“I don't think she won because she is gay; however, having said that it is wonderful that she had the opportunity to run and to succeed as an open gay person. That is indeed great news.”

“The President and the Democratic Party supported him over the winner of the Democratic Primary, who would have won the last election if they'd given their support. Lieberman has had the support of the President from the beginning - that's why a President who won't twist arms on behalf of health care reforms, did twist arms to keep Lieberman his committee chair.

Leadership could have taken away chairs. The party could have taken away election funds. The President could have used the oratory he used on behalf of Lieberman, Wall Street bonus contracts, Rick Warren and keeping Guantanamo open on behalf of real reform. "Progressive" senators could have filibustered. The Progressive Caucus could have voted against the House bill. Everyone except for Rep. Kunich and Sanders is in on it. Every Democrat, save one, is complicit.

Lieberman is just a scapegoat and distraction. It's misdirection. It's Sarah Palin and Tiger woods. Bread and circuses to pull our eyes away from what's happening on the floor, in the bill.”

And Reid appears to be using Lieberman to do his dirty work for him: letting Lieberman kill the public option etc. makes it easier to sell the rest of the bill to Nelson, Lincoln, Landrieu, while Reid's hands appear to remain clean. I have yet to find one social program ever passed by the Republican party. They have fought tooth and nail at any mention of programs for the working class in this country.

“Me too. Actually, when his season ended a few weeks ago, I discontinued HBO. When he returns in Feb, I'll re-subscribe. I had HBO for quite a while, but there wasn't much variety anymore. Most of what they air are their original programs (which I'm not really into), and what few movies they show, they repeat over and over. So, I'll save my $15/mo for now.”
