education...makes the President's job a very steep uphill struggle! I must not forget that
! I also, agree with you concerning the wars. If Right Wingers, War Mongers...Neo cons could put themselves into the situation of daily life that the countries we have invaded haveto live with, they would truely riseup with their guns inhand against such an invading army (no matter the guise of "protecting the population, stablizing the government, training our army todefend ourselves). If they could just imagine how they would feel if a foreign power had a military presence on our own soil. The onlyreason I would consider intervention...is Pakistan and their Nuclear arsenal...It IS paramount that Pakistan be stable and the Taliban and/or Al Qaeda have no chance of getting hold of any Nukes...You know they are crazy enough touse them!
The short of it is... I know that the President is working hard on our behalf and I support him even while disagreeing on somethings.”

“You are right of course, but I still want him to fight more forceablely, instead of taking what seems to be the "middle road". I want some arm twisting to get strong legislation to address the neglect of this country for the past 30 years of Republican Corporate rule. I want a Prosperous Middle Class vs the top 1-2% taking all the wealth of our nation. I want consumer protection to help that happen. To the Teabaggers, Conservatives, Republicans...the Civil War was won to preserve the UNION over STATE's Rights! You guys lost, but continue in your delusions of being separate from this country! States exist to divide up the responsibilities of governing at a local level...The States still have to function as a part of the Union and abide by the National Laws and accept responsibility for the maintenance and advancement of the country as a Whole!”

“Amen! The 'Wingnut" alternative would be a nightmare. I agree with Bill M. that the President needs to bring more strength and leadership to the fight. He can Not step back and allow the opposition to get strong toe holds in the arguements on the Major Issues facing this Nation! Obama needs a CONSTISTENT Strong effort on behalf of all the legislaton for his agenda...Energy, Environment, Health, Education, ending two Wars, REGULATION OF CORPORATE AMERICA, AND National Campaign funding...take the money for re-election out of the equation!!! And NO Lobbying jobs or sitting on boards of Corporations for Congressmen for 5 years after leaving office!
To President Obama: PLEASE QUIT TRYING TO APPEASE YOUR OPPONENTS!!! QUIT TRYING TO TAKE THE MIDDLE ROAD!!! You know what they say about "luke warm" efforts. PLEASE REALIZE that the Republicans operate in cut throat mode all the time with plenty of under the table money! You need to get tough with your OWN party if you want to succeed!!! Stop the Mister Nice guy and lets play basketball! IF YOU FIGHT STRONG, YOUR BASE WILL FIGHT STRONG WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!”

“Disagree. All sides of the arguement both pro and con need to be heard. Pakistan is of the utt most importance since the terrorists are encamped there AND they are not far from the capital and the Nuclear arsenal. A stable Pakistan is what we need. I do not know if more troops is the answer, but we must have good stategies before sending more of our young people to be killed or crippled. This article smacks of dislike for the vice-president. We CAN NOT be perpetually at War!!!”

“Agree. It is madness this constant call for more deregulation when it has totally destroyed millions of Americans' retirement, savings and any hope for financial security! The behavior of the banks and Wall Street Can Not be allowed to continue. The Mega Monopolies must be broken up...By being "too big to fail" Corporate America holds this country, the middleclass hostage! They should be barred from contributing to campaigns and Lobbying from these money interest should be only heard once in front of Congress. Corporations have had the ear of Congress way too long. How can the interest of the common citizen stand up against power like that?

Health 'Opt-Out': Brilliant Maneuver or Crippling Compromise?
Commented Oct 10, 2009 at 11:26:39 in Politics
“Right on target! NO TO OPT-OUT!!! It would not only cripple Health Care, not giving millions of people a choice or a lifeline, but would set a precedent for future Democratic initiatives and legislations where Republicans fight to have the states opt-out, thus weakening any benefit those policies would have fo this country as a whole. And BTW, people keep refering to this country as a Republic...that issue was settled in the Civil War. We are a UNION, one country! Because of the size of this country to run it efficiently, one hopes, some governance is mananged by the states. States should not be allowed to deny people their right to health care!!!!!”

“I think because there has not been a public push back by dominant Congressional and Political people in the Republican party, there is a segment of our population that is feeling freer to act out and develop their hate as in militia groups, kkk, teabaggers, etc. They are also egged on by the right wing radio and Fox news. No one on the Right is significantly denoucing their behavior. These people are like kids testing the boundaries...they wait and see if they are punished or slapped back for one swear word. When they are not and they feel they can get away with more, then they increasingly swear more. These groups are growing in number and size because no one THEY respect or listen to says enough, Not acceptable behavior!”

“Someone posted that this article should be sent to the White House. I say every member of Congress should read this. The republicans will not bother with it or decry it, but certainly will not recognize themselves as being this dangerous subculture...especially people like Michelle Bachman. We have been asleep at the wheel since all this started and allowed it to grow like a magninant disease right under our noses for the last 30+ years. They have infected all levels of society and government! Now, we must start by working to oust these people from positions of influence and block them from government. It may be alot more difficult than people realize and take many years, Being constantly vigilant and aware! Before people are put in manangement positions, hired as educators, elected to public office we need to be damn sure that they are not part of this subculture!”

“I was about to disagree with you and then I reread your post, especially the part about the "free form" movement where kids could select what they're interested in versus being required to take some really, really essential courses. You are right! If you have ever watched the Leno tonight show's segment "Jay Walking", where Jay questions people on the street...the basic knowledge is missing. It may seem humorus at first, but then I start feeling appaulled that these people can quote commercials and yet not know history or civics or just about anything and these are college students, teachers, professional people in the actual field that they are being questioned about.
I think this article needs to be widely read. I am really scared that the conservative right is so entrenched at all levels that have influence that they will end up destroying this country completely.”

“Excellent post. You have voiced my sentiments exactly! This was the first campaign I was excited enough about to become involved like in doing phone banks and showing up at events. Election night was heart burstingly wonderful and I thought Now we will be able to reinvest in this country and bring back the middlleclass and do wonderful things in energy innovation and the environment. I have become dismayed at Obama not only keeping some of the Bush policies but giving in too much to the minority party and Corporate America. He has misjudged the fact that the Republicans will do ANYTHING to take him down. (They were like white on rice with Clinton and actually tried to stop government all together!!!)
Too many concession, not enough fire for the causes he campaigned on. This is not the time to be Mr. Congeaniality. He needs to stop listening to Rahm Emmanuel...NO to a Triger for affordable health care, which is one of the greatest burdens for the average american! Is the President listening???? On the news I heard it said that he will do anything to just get a bill passed. Tell me this is not so. If he does that he will have really lost even if a bill gets through and he also might find his supporters absent from future fights for his agenda.”

“And just what makes you less free if we provide health care for all citizens???? It is popular with 77% of americans. Do you dislike the safety nets social security or medicare for the elderly and disabled? Do you enjoy the Insurances companies jacking up the cost every year and padding their pockets with your money so they can pay their CEO's millions while denying your medical claims? With the VA., Medicare, Social Security...do you feel less free? Do you like the middleclass getting squeezed into proverty while the top 2% get obcenely rich? I guess you approve of Wall Street being unrestricted so that they can fraudulently manipulate the market and loose the life savings of the average joe or retiree. You like that kind of freedom? We already have socialist programs...education, police, firemen, disaster relief, water purification, dams and levies, the military, consumer protection like in the FDA, etc. You think Democracy would vanish if we had healthcare for all citizens? NO!”

Commented Sep 04, 2009 at 13:43:32 in Politics
“Why??? You are willing to pay for war and a bloated military establishment and crooked contractors, why not a system to help your fellow countrymen. Why not have a system where people have affordable health care? No one should die because they can't get health insurance or go bankrupt due to exhorbitent medical bills. Health care should be a right not a priviledge in such a wealthy nation. And yes, taxes are required to maintain this country and to provide for the wellbeing of it's citizens. Other countries are far surpassing us in many areas besides healthcare. We could be the most advanced nation in the world, if we were willing to invest in it. When you have a car or house you pay to maintain or improve it, but you are saying this country and our standard of living should crumble and that is what will happen without reinvesting in it and thinking the status quo is good enough? As a collective society...a whole nation, what are you willing to support? The republicans want to live in their isolated islands of self-centeredness and greed without a thought beyond their own profit. I am sorry, but you republicans are pure poison to the advancement and well-being of this nation!”

The extreme right, the fundalmentalist have been trying to place people in top positions of education, military, law enforcement,...elected officials and national government for years. They want total influence and power in this country! There are videos out there at campaign gatherings, both of Palin and Michelle Bachmann, where they state that they want to get as many of their people in government as possible. That probablely would not sound as bad until one starts connecting the dots of all these incidents and also as we start learning more about the Bush administration and the so called "christian" activities in the military. The private and home schooling also becomes problematic. How do we counter this?”
