Obama On Filibuster Reform: White House Embraces Harry Reid's Rule Changes

Obama On Filibuster Reform: White House Embraces Harry Reid's Rule Changes

Commented Nov 28, 2012 at 14:48:43 in Politics

“J. Reynolds: You use the word "Socialists" as a pejorative term without consideration of what the word actually means. Here is Iyn Rand's definition of Socialism.
1. extensive nationalization
2. dominate public sector
3. Strong corporate movement (Corporate control of government)
4. egalitarian income distribution
5. a total welfare state
6. central government planning

Stop trying to influence people who do not know what the word means any better than you do. You use the word loosely and incorrectly. If you want to swear at the other side, find a word or phrase that actually applies.”

“If you are interested in good government, you cannot kick-the-can down the road on this subject again. Senator Reid, give the Democrats and President Obama a chance to keep this country from living under an oligarchic plutocracy with a Fascist form of government. They have the money and the intention and the motivation to do just that.

What Mr. Reid must do if the Senate's objectives are to pass legislation and function as a governing body is protect the country from the TYRANNY OF THE MINORITY. A tyranny we have experienced for the past four years. McConnell and the Republican Senators showed no restraint after they decided to obstruct rather than oppose and participate in the process of governing. A purely political decision that made our government dysfunctional for four years. They intentionally brought the government to a standstill and prevented our nation from making any progress. The power of the Party was (is) more important to them than the welfare of our country.

Mr. Reid must do whatever is necessary to stop the political posturing of the Republicans and repair the procedural damage they have inflicted on the Senate as an institution of government. We know the Republicans will not voluntarily change their political strategy or behavior. Change the Rules of the Senate, Mr. Reid.”

“I stopped watching CNBC's business shows when all of the broadcasters spent more time on politics than on financial or economic subjects. Most of the performers for CNBC have been infected with what I call the "Kernen, Kudlow, Santilli virus", i.e., the supply side is the only side with a ferocious, incessaant campaign to implement without modification Iyn Rand's laissez faire, anything goes, no regulation (hands off) capitalism as the financial/economic system endorsed by the United States government. I am pleased there are other financial/economic channels to watch and learn from.”

“We will have a illegal drug problem in the US until we face the issue for what it is and not what we pretend it to be. This "war" will go on until we take the profit from selling illegal drugs. I cannot understand why the American public or whoever it is that insists that we adhere to and follow the ridiculous programs and phony standards that have produced disastrous results at a huge economic and financial cost. It appears we are gleefully and sadistically punishing ourselves.

We know and have know for many years how to solve the problem. It was done in the early 1930s with the repeal of prohibition. After the profit was taken away with the repeal, the gangsters engaged in the commerce of selling booze disappeared. We have empirical proof, the paradigm, the template, the model to shut down the illegal drug trade. It is a matter of wanting to make the suffering go away; not a lack of knowledge. Who are the perpetrators and enablers of the drug trade? It isn't the growers/providers or the transporters or the sellers. They are merely incremental parts of the machine.”

Mitt Romney After Bain Capital: Leaked Documents Connect Candidate To Adelson, Casinos, Cigarettes

Commented Aug 24, 2012 at 14:11:42 in Business

“Even to the fair-minded, Romney's extreme intransigence to releasing his tax returns is prima facia evidence that he is hiding something he does not want the American public to know. What could the secret(s) be? Could it be more than a low rate of federal income taxes paid? Or, even, no income taxes paid on some or a substantial portion of his earned and passive income?

If this is true and known, surely, some of these reasons would be enough to cause some people to refuse to vote for him. But, his resolve is so strong in the face of such tremendous pressure to release his tax returns, It leads on to wonder if he is hiding something more serious and damaging - like a felony>”

“CNN didn't learn an important lesson from the Lou Dobbs episode. Dobbs' pretended to be someone he wasn't. CNN needs to stop pretending their actors labled anchors are objective journalists. If it is a news show make sure it sticks to news. If it is a opinion/commentary show, be honest with us and tell us so. As an example Erin Burnett is what Romney called a serious conservative. And yet she pretends to be something else. She is infected with the CNBC Kernen, Kudlow, Santelli virus - Iyn Rand's laissez faire, anthing goes capitalism. With that ideology and political philosophy it is hard for her to give moderate Republicans a fair shake. The liberal side doesn't stand a chance. Send her back to CNBC or over to Fox News. She and the audience will be more comfortable when that happens.”

“Sadly it doesn't matter. He is comfortable lying to the American people, to their face, while he picks their pocket, and could care less if he is seen doing so on National TV.

I don't completely blame him, this is normal business behavior, in many countries. That's why we must not elect a businessman.”

“If a religious institution voluntarily chooses to become an insurance company and provide health care services for people associated with the institution, the argument we don't have to follow the rules and regulations and the law governing the conduct of insurance companies because of who we are and what we do is not a logical or reasonable position to defend.

Of course the church has had to 'defend the indefensible' on many different issues and is getting rather good at it. They even keep their tax exemption although functioning as a economic business organization.”
