“Oh, I get it. We're gods of the earth and therefore decide what constitutes an acceptable strain of DNA. Who's imposing on whose preferences? I don't have a pet and I refuse to buy into the notion that pets need to exist at all, except in the case of rescuing a "lesser form of life" from the hellish nightmare that humans created.”

“"Reputable breeder" is

1. An oxymoron
2. A pseudonym for Tiger Woods”

BLSabob replied on Dec 02, 2009 at 17:34:36

“Wrong, there are a lot of great dogs out there, because good breeders have done the work of weeding out genetic defects, and accentuated both physical and personality attributes. If you prefer mutts, that is your perogotive and you're welcome to it. But don't impose your tastes on others, some of whom prefer a small toy, like a pug or maltese while others prefer a great dane or mastiff. Personally, I think the world would be a less intersting place if all dog breeds went away, being replace by a generic mush of sameness.”

“It sounds like you are aggressively agreeing with me. So I'll disagree with you instead.

Kids today definitely have time to learn something. Do they learn electrical contracting skills in college? Not in accredited ones. Who teaches them? Their fathers. Union members.

I realize that immigrant labor is taking that away too, so it's not just that jobs are disappearing. But that's the fault of the lowest bidder and our government that is really not interested in helping Americans. That applies to both parties. And it also applies to folks who shop at Walmart and Costco.

So there.”

""The United States is proposing a broad new economic framework that it hopes the G-20 will adopt, according to a letter by a top White House adviser.

Obama said the U.S. economy was recovering, even if unemployment remained high, and now was the time to rebalance the global economy after decades of U.S. over-consumption.

"We can't go back to the era where the Chinese or the Germans or other countries just are selling everything to us, we're taking out a bunch of credit card debt or home equity loans, but we're not selling anything to them," Obama said in an interview with CNN.""

and

""With U.S. consumers now holding back on spending after house prices plunged and as unemployment climbs, Washington wants other countries to become engines of growth.""

What if the President no longer cares about US citizens? (More, what if other countries don't do what Washington, oops I mean corporate-America, asks?
)”

“Apprenticeship, ha! No one's got any time anymore for apprenticeship, no company has any money left over to upgrade its staff. Those days are long gone and over. Today in the 'I don't go out anymore' society, the only community left is a link to google's front page and with maybe one click you might find a job, like that lottery ticket you just bought, maybe you can win a million too.”

BronxBorn replied on Nov 09, 2009 at 12:22:37

“College, when I was growing up, was never an option. It was never talked about.
I knew from thirteen that I was out of the house when I hit nineteen.
(There was a one year grace period from eighteen.)

I worked a lot of dirty jobs, but I finally got an Apprenticeship with a Union.
That was more dirty jobs and night school for five years.

I'll never understand why Republicans hold someone like me, who worked hard, and made something of himself, in such matter of fact contempt.”
