More Mayhem and Death At Wal-Mart

Commented Dec 08, 2008 at 15:10:42 in Business

“Well I agree with those who say WalMart is not fair to employees, but Target is no better. Low pay, definitely.

I worked at Target as a night-time stocker. If things were slow, they would SEND PEOPLE HOME, after coming in to work at midnight, they would send us home. After re-arranging our days to work the night shift, we would be stuck at home, wide awake, knowing the next day is shot for nothing, no $8.00 an hour.

My co-worker (age 58) lost her medical insurance with Target because she was FOUR HOURS SHORT of the required hours to get the insurance. How fair is that?

I was so glad to get out of that place, but I feel bad for the others, at both Target and WalMart.”

jdw1981 replied on Dec 08, 2008 at 16:33:32

“Target isn't known for killing its customers or employess. Or acid bombs going off in its aisles, as in the incident in a Wal-Mart in Skowhegan, Maine from a few years ago. Or as a hotspot for sexual assaults (Google "Wal-Mart" and "sexual assault" if you want to find out some shocking things that Wal-Mart would rather not have you know).”

deminmo replied on Dec 08, 2008 at 15:55:03

“Target offered me a dollar less to work there than where I
do work, and have the midnight shift. Now I work 9.5 hrs
and maybe I should have taken the Target one.”

“That says it all! If the middle class (and lower) is suffering and doing without the necessities, we certainly can't afford to buy the things that keep the "small businesses" IN business. Who can afford to buy the "luxury" items that many small businesses survive by selling, if we can't afford the necessities?

Wake up! When the middle class suffers, everyone loses.

And What is wrong with a reasonable and affordable health care system that does not SHUT ANYONE OUT?”

Timekeeper10 replied on Oct 17, 2008 at 22:37:33

“If you can't afford the neccesities, are you in the middle class? And, is a 52 inch flatscreen a neccesity? Nothing is wrong with a health system that does not cut anyone out. the question for me is, who pays for it and most importantly, how do you keep the quality up and insure that participants can excercise choice. Managed care is already a disaster for those of us who are already dealing with it. In my state, thousands go without treatment because the govenment uses a company called Value Options to manage the resources. There is no way big daddy governement can manage the healthcare of a nation. It is a recipe for disaster. and now that I think about it, is there anything that govenment does well?”

Quitcherbichin replied on Oct 17, 2008 at 17:46:23

“What is wrong with it is that it for it to be reasonable it will be unaffordable. Socialized medicine is definitely not the answer. Don't believe that? Ask the Canadians and Norwegians.”

“Trickle up poverty”

trambusto replied on Oct 17, 2008 at 16:21:24

“Another aspect to consider is that, the middle class -- and in particular in hard times -- don't go to the small business owner to buy their goods, because the small business has to charge more for the product or service than the high-volume, big-box competitor.

Thus, to scrimp and save those nickles and dimes, the middle class -- for whom Bush's tax cuts have done very little -- end up shopping and buying their services at places like Costco and Wal-Mart, not from Joe the Plumber.

More money to spend in the middle-income bracket means more proffits for the wealthy (and the small business owners). And if they have to pay more taxes on that success, well -- JOIN THE CLUB!”

Skippi replied on Oct 17, 2008 at 15:56:51

“I agrees wit you darlin, I ams low class and they better not trys to shut me outta my helth care, just cauz I don't pay my bills they is suppost to pass it on to the rich mans "the old white Bush lovin ones"
shur seemz reasonable to me WAKE UP”

bluerabbit47 replied on Oct 17, 2008 at 15:53:16

“That's a good point! My husband and I wont be buying much of anything from local small businesses for Christmas this year. What they sell, nobody really needs. Those are luxuries. We may have repairmen come more often rather than replacing appliances, so repair services, which are small businesses might do better than retailers.”
