“Pass the popcorn, I say. Sister Scare ah! brings all the p** flingers out of the woodwork. It'll be fun to watch their finger-painting skills develop.

In the interim, the 'Pugs have it in for Arlen because not only is he a RINO, but a disloyal RINO who done dumped 'em for the winning side; the Dems have it in for Arlen because they don't really trust him, besides he's voted against them for so long on the thinnest tissue of excuses (and who can forget Anita Hill?); and the Indies don't trust Arlen because, oh, well, it's hard to trust a side-switcher, yaknow?

Popcorn, I say!”

“Nearly every single point in this ludicrous purity pledge is, basically, "We oppose Obama because he's a M***ist S*****ist F***ist, therefore we support (some unworkable booll chit or the other." Except for the part about war. That, these baying dogs can't support enough.

Let's hope this works as well as those "purity pledges" Xtian rightwingnuttia had all our little boys and girls sign over the last decade, which resulted in Ay 'n'l 5ex becoming the No. 1 Favourite 5ex practice of teenage boyz'ngrlz.”

“The problem is less theoretical and more actual. Consider this: Many people who admire Dr. King (of every ethnic persuasion and skin colour) will probably plan events to commemorate the day. The chances of those events culminating in their presence at the same place and time as these almighty yobbos is high indeed. Two objects, the laws of physics tell us, cannot occupy the same space at the same time. When such objects happen to be two groups of people with radically differing opinions and every likelihood of provocateurs among them, we can safely assume that the outcome will, to say the least, not be good. Add the presence of the media, who love a good conflict, and the issue at hand becomes, "How is this to be prevented?" Even if all it achieves is the unseemly spectacle of celebrants of both camps confronting each other with epithets and the reats, it will have an effect on the body politic.”

daffey replied on Nov 22, 2009 at 19:48:30

“Sorry, I've spent my life watching things that people valued being dissed on and those folks who valued them being told to deal with it. Do I think it would be nice? No. But then I noticed being nice stopped being an issue in our culture about forty years ago. MLK is merely a person, not a god. If we are in a culture that sees various holy days and holidays, people respected and people admired being dissed on, joked about, challenged, and outright insulted - in the name of the glories of free speech - then that must apply to all things and people, MLK included. Personally I don't care for Beck, and feel it just would be an attempt to annoy people. But then people who hang atheist trees at Christmas (as opposed to, you know, Ramadan), or who burned flags on July 4 offended too. Were they, and are they, all problems like Beck?”

“This is nothing more or less than an attempt to provoke the Left into confrontation. No doubt those who wish to pay homage to King will, themselves, be planning an event of some sort, and no doubt it will culminate in a visit to this location on this day at this time.

The resultant fracas will allow these despicable excuses for humanity to further polarize the electorate, if we let it. Perhaps we should put our heads together and come up with some creative, street-theater way to defuse the situation without letting it either overwhelm us or achieve its unacceptable purpose.”

“This man has delusions of a magnitude that defy description. The danger of people like Blech in America is that our Constitution, with its powerful protection of political speech, lulls people into thinking, as Frank Zappa once said, that "it can't happen here." We forget previous demagogues who have threatened this country's unity and its very fabric. We fail to take into account the incredible reach of the electronic world in which we live. Must we wait for another Kristallnacht? This man is arousing the worst elements of our society. He is appealing to more than STD-riddled seniors in The Villages, now.”

“That is what the Founding Fathers meant by "government of the people, for the people, by the people." If you were in the shoes of this child or his parents, you would not deny yourself or your own child whatever is needed to alleviate their pain and suffering. That is why we are a government "of, by, and for" the people, not the corporations or the health insurance industry.”

“Their profits have increased by 400 times over the past five years or so. Their CEOs are outrageously paid. They skim THIRTY PER CENT off the monies paid in premiums for their "administrative overhead," unlike Medicare, which takes a mere THREE per cent. Health care for the people should not be governed by the profit motive. If these companies want to make bigger profits, there are plenty of other industries to which they can turn their hand.”

“You worry because she is indeed a demagogue and rabble rouse who doesn't have the nation's best interests at heart. The only interest she has is Sarah's. She's a dangerous and deluded person who's found a niche with some pretty unsavory people who can praise her Christian values out of one side of their mouth and holler "Kill him!" out of the other, as they did at the rallies and with the irony totally lost on them.

She's in it for Sarah. They're in it for her. I wonder what happens if she disappoints them? Queens are only a strong as their army's devotion.”
