Strong Clerical Support for a Woman's Right to Choose Does Exist

How is lying or manipulation even related to the pro-life or pro-choice movements?”

Why Are Some Black Folks So Upset Over Gays Getting Married?
Commented Dec 01, 2009 at 18:35:30 in Politics
“The references that those against gay marriage and homosexuals often like to use is from Leviticus, part of the Old Testament, the Hebrew bible. Why do you choose to embrace a handful of passages from the text but not all the passages from that text? Why do you pick and choose which passages to believe in and which one s to simply ignore? You do that every time you quote Leviticus in defense of your bigotry. Where in the new Testament, the teachings of Jesus, his words, do you find a condemnation of homosexuality? Where in the bible does Jesus condemn homosexuals?”
FACINGREALIT replied on Dec 01, 2009 at 18:52:47
“If Jesus didn’t mention something, it must be okay?” Jesus was silent on other topics such as rape, spousal abuse, genocide, kidnapping, torture, gambling, prostitution and many other societal issues as well but does that make them right?”
John McCain Could Lose Senate Primary To Tea Party Supporter

“Sad. Sen. McCain was an honorable man at one time, then he sowed the seeds of his own downfall with the petty choice of an unqualified, political neophyte. That was a costly move John, you took yourself and the Republican party down in one swing.”

“You haven't really watched his career, have you? I didn't either, and was an early McCain supporter in 2000. Then I started paying attention and saw that maverick stuff was bs. He's a fooler. Those AZ Rs are reactionaries, they don't do maverick. To get elected from there you need to be on the crazy fringe. For a working person to vote for John is foolish. When you're in AZ drive by the McCain Scottsdale digs and see how the tiny, thin upper crust live there, then try to imagine those people relating to someone who works.”

“And somehow Nixon making a similar prediction on the outcome of Manson was just wishful thinking? Or perhaps, like Obama, he was filled in with the particulars of the case and was assured that, like Manson, there was sufficient evidence to convict.
Unless the entire Bush administration was utter boobs, there is little chance that they "self confessed" master mind of 911 will somehow go free. I will make the same prediction, KSM will be convicted and he will be executed and we will all rejoice at his death.”

“"Marriage between of a man and a woman has been the teachings of Judeo-Christian scriptures and the core legal definition and practice of marriage in Western culture for thousands of years."
Sorry that statement is simply false. "Traditional Marriage" as you would define between one man and one woman is a relatively new phenomena. If you'd bother to do some research rather than just posting your opinion you might understand this.”

if we do historical research on western thought, can we not trace the idea of a traditional marriage between a man and a woman to the work of Aristotle (the Aristotelian household codes that A. thought were fundamental to a democratic society which subsequently become one of the core(s) of western thought).”

“Unfortunately that's no longer how a filibuster actually works. No one has to actually stand up and hold the floor anymore, they just have to say that they are going to do it and its a filibuster. They changed the rules so they didn't have to actually have to go through the work of a real filibuster.”

“1) The Democrats that control the Senate can insist the Republicans come to floor and sleep in the chamber as well.
2) In the case of healthcare reform if Joe Lieberman does not vote with the Democrats he will loose him chairmanship and an additional $60K a year in pay and will be forced to downsize his staff as well. He will not vote with the party of NO.
3) An overwhelming majority of the public is for healthcare reform; therefore all those Democrats and even the Party of NO that vote against reform will suffer in 2010, which doesn't look good for the Republicans now.”

"As a means to help prevent the abuse of the procedural filibuster, the majority leader retains the authority to force the minority to prove that they actually have the necessary votes to prevent cloture and to perform a real filibuster ."
In other words, if the majority leader forces them to prove they have the votes for a filibuster, they have to go through with the filibuster and all it entails. Since the current Senate Majority Leader is Harry Reid, you bet he'd force them. Also, 41 votes are needed to prevent cloture/call for a filibuster, and there are only 40 Republicans in the Senate. I really doubt if any Democrats would join with the Republicans to call for a filibuster, and Bernie Sanders won't, and though Lieberman likes to be Mr. Unpredictable on many issues, he votes with the Democrats on over 90% of issues, and would be unlikely to side with the Republicans on this one.”

“I agree with Arianna's assessment of the situation but I think Biden resignation would be a single shot across the bow ad if that didn't do the trick his one shot is over. I think Biden can do more to keep us from getting bogged down in Afghanistan by being on the inside and directing policy towards a "get out of there already" strategy.
Supposedly our "war" in Afghanistan is against Al Quida, not necessarily against the Taliban. We originally went into Afghanistan and took out the Taliban because they were harboring Al Quida and Bin Laden. Since they are no longer harboring Bin Laden and Al Quida there is no real reason for us to be there fighting Afghani members of the Taliban.”
