Sure Rachel gets off on debating Pat Buchanan. She WANTS to talk to people that she disagrees with. She invites them all the time. She had on a person advocating that gays can be "educated" to be straight and she wiped the floor with him, yet at the end thanked him for his time and expressed that she hoped that he felt like he was able to express his points.

In a healthy Democracy we talk to each other like adults in contrast to shouting "you lie" or teabagging or roguely blogging. I feel Rachel is one of the best things for Democracy and civility going.

“You listed all of my favorite things about her and included one most people over look I feel - unpretentious. I love how she is herself down to the goofy laugh (I mean that in a good way), that even with all of her intelligence she never acts like she is above anyone. Just a perpetual student of life seeking the truth, and one of the most down to earth people around.

She also lists stories that relate to progressive topics whether they are favorable or not. She was the first to report that the murdered census worked in Kentucky was found to be self-murdered - a suicide made to look like murder for insurance reasons. Even when she reported the story at first she was cautious to raise the question of it being a hate crime but not jumping to that conclusion. It reminds me of her contrast, Sean Hannity, and how he immediately leaped at the chance to decry the backwards B Ashley the McCainer it turns out carved on her own cheek.

I asked one of my conservative acquaintances to watch her and he buys into the conservative counterparts calling her out as a liberal so he assumes she blathers the same opposite hateful talking points her antitheses do. Plus he commented that she sounds too snobbish for him. How disappointed I was that he immediately jumped to that conclusion without trying to listen to what she actually said.”
