“Of course insurance companies aren't manufacturers. The whole point of my comment is that what the article at the top of the page singles out as the big-deal "cancer" is actually a feature even of companies that are very different from insurers.

Insurance companies do provide a valuable service. They should be able to cover their costs in so doing, including a normal return to shareholders. But they should make so-called "zero economic profit", which is economist jargon for not being able to make obscene profits by scre.wing the public.”

all i have to do is not own a car. totally different situation.
if the federal government mandated that i MUST purchase a car, that would be unconstitutional, in my opinion, and i would join a class action suit against it.
if i CHOOSE to own a car, the government (of the states currently) can mandate that I insure it.”

“The difference is that driving a car is a privilege not a right, and constitutional privileges are not protected the way rights are (14th Amendment I believe) that is why they can tax so many things related to cars like gasoline, roadways and Driver's Licenses, Tag and registration taxes etc.., life however (welfare) IS a constitutional right, and this almost amounts to 'pay to live'. It also possibly falls under the apportionment clause whereas this would be considered a direct tax and not an excise (indirect) tax like the taxes surrounding the privilege of driving an automobile. Taxes to stay alive, I dunno- I think there may be something to be said of this..”

How would an African American man serving as President of the United States openly associate himself with black America? By not using the NAACP 100th anniversary to disparage an entire race. By not finding ways to skip out on major events in black America while finding time to make appearances on Conan O'Brien or Jay Leno.

By taking trips to major urban areas of this country and walking the streets to shake hands with and hear from ordinary African Americans as opposed to cherry picking places like Elkhart IN or MN to make staged, scripted political pep rally appearances before predominately white audiences.

As African Americans we know when we're being had and when someone is a sell out. President Barack Obama never had an African American membership card. He burned it to a crisp in favor of personal political ambition. And a lot of ordinary African Americans like me who voted for Hillary knew this from the start.”
