“It was on your bum's watch that the bajillion-dollar bailout occurred. Y'all can rewrite history all the live-long day, but nobody, I mean nobody, is gonna buy the notion that US history began on January 20, 2009.”

So, what's your point ?”

malvones replied on Dec 05, 2009 at 10:05:54

“You pretty much made it for me. They have "first hand experience," like Americans have "first hand experience" of poverty in Brazil by tacking tours of favelas.

Clueless.”

“The point is that Sean Penn and Oliver Stone are in lala land when it comes to the reality of Chavez. He is a repressive dictator and all this " man of the people " crap he spews is just that = crap. He is silencing free speech in Venez by shutting down all media that does not parrot his party line. Or haven't you been paying attention ? I live in Central America and tne entire region is HIGHLY concerned about his massing huge amounts of Russian military hardware ? To use againt who ? countries down here live in peace and have so many common threads - he is destabilizing the region.”

“Well, Phil, from where I sit here in the hardest hit county in Oregon, with unemployment at 22.5%, not including those neighbors of mine who have exhausted their benefits and are no longer even trying to find work, I find that your comment laughably ironic.

Remember that bajillion-dollar Banking and Financial Markets bailout last year, paid for with our tax dollars, and which was unarguably SOCIALISTIC in its very nature ??? Surely you remember that. In fact, we actually nationalized several lending institutions. Surely you're aware of that.

Now you want me to be upset with the president of a Latin American country because he's facing the prospect of nationalizing his own financial markets ?? Yeah, OK.

I just read that the unemployment rate in Venezuela has been hovering at around just under 8% this year.”

“Honduras will never be free of US control until it reaches a certain level of economic autonomy; a tipping point, if you will.

It can start by nationalizing its mining industry, instead of meekly accepting mere pennies on the dollar value from Canadian mining interests. Significantly, Zelaya was inching toward doing just that before corporate interests had him removed from office.”

“You see, that's just the problem. Hondurans haven't run their own affairs, ever.

Let me illustrate a hypothetical to support that assertion: Suppose the US pulled its military and diplomatic contingencies out of Honduras. And suppose the US imposed a trade embargo against Honduras. And suppose the US blocked wire-transfer of remittance funds from Hondurans abroad. And suppose the US State Dept. made it all but impossible for NGOs to operate in Honduras.

All of those restrictive devices have been implemented in one degree or another or in combination with one another by the US in Latin America.

Truthfully, Hondurans run their own affairs AT THE PLEASURE OF THE U.S.

Doesn't that bother you in the least ?”

cadacabezaunmundo replied on Dec 03, 2009 at 18:37:52

“So let's stop doing it right now. We can start with Honduras.”
