Memo to Warren Buffett: Put Down the Pom-Poms and Tell Us the Truth About the Economy

Commented Nov 16, 2009 at 21:29:00 in Business

“Easy to say when you are not homeless or hungry. The reason we need so many laws is because
we do not have the moral compass to function in any aspect of life without them. That
is not something to be proud of !!”

“You're wrong. We have laws because we have the moral compass. Our moral compass is the basis of our laws. If we did not have a moral compass, from where would the laws come?”

“The "rich" are not spending either. They are also not hiring. Why would they. the President HATES the Chamber of Commerce. Gee I wonder WHY they are not hiring with HC reform, Cap and TAX and immigration (Give 12 million USA jobs away) reform coming up. The JOB CREATORS are terrified and will NOT hire until these issues are off the table. That's what Buffett would say IF he could.”

New Rule: Float Like Obama, Sting Like Ali

“Dear Anyone with Clout,

President Obama needs our help.
It is Saturday morning and I am having my morning coffee watching the news coverage of the "Tea Party" march in Washington. My stomach gets sick every time I hear these people spew their hate. It is not JUST about health care anymore they are out for blood. Calling the President a liar, a Marxist,a socialist and worse and gathering more steam each and every day. This is not a passing phase of their nose being out of joint believe me I am temporarily living in South Carolina and it is scary!

We The People who came out by the millions to elect him have to have his back now. I am just a regular everyday woman and have no clue how to organize something BIG....Quickly. So I thought I would contact everyone I could think of that might have that kind of power. We need to have a very VISIBLE showing, perhaps in Washington, to SHOW our support for him. Perhaps a concert and donating every dime to a kick-off fund for the public option or the health care program in general.

I hope you seriously consider helping in this quest. I truly believe a quiet ,dignified, LARGE show of support for President Obama right now just might set the tone for the next four years so he can do the job he went to Washington to do

Sincerely,
I Love My Country Too!”

Yes We Can, and Yes We Will....IF WE DO IT TOGETHER.”

“I think the bank bailout fiasco is the single biggest reason for lack of trust about healthcare.
When they didn't make the banks tow the line and because they have even begun to change the
regulations the hope of doing what is right was lost. Without a public option the EXACT same thing will happen with Big Insurance as with the banks. They stay in control of everything and nothing changes beyond the veil of foolery. How stupid is everyone that thinks otherwise!”

“I have BCBS PPO and they just refused an ER visit because I thought I was having
a heart attack on a Saturday night. I Never go to the ER and because I didn't have
a heart attack it was not an emergency and they won't pay according to my plan.

I"ve already checked into Canada and they won't take us at least onto their system because of our age and the fact we haven't paid into their system all of these years,
which is understandable albeit disappointing.

I would be gone tomorrow just to be able to live around people who treat each other with some human compassion.”

Commented Aug 12, 2009 at 22:05:48 in Business

“We read the posts and the blogs and the books and more posts and blogs and books but what can be done to stop the madness. Call and write your congressman....that's a joke! Vote in the guy promising "real change" ....that accomplished nothing! I do not believe anything can change the state
of this country and this scares me for the children and the grandchildren of us all. The average
American has no clue what is really going on and without their awareness it cannot change.
I am sad for my country and feel helpless to do anything.”

killpack replied on Aug 13, 2009 at 13:32:09

“I understand your feelings of discouragement. It seems like no matter what the people say or how loudly they say it, our elected officials just do the opposite. I'd like to spend all day writing my
Congressmen, begging them to please not take my hard earned money and hand it over to total garbage like AIG (or whatever special interest group it may be) while I'm struggling to pay bills. But for the very reason I'm struggling to pay bills, I can't do that for obvious reasons. Isn't it amazing that we pay our elected officials what we do to watch out for us, and they don't. Basically, we are paying them $170K or so a year plus incredible benefits (think of the health care packages they must get) so they can take even more of our money by force and give it away to their inner circle elite big shot friends. No wonder Congressional approval ratings are in the mid 20s. But what can we do about it?”

“I have just read an article in USA today about Republicans effort to both increase(almost double) and extend the 1st time home buyers credit and even trying to extend it to all homebuyers. While I agree that the housing industry is in tough shape it is not life or death. Lack of health insurance is!!!
How is it they have no problem finding the money for a program for a hefty tax credit for home buyers
but are appalled at the thought of health care for everyone. We are a warped society lead by even
more warped politicians!”

“One can only surmise what happens to people when they crossover into that elite stratosphere of wealth and power that rules the rest of us. That world is so complicated and complex that most us may grasp the fringes but probably never really get a clear view of its inner workings.
I do think Naomi Klein has a pretty keen sense of it however. My take on it is in the world of wealth and power will always rule the rest of us. It is just the order of things(At least according to those of that world). The Democrats, Progressives whatever just seen to have the attitude that if you take care of the little guy too it keeps the masses happy while they work you to death, they make their money but are much better at sharing the wealth made on the backs of their dutiful working class. They grow their power and wealth and it keeps the chaos at bay (rather than the end result the Bush/Cheney rule of power produced....damn near self destruction. Let me rephrase that the destruction of "disaster capitalism" of the amazingly self righteous neocons!”

“I'm with "sundialsvc4. I think perhaps what we are watching is the quintessential war between two worlds. The rich of the left vs the rich of the right and we are just the stupid pawns as usual. I think Obama's analogy yesterday about the vest bomb and AIG with their finger on the trigger is probably closer to the truth of why the bonuses were paid which in turn is why they put the pressure on Dodd to change the clause. All of our outrage probably matters nil it just changes the fall guys. These folks function in a stratosphere above ours and make all of the rules from up there. From time to time they let us think we matter...just so long as we don't get in the way(The left is better at this for the middle class). He who holds the gold rules...period!”

“Well said Mr. Frank. I like you and think you are doing a fine job in this mess. I have just one comment. Lets not forget that a good many of the sub prime loans and most importantly the NINA's were not just given to "people who should just be renters" they were sold to investors.....greedy big time and small time investors trying to make their fortunes. I have been in the real estate industry since 1987 and saw it literally day in and day out. "regular folks" were forming investment groups and getting these loans to buy-sell-buy-sell.Actually I would like to know what that ratio was (the non qualified borrowers vs. investor borrowers) There is no doubt that there are some irresponsible people who should not own a home but there were also many who were given a chance to own a home that never would have otherwise. I will venture to say that had they been given a FAIR chance with a normal interest rate and loan product that they would still be in those houses. So now we will throw the baby out with the proverbial bathwater once again . The less fortunate will go back to wearing their scarlet letters and the greed mongers will simply find another way to screw people and make money....it's the American way is it not.”

indywoman replied on Mar 18, 2009 at 22:31:51

“I think the point Mr. Frank was making is that they were never going to be given the chance they needed to keep up the payments. I don't believe for a minute that he is disparaging the less fortunate or saying that they didn't deserve a chance. The way the loans were written, they didn't stand a chance. There is a huge difference there.”

shouldn't they get a Republican to replace the one that agrees to fill a Cabinet seat of
a Democratic President. If a Dem. was appointed they could accuse Obama of trying to attain
a filibuster proof Senate. Now that being said I think Gregg is a poor choice. This is the side of
Obama that has always worried me. The Chicago school of economics side. That philosophy is why we are where we are and could push us into a Depression!”
