GOP Purity Test Echoes Berlin in 1933

“Some folks need to get it that he is practical and is handling the cards he is been dealt with the best he can. Afghanistan does pose a threat to us, but especially to the immediate surrounding areas such as Pakistan. A de-stabilized Afghanistan is in no ones interest. On top of that, he is dealing with a 60 year, entrenched military-industrial complex that hasn't gotten over it's initial build-up for WW2 and that Eisenhower warned us about.
One of the reasons why I voted for him was b/c of energy independence. I knew full well if he got into power he would have to dance with the energy folks for awhile to get us off a singular commodity that we have been dependent on for a century (like he's had to do with HCR by splitting the usual enemies of HCR -- big pharma and insurance companies). That's even more entrenched that the MIC is.
The country isn't careening towards collapse like it was a year ago. He's gotten HCR (doesn't have everything I want, but it's a start) this far like no president has. GDP is up. Our respect in the world is much, much better. Etc. Even though I haven't agreed with every decision, I have seen progress.”

“I'm a progressive, and Obama didn't say anything that I didn't hear over and over when he ran for office over the last 2 years.
He said he would wind down the war of choice, and shift resources and pverall efforts (not just troops mind you) to the war that needed to be won (Afghanistan). Coordination with Pakistan (and others in the area most affected by a de-stabilized Afghanistan), additional brigades, and broader international coalition was part of his strategy going back to 2007, in conjunction with winding down Iraq. Apparently Mr. Papantonio, you and some others weren't listening when Obama was campaigning or heard what you wanted to hear.
The GOP's fostering of ignorance, fear, and hatred (i.e. through medium like Fox Noise, Limbaugh) for the last few decades has created the teabaggers. This has been coming down the pike for a long time now. It's true that the Dems need to handle their business much better, and flex the governing muscles that have atrophied from years out of power.”

“I am most upset that the expectations of people are so over the top.
After 8 years of Bush/Cheney with 2 wars, "tax cuts for the rich" and their crashed economy that Bush decided to bail out in order to save his legacy we need a lot of time to fix all that happened.
Our country was literally taken down on it's knees under Bush, there was no leadership from Bush and Cheney other than leading us into war and giving the "rich" the money.
How can you realistically expect it to be fixed in a year?
It took 8 years to get us here!
It may take 8 year to get back and to get it over with.
America needs to finish what Bush started whether we like it or not.
I don't like the war, we should never have gone there, but Bush took us there and we need to finish the job Bush had no intention of ever finishing.
Bush inherited from Clinton a balanced budget, a surplus and a memo that said Bin Laden was determined to attack the U.S. and he squandered everything.
No one wants the Bush years back again, everyone wants the Clinton economy and now we have a guy who is making more effort than anybody has since "Reagonomics" and we have to give it some time.
Voice your concerns, your views, your discontent but have some realism about the timeline it will take to fix it.”

“Many who voted for Obama, progressives included, did so even though an escalation of warfare in Afghanistan as a foreign policy option was and is and continues to be anathema to those voter's ideals. Don't make the mistaken assumption that a vote for Obama was a vote for every position he took an every issue.
Obama also promised to double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011. No budgetary provision has been made to implement that policy in the FY 2010 Federal Budget. The cost : Roughly .01% of the cost of the surge of 30,000 troops. If you're the progressive you claim to be, you'll find this broken promise as troubling to you as it is to the rest of us "progressives".”

The MSM (especially Fox) and the GOP are DESPERATE to call this a referendum on Obama (even though the exit polls in both states of VA and NJ say otherwise). Just like the Olympics bid, they will jump with baited breath on any perceived loss. And then a short time later, Obama squashes their smileys. In this case, Obama now has 2 more congressional seats, one of which hasn't been held by a Dem since the Civil War. There were also a string of major city mayor pick-ups by Dems last night (we aren't hearing about that on the MSM either) like Charlotte, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, etc.
With all that said, nothing has changed: Obama&Dems better deliver on robust HCR with a public option + cap&trade + immigration reform + Wall Street Reform. At the same time, the GOP still has 17% of the country willing to call themselves GOP. And the 2010 are a year away, which is like 50 years in politics.”

Obama is doing the same to Fox, as he rightly should. Hannity is calling for "revolutio n." Beck is saying that volunteering is "communism ." “You mean the MSM whose owned by corporations that get a lions share of their money from pharma/insurance ads and that benefited the most from the tax cuts to the very wealthy over the last 8 years?
That MSM?”
That MSM?”

“The marginal tax rate during the 1950s was over 90%. And by the way, the economy was booming.
Income redistribution? The rich got 3 trillion in tax cuts during a time of war.”

“1. The stimulus is written to work over the next 2 years. If you or anyone else thought Obama was going to come in and stop an 8-year slide (with manufacturing it's been 30 years in decline) into economic chaos in 6 months then I have some expense swampland in Greenland to sell you.
2. The jobs were shedding at a rate of over 700,000 jobs/month and have been cut in have due to Obama stopping the free-fall. That was money going to states, and most of it isn't out the door yet b/c of assurances that it would be spent wisely.
3. What what you have done? Nothing? Or tax cuts for the rich again (which blew away Clinton's surplus)?
4. The market has gone back up from the brink (where are all the naysayers who were saying Obama is responsible for the market going down?) to over 9,000, the economy free-fall has been stopped, the rate of foreclosures has been cut tremendously, etc. The investment portion (shovel-ready projects, green energy, etc) are just beginning to start so we won't see these job indicators for awhile. Maybe you should Rush Limbaugh or Fox News if they have the answer to our problems.”

“So the stimulous plan intentionally subjected the country to at least 2 years of recession, while tax cuts across the board would would have pumped Billions into the hands of those of us who need it, and would have spent most of it, thereby stimulating the economy? Have you READ the bill Nancy and Harry put together? Have you seen the foolish waste of our tax dollars that is included? Billions for pork that will do nothing to create jobs, but will make Dems look good for 'bringing home the bacon"!
As fr the market, do the math- if you loose 50% of your value, you have to increase it 100% from that point to get back to where you started. I went from a planned retirement age of 65 to never being able to retire at all.
As for Fox and Rush, yes, they DO have a lot of solutions that you will never hear discussed on liberal media outlets. You should give them a listen for a while...”

“Sorry to say that you pay for everyone who doesn't have insurance (when they walk into the ER b/c they have no place to go) whether you like it or not in the form of higher premiums.
I'm so glad the GOP (like you) is finally displaying their real thoughts on what Jesus actually taught to America. Their response to Katrina was probably their best and most blatant illustration.”
