Adam Lambert To Sing On "The View"
Commented Dec 06, 2009 at 13:41:52 in Entertainment
“Since this booking was last minute, one could assume that his appearance would've been scheduled when he was on that coast. A recorded interview and performance for the live shows is extremely rare for The View. Those are the facts.”

“Your correction about the taping schedule was so noted, my bad.
However, a regular taping once a week (as you pointed out yourself) is your definition of "extremely rare"? And it's possible that for some reason they couldn't schedule it while he was on that coast. How do you know what the schedule conflict might be? Other than knowing the show taping schedule for The View, what makes you an expert on it?”

“The View is aired live from Monday to Thursday. After the live Wednesday broadcast, they tape the Friday show. A taped interview and performance for Thursday show is out of the norm.”

“P.S. quoted from the poster above: he is being taped because he has a hellish schedule next week, with previously booked engagements on two separate coasts.”

“So what you're saying is that the 1,000,000 that showed up in 1993 went home and worked for the cause? Is that why we lost control on the hill in 1994? I may not agree of how he said it but I agree on what he said.
I'm not so against the March if people take that excitement home and get some stuff done. It didn't happen in '87 and '93 and I don't think it will happen in '09 unless we take the fight back to our home districts.”

“No, I'm not. That has never been true of any political march, even the most successful.
I *am* saying that a reasonable amount when home feeling connected to GLBT issues as political issues, and, indeed, worked for the cause and donated money. I personally know many who did as a result of that march.
Using the 1994 elections as evidence that they didn't is specious logic. The 1994 elections were not a result of gay people and their allies not "taking the fight home". It was an election defined not by gay politics but by a whole host of issues. The religious right had been organizing since the eighties, and the conservative coalitions worked in tandem to make that happen.
And it's simply not true that things "didn't get done" after the previous marches. Quite a bit has been achieved since the mid-eighties. I simply disagree with you about how those things got done. Grassroots organizing is key, and it's my preferred method of activism, but it isn't the sole reason we've seen changes. Throughout the nineties, giving, volunteerism, and membership in national organizations went up. That's valuable and certainly had an effect on what kind of legislation could be proposed and the kinds of campaigns that could be mounted in order to support said legislation.
Local organizing and national marches have different goals. Goals that, one hopes, are complementary, not coterminous.”

“But that expression rarely makes it way to where it counts. How many of these people will go back to their homes and donate the same amount of time and money to where it actually matters? Following the model of the past two Equality Marches , we know the answer is very few.”
BCLance replied on Oct 10, 2009 at 11:29:53
“That's not really fair. The facts are that the past marches, certainly the ones int eh nineties, helped to consolidate and mobilize huge swathes of people. There's a reason why there has been an uptick in GLBT organization since then, and it isn't a result of Barney Frank and the few out elected officials.
Indeed, greater visibility and willingness to participate in the political process has helped to get officials elected and laws passed.
I have a lot of respect for Barney Frank, but he has always positioned himself as a counterpoint to many of the national GLBT rights organizations. He's a smart guy, but I'm not s sure he understands the the many elements necessary to engineer social change.
It's just not that simple, and Barney Frank is not the single bottleneck through which valuable efforts to support change pass.”

These doctors, most of whom were actually "black" skinned didn't have professional make up. i am so so sure they didn't mean to offend anyone, and the lead singer "whitened" up because he was a brown man...it's a silly skit, dumb ass TV show most Australians don't even watch.”

“so basically there is a significant diff. between what robert downey jr did and what harry did from the amateur skit, and i really dont know whats the diff. between those three, but in american culture there is apparently a diff. therefore their portrayals werent offensive at all. how can australians, who have mostly never even really heard of those black face minstrel stuff, differentiate between those three acts ive mentioned. if u were to show those three here playing and acting out their parts in their costume to an australian audience, they wouldnt know the diff, to us, its the same. ur in costume, acting out the part of a black person or a white person as in the case of the white chicks movie. what is up with americans and their condescending attitude towards others. its like they feel its their right to judge a whole country and its ppl based on a stupid show and refuse to accept that australians, including aussies of african descent and aborigines, might view it in a completely diff. way than they do bcoz they have a diff. culture!”

“just so you know sexual abuse can be "consensual"
one of the handy little tricks pedophiles and sexual predators use is making the victim feel like it's their decision too. Or if the victim shows some signs of "enjoying it" than that is justification to them that it's consensual.
not saying at all this is the case with Phillips, but sexual abuse almost always certainly includes psychological and emotional abuse as well as manipulation and coercion.”
