Obama's Invisible Victories

Commented Nov 05, 2009 at 11:10:46 in Politics

“"Settling back" after 1 year as you suggest, it won't be long before another year goes by, a Republican majority takes the house and Senate, and we're back to the Clinton presidency for the next 6 years.”

“CNBC's woman is Meg Whitman who is doing less than nothing for the people of California by pledging her undying love for tax breaks for the rich. The CNBC liars clearly don't like it when liberal politicians create positive outcomes for the majority.”

And that's partly because, even though I'm the smallest potato in the GOP bin, I'm still part of the problem, because I could have done more to stop things from getting this bad.”

“The problem is that there is always something and someone that could be better. That's our social Dis-Ease. It's the result of advertising that we are exposed practically when we emerge from the womb. There's an antidote - Giving. Men who don't understand that sex is the entire experience are missing out, and their partners are missing everything.”

“So true, and yet that fiery neurochemistry that drives us to engage in fertilization behavior is so loud and persuasive at a neurochemical level that no one can be blamed for falling for it! In my experience, it's hard to see the benefits of moderation until you've done something to balance your brain chemistry...such as meditation, karezza http://www.huffingtonpost.com/marnia-robinson/another-way-to-make-love_b_272759.htmll), healthier diet, tai chi, regular prayer, qi gong, whatever. Until then, those loud "Yes!" signals seem like the obvious choice. However, when I wrote my book, I was amazed to see that the evidence about the benefits of orgasm itself is surprisingly thin, while the evidence about the need for regular affectionate connection with others is mounting daily. Hmm....”

“Orgasm is clearly more of a big deal for women than men, so if you are able to forgo it, that says quite a lot. Sometimes it is our not having that makes all the difference. Most of us live on a day to day basis with a feeling that things could be better when they are already as good as they're going to get, and it's very difficult to get past.

The answer - sometimes - most of the time - is to give it up.”

“I would generally say that while women raised in the US might understand this profound statement literally, but they don't truly understand it.

"This arrangement serves our genes' objectives of more offspring with more diversity among them"

Here's another way to say it. In happier times past (before Puritanism or marriage or whatever it is that everyone in the US is compelled to follow - at least those who feel obligated to obey the media)...

Fathers were close, but they weren't chained.”

hp blogger Marnia Robinson replied on Sep 01, 2009 at 16:17:33

“Exactly, our brains evolved in tribes, where this evolutionary program furthered diversity without taking caregivers from our offspring (in the way that divorce often does today).
That said, many of us are now without tribes and deprived of all that healthy, friendly socializing with trusted companions. It would certainly be convenient if we could manage our love lives to improve our chances of sustaining a harmonious pair-bond...should that be a desire. In my case, I was tired of the merry-go-round. Others are simply more suited to monogamy. Others want to raise a kid together. It's nice to be aware of our options, since most of us don't naturally seem to be "swans."”

Why I Am A Conservative On Health Care Reform

“Dr. Weil,

You are not a conservative. You are a liberal.

The demonization of the word "liberal" is a trick - a lie - crafted by the speech writers of Lord God Ronnie - may he rest in peace Amen.

"Conservative" is nothing more than the promotion of profit against the interests of the greater good. In other words, Big Pharma. But let's not forget Kaiser Permanently, the all-knowing deniers of care you probably need but aren't going to get.

You seem to be a smart man. First rethink your choice of words. Then you might have something of value to add to the conversation. We need more liberals like you on the right side of the fight, which is the side where the billionaires aren't.

Sincerely,

Terris”

“For heaven's sake, in his article here Dr. Weil is using words of the English language with their proper and common definitions.

I went to a conference of his near Boston in 1997, and I witnessed how Dr. Weil IS deeply conservative, choosing his words carefully, advising moderation and balance, valuing scientific research and dispassionate reviews of real-world cases. If part of what he espouses happens to *sound* wild and mind-expanding to some people, maybe that's a clue as to how upside-down our society and our medicine has become in the last 100 years.”
