“Since you obviously can't keep up with your own state, here is a list of bills passed by your democratic house/senate that were just signed by your governor.

http://www.governor.ri.gov/documents/Legislation_Signed_by_Gov_Carcieri.pdf

And while RI unemployment is high, the number right now is 13%, not 14%.

You don't suppose the recession caused by Republican deregulation of the banking system had ANYTHING to do with your plight?”

“You mean "more legal rights" like those already granted to heterosexual couples. Lets hope that is exactly what it would lead to. That in NO way would detract from heterosexual marriage unless they all got married for the legal perks.”

“This is a perfect example of the extent that Republicans are willing to go to in order to make others miserable. Is this guy term limited?

LOL - I just looked up Carcieri on Wikipedia, the fount from which all knowledge flows. Honest, this is the first sentence.

"Donald L. "Don" Carcieri (born December 16, 1942) is a c*nt and the Governor of the U.S. state of Rhode Island."

I inserted the asterisk in c*nt. It is spelled out in Wikipedia (although it may not be there long).”

“We all know that polls (especially at this point int the election cycle) don't mean much but trends in polls can show problems developing. I don't really trust a single poll; its just too easy to make the poll reflect your own biases. But RealClearPolitics average of several polls shows Obama's approval rating remaining positive (>51%) and fairly steady since mid August. On the other hand, the congressional approval rating has been declining steadily since mid-March, down to 25% now [hmmmm, I wonder how many of those that approve are financial institution executives :-) ]. Since the Dems have the majority in Congress, it is likely this overall dissatisfaction of Congress that is reflected in the Gallup Poll (not that it matters if it causes the Dems to lose seats in 2010).
If you're interested, see:

VeryFairMOR replied on Nov 11, 2009 at 16:35:54

“This is just my opinion, but I think Obama's approval rating may have a built in bias.
I think many voters that are called when they take a poll truly like Obama the man., but don't like his agenda. Plus, in this age of political correctness, they shy away from saying they do not approve of him personally.
I think the poll numbers on the house and senate, and his individual policies are a more accurate representation of his approval rating.”

Palin very much wanted people to get the analogy you mention but you miss the real purpose of her statement - to blame it on the present administration. The only trouble is, she didn't bother to check who really authorized the coin change. On the other hand, ideologues like Palin have little concern for facts.”

“I just looked at Sowers' site. His "Issues" page (http://www.sowersforcongress.com/issues) is sadly lacking. It lists "Duty, Responsibility, and Accountability" and that's all. Evidently the economy and health care aren't issues in Missouri's 8th District. Of course, that may be the only strategy that will work to get a Dem elected in such a red district. But frankly, it isn't enough to get me to donate money. Some hint at his actual position on real issues would be nice.”

“Good grief! Stating that abortion is not a health care issue is mind-boggling. You do realize that women are going to have abortions; whether they are legal, or whether they have insurance, they are still going to have them. The problem is that it creates a huge health care issue if they don't get proper medical care.

But you argue that they consented to have the baby when they chose to have sex. Of course you completely ignore the cases of rape. I guess you think those women "asked for it". But let me see, by your line of reasoning, that guy in the car wreck was consenting to those injuries when he stepped into the car, right? That was his choice. And you know what? I knew my daughter had the flu and I took care of her anyway.... so I was choosing to expose myself. No health care for me!

If you think the government shouldn't pay for abortions, you are in agreement with the way the law stood before the Stupak/Pitts amendment. With Stupak/Pitts, it will be almost impossible for a woman to get abortion insurance even if the insurance company wants to provide it and she is willing to pay for it. Whatever happened to not wanting the government between you and your health care provider?”

JimR replied on Nov 12, 2009 at 15:40:15

“Maybe you should read Stupak/Pitts, before you pass judgment on it. The amendment prohibits use of Federal funds "to pay for any abortion or to cover any part of the costs of any health plan that includes coverage of abortion" except in cases of rape, incest or danger to the life of the mother.

Also, it also specifically allows individuals to purchase supplementary insurance that covers other abortions.”

“Its been a long time since I read the Federalist Papers and I didn't remember anything about "one nation under God" so I checked. A search for God in all 85 of the Federalist Papers revealed only two references (18 and 43 if it matters) and neither were anything to do with "one nation under God".

And if you are directed by His Word, have you already killed your neighbor for mowing the grass on the sabbath (Ex.31:15 and again in Ex.35:2)? And do you really think that we should kill rape victims if they don't cry out (Dt.22:23-24)? Oh, you meant New Testament? (That darn Old Testament is difficult to defend some time, isn't it?). Well, isn't it strange that in Matthew 8:5-13, when Jesus was asked by a Roman centurion to cure his "pais" (this is the original Greek word; it refers to a young male slave, kept for sexual purposes), Jesus did not bother condemn the slavery, the homosexuality, or the child abuse, but rather commended the centurion for his faith?

See, we lefties can read the bible too! Most of us just don't try to use it to further our own prejudices.”

“The problem with your statement Nicole is that everyone thinks their opinion is THE TRUTH. Unfortunately, two reasonable people can view all the same evidence and come up with very different answers to what the truth is. While the truth may exist (a debatable point for many issues), what one perceives as the truth is indeed dependent on their opinion. The inability to recognize this is one of the reasons the left and right seem to be incapable of having rational discussions.

Odd that in your next comment above, you say how wrong it is to refuse to engage in relevant debate but in this comment you tell handypom to like HuffPo or leave it - a statement that is hardly conducive to relevant debate.”

I won't go so far as to say I won't vote for the Dems because the options are (in order of increasing repulsiveness to me) voting for a third party, don't vote at all, vote for Republicans. None of these are acceptable to someone that wants to actually have a positive role in deciding this country's future.”

And before you make some disparaging comment as thoughtless as your others about the number of people that watch her show, know that in August of this year, her show was the fastest growing cable news program at 9 p.m, up 92 percent in total viewers versus August 2008 (996,000 vs. 519,000) and up 61 percent in A25-54 (304,000 vs. 188,000).
