Anybody can get into Harvard, irrespective of social standing or financial position, but still some basic criteria is needed otherwise Harvard would lose its status/authority. Coming to the 'ordinary, decent folks' part, we should remember that the president is not the pastor of the local church or the local law enforcement officer (no offence meant to either of them).
