Maureen Dowd: Bill Clinton Lobbied Gov. Paterson To Keep Caroline Kennedy Out Of Senate

“Oh please. This woman had zero career and never worked a day in her life. She took care of Mom's charity work by attending a few honorary dinners each year and had her name on a few symphony boards. She was clearly out of her league and never even deserved a first look. It was ridiculous in the first place.”

“It was clear to most folks that Caroline was as dumb as mud. She opened her mouth and all the stupid just flowed out. I am sure that it took very little for anybody to see this if they were being honest about her prospects. She was not qualified in the least and proved it.”

“I would say that if any stupidity is flowing, it is coming from your keyboard. Caroline may have been inarticulate on the campaign trail due to a lack of experience, but she is neither stupid or unqualified. You could only wish to accomplish in a 100 years what she has done with her life already.”

“We must allow business to prosper by cutting taxes. Let's start with the smaller zones of industry--the mom and pop areas of business and shore these up with tax incentives and tax cuts. We need to create jobs and job stability in the vast areas of this country where we have no industry. For government, we need to engage in a discussion about having a tiered system of funding. Perhaps a three-tiered system of funding high=priority services, such as fire safety, security safety, military, energy, water, medical, agricultural, and education. We fund these as top-tier priorities. The second tier would be less critical need focus areas and then the third tier would be for the less critical need areas of focus. When the economy is flush with money, all three tiers are funded, when it is not flush with money, we fund the top first, then the second and lastly the third. I am tired of all the spreading around of money to unimportant and frivolous things. We need a new plan that looks at the funding in a critical way, by need, and we go from there. If state governments did this too, we'd probably find that we are in better shape with a more realistic method for moving this economy forward.”

“Can we stop with the "cutting taxes makes jobs" nonsense already?
We've just had eight years of it with Bush and it's brought this country to the edge of the economic abyss. We had the same with Reagan and Bush I, and in all three cases the deficits have SOARED. It is is economically and morally irresponsible to cut taxes to the wealthy. Small businesses are like all other businesses: when it's economically unstable, they don't hire anyone.”

The tax revenue the government relies on, has been drastically reduced -

b ) because the government is spending so much extra - in benefits - to assist those who have lost their jobs.”

“Uh--logic says that if they are "facts" as I have said, then they are "facts". Right? So if they are facts, they are truth. If they are not facts then they are false. I say that the factual content of his shows cannot be disputed because they ARE facts. If there is other content that is non-factual then you are correct. That content is crap. But if you were the least bit objective and did not have your deluded head up your own orifice, you would get what I am saying. Obama has to be careful to clean his house of his radical team members or they will continue to drag him down into the mud on shows like Becks. Because the facts are the facts dimwit.”

“I find it interesting how Huff Post expends so much column time for stuff about Glen Beck and company. I have to believe that Glen Beck is somewhat of a bonefide political threat. Probably because he does alot of research. There is no issue with the facts that he presents and so it is with great regret that I say he has a point or two and it threatens the Obama political machinery enough to warrant a full frontal assault on Beck's program as well as his network. He resonates with conservatives, moderates, and independents, both democrat and republican, as well as middle road moderate independents, libertarians because he does not fabricate the content of his shows, which consist of videotaped archived content that has not been altered Why else have so many of the victims of his factual expose's been left to resign? They made their own beds and Obama could not keep them around when they were exposed via tape. Could not alter the facts of their own speeches when they were seen speaking them. Wake up and do your homework folks.”

Anita Dunne accepted the position in March 2009 after the original appointee left and did so on the understanding that it would be an interim appointment that would last no longer than the end of this year. In fact, she requested that it be no more than 6-months when she took it on.
To my knowledge Graig has not been "targeted" by Beck and the change has been rumored for ages and was actually discussed by various White House correspondents, including Major Garrett back in the Summer. Of the Fox News people, Major Garrett was the first to break the story of his leaving back in October.”

“It is time for us to really look at sexual abuse of women and children and also how we, as a society do very little to control the predators once they have been identified, convicted, and sent out again on parole. We allow them to roam the cities freely, knowing that they look for opportunity to hurt women and children. They are predators and once a predator of women and children then always a predator of women and children. We need to take a systematic approach to the incarceration of these predators. They need to be segregated from others in prison, maybe special prisons are in order and they must be held for much longer than we do currently. If we also look at our current media and entertainment, about 70% of the drama is now focused on the murder and CSI-related activies around women and children, often with a sexual content. The Showtime TV show Dexter has some of the most pornographically, sexually deviant rape and killings that we can film and it is a hit show. Please let us realize that this type of programming does nothing but break down and desensitize the human emotions around crime. We need to look at this and how we degrade women and children and start to heal this madness. Elizabeth Smart is a blessing for us all to look at as a survivor. She is a hero. May she know that we admire and pray for her everyday.”

“Rape and child molestation is sadly very common. It happens to one in four underage girls. Most of the predators don't look as freaky as this guy. Many are respected teachers and doctors. Even though women go to college and grad school at a higher rate then men, take care of children much more than men do, many men still don't view women as people, only as "things". Rape is often treated as a joke by many police officers. And many families don't take it seriously either.

As a 12 year veteran of one of these corporations, I can see that the overall operational mode is to haul a__ to India as quickly as possible, to find reasons to cut anyone over 50, and to generally dismantle the US operations so that there are no additional job hires. Is it any wonder that the companies want to buy some time before the Obama administration finally gets its act together to fight the offshoring of the American job? I think anybody who thinks this is a cooperative move by big business has to be very naive. After all, in the big corporation, iit is always about "give to get." No more, no less.”

“I am a 28 year veteran of one of these companies. When I need something fixed in one of our systems, I have to email India. We are supposed to be a technology advanced company, but all of our support seems to be outside the US. Our CEO made $14 Million last year. Lower management got no raises or bonuses and our negotiated wage increase for non-mgmt will be 3%, with us picking up more of our medical. Our raise will actually work out to about 1% after the medical costs are figures in.”

“Don't be naive. Do you really think that the journalism majors get ahead these days without connections? Also, why do we think she is unqualified? She is as good as any of the so-called journalists who are just Obama shills these days anyway. The new journalism is simply blogging personified. That is about it.”

Kennedy's Gay Rights Advocacy Remembered

“Kennedy was a leader of sorts, but really he, like so many others called for separate but equal status for gays this country. He, like all the others in the Senate never pushed for gay rights, they just sort of stood there when they had to do something. Separate but equal, on a state-by-state level being the norm. Obama has no courage when it comes to social justice. He talks a big game, but he is weak and also manipulative, which is a very dangerous thing. He has shown zero leadership when it comes to gay rights. A sad day for all of us when we realized that he was to be all talk and no action. Should have voted for Hillary because she has more guts.”

Income Inequality Is At An All-Time High: STUDY

“Always interesting to be in the top percentile or one of the top and to hear how great it is for us. Well, we made 124k last year. After basic taxes on my home (small--1800 sf), paying for food and all the other items needed for my family of 5, making the car payment (min-van 3 years old), taking care of my mother's care, paying for health care though my job for my family, etc. I have absolutely nothing left each month. Nothing. We commute for hours work overtime, live on Costo and WalMart, work 60 hour weeks in fear of losing our jobs to India. We get nothing from the government--- killing ourselves to keep our daily relentless, aimless, pressure-inducing, soul-killing Silicon Valley jobs because of a crappy mortgage that we can barely afford. We can't find a way out to go anywhere else. Let me work in a small town--to send my kids to a normal school and maybe see them once in awhile. I represent a HUGE number of the poor smucks that are being taxed to death to pay for the 60% of the poor people who don't work, can't work, don't want to work, are getting the $200 per child award on their welfare cards to buy stuff, the food products, the subsidies, the whatever....I am burnt out. Many of us are. We are in a hell hole. There has to be a middle...somewhere. Meet us halfway.”

“You make a decent salary, but when you factor in inflation, rising costs, and taxes, yes, it's not that much. The thing is, what you make should be about average in this country, it is really very little, ratio-wise. And because everything is moving faster, we still hold on to what we think the values are. In other words, when you were young and your grandmother gave you $25 dollars, that seemed like a lot. Today that won't fill up your gas tank or buy a meal at McDonald's!
And $500 is nothing - it's a trip to get the car fixed, part of a dental crown made or one Costco haul.
You have a house, cars, 5 children. That's a lot to manage, but those are all choices you made. No one said you are entitled to a house, a car or even one child. Those expenses add up, but also seem high because of what we expect as normal: cable tv, vacations, spa treatments, daily lattes (over a grand a year, just for those by the way), etc.”

“I make about the same income wise and I can tell you, there is no possibility of ever living like that. You sound like you live beyond your means, or in an area with an extremely high cost of living. The problem is you stay there for work, when chances are a similar job could probably be had elsewhere.
Six figure income can easily sustain a five member family. I actually recently moved and took a small pay cut, but since the cost of living is much cheaper it was if I took a higher paying job.
I would take a long hard look at your finances to see where your budget could cut some corners. It really sounds like you need to get out of that mortgage.”

“Amen to what you're saying! I'm you're fellow poor schmucks. I work with the poor daily and the system by design or inadvertently has perpetuated poverty as a way of life for too many! But you seem to be leaving the "Big Boys" out of the tirade! Look at the sweetheart deals they get rich off mof because they have the resources to plumb the system! And when they screw it up they wine to and line up for corporate welfare!
Obama's point as I understood it is that the middle class are the ones who have been screwed!”

“Move the h*ll out of Silicon Valley if you're miserable. People here in NC live on half that and have twice as much, but we also have double digit unemployment, just like CA. Don't be so hard on those who have little, and you might realize just how lucky you are to have an income at all.”

“the poor are not your problem. you're right smack in the middle of the ever dwindling middle class. the ones who have really taken it up the behind for this whole misadventure.
most of the poor people you see wandering the streets these days need social services that the government decided were frivolities. like mental health care, half way houses, skills training, ways to get on their feet even a little. they are not your problem though.
the people who put them there are the same people who put you where you are.”
