“Honduras will never be free of US control until it reaches a certain level of economic autonomy; a tipping point, if you will.

It can start by nationalizing its mining industry, instead of meekly accepting mere pennies on the dollar value from Canadian mining interests. Significantly, Zelaya was inching toward doing just that before corporate interests had him removed from office.”

“I don't think I've ever described the Coup d'Etat in Honduras as a "military coup". Please correct me if I'm wrong. Every comment I've ever made is in my Comment Archive. Feel free to browse.

I have said that the Honduran Coup d'Etat was initiated by the Honduran military in a most unlawful manner. But, we both digress here, don't we ?”

“The Zelayista mobs might fit the concept. We could call them "redshirts".”

“You see, that's just the problem. Hondurans haven't run their own affairs, ever.

Let me illustrate a hypothetical to support that assertion: Suppose the US pulled its military and diplomatic contingencies out of Honduras. And suppose the US imposed a trade embargo against Honduras. And suppose the US blocked wire-transfer of remittance funds from Hondurans abroad. And suppose the US State Dept. made it all but impossible for NGOs to operate in Honduras.

All of those restrictive devices have been implemented in one degree or another or in combination with one another by the US in Latin America.

Truthfully, Hondurans run their own affairs AT THE PLEASURE OF THE U.S.

Doesn't that bother you in the least ?”

cadacabezaunmundo replied on Dec 03, 2009 at 18:37:52

“So let's stop doing it right now. We can start with Honduras.”

“Do yourself a real favor. If you do some independent research, you'll find that the two leading parties in Honduras are right of center. No matter how you vote, the winner will be ........ (drum roll) .... right of center, unless, of course, one casts a throw-away vote for a minor party like say, a Nader.

Just like here in the USA.”

“" ... uses secret police and prisons to repress dissent, and can't survive economically without a foreign sponsor. "

" .... has been restricting the legal freedoms ... "

What you're describing here, chicagomike, is the Honduran Micheletti Coup Cartel, as well.

High literacy and the export, as you say, of physicians to developing countries worldwide can be interpreted in many ways, notwithstanding the altruistic issues. I think you hit upon the salient defects of the Cuban Revolution, but you lost me completely when you blithly, in my opinion, dismiss its successes. I really don't believe that the destitute mother of a sick child gives a tinker's dam about the politics of the trained, well educated Cuban physician treating that child. It's merely an example of diplomacy at its finest. We should all learn from that example.”

“No, Ira, that's not what I'm implying. What I don't believe in is the kind of disregard the Micheletti has shown in degard to constitutionally quaranteed civil liberties. I also don't believe, as you do, that the rape of Honduran Resistencia women is an acceptable form of political repression.

“The illegitimate Coup regime certainly got a big bang for its buck (or Limpera) by wisely hiring Lenny Davis to lobby Washington on its behalf.

As WC Fields may have said, " If Lenny were any closer to Hillary, he'd be behind her."

No big surprise here. The "Lawmakers" vote to quash reinstatement of the legitimate head of state was made with the full understanding that it had the blessing and full support of the US Dept. of State, and, by proxy, President Obama.

That's not the " Change We Can Believe In ". More like "Go Along To Get Along " vis- a- vis the Status Quo. I'm not sure where Obama will be placing the Coup in Honduras in his resume. It certainly shouldn't be placed under the " Accomplishments I'm Proud Of " column.”

“You know what I find almost as chilling as the rape of these Honduran women ? It's the casual way some people dismiss their helpless plight. Just like your comment. " Hey!!! Happens all the time. It's just one of those man things."

Take the case of Irma Villanueva, aged 25, mother of four children.

Pulled from a resistencia march, raped by four uniformed police officers and sodomized with a police baton to the cheers of all.

I ask you : If these police officers do not work for the golpe government, the who DO they work for ????”

“In my sixty-two years on this green earth I've listened to quite a few war speeches. They're all pretty much the same. They all pretty much cover the same points. Obama's war speech certainly was no different from speeches I've heard from Johnson, Nixon, Reagan, Poppa Bush, Or Baby Bush.

I've also come to the hard realization that war is an industry. Fifty-seven percent, cumulatively, of our 2010 federal budget is earmarked and dedicated to the war industry.

Given the shabby condition of every part and aspect of our domestic situation, I have a problem with that.
