“m-dwarf planets encounter special problems though, their tidally locked orbits can cause one side to become irradiated while the other never receives light, the planet can turn on it's side causing the atmosphere to overheat and to create a nonseasonal world, m-dwarfs lack ultraviolent radiation, m-dwarfs also develop very large sunspots that can reduce the sun's output by as much as 40%, M-Dwarfs also have unstable light that can increase by 100% instantly. All of these factors present challenges to complex life but don't exclude possibility. https://www.impartial-review.com/stories/the-ten-most-habitable-exoplanets. “The correlation between assault weapon ownerships per 100,000 and number of homicides is .50 in developed countries or other words the homicide rate could be reduced by 50% by banning assault weapons.  Limiting children's exposure to violence could reduce it another 30% and not surprisingly most countries have a homicide rate that is about 1/10 the U.S. homicide rate so that suggests a solution that may work.  I know correlation doesn't equal causality but there are plenty of other causal studies that suggest this approach would work in the long run.  ”

“Violence is multicausal. Guns certainly increase the kill rate but American has more attempts at homicides than other countries. Researchers and anti-violence groups have many recommendations that are part of a comprehensive program that includes banning assault weapons, limiting children's exposure to violent media and bullying and creating a system that intervenes when individuals began acting strangely. In most cases, that doesn't mean they've becoming violent but that doesn't mean they need some sort of help. https://www.impartial-review.com/stories/what-do-scientists-say-about-preventing-violence-part-ii-us-scientists-statements

“Ur absolutely right.  In Canada they take observers opinions seriously, not just professionals before they issue someone a gun permit.  Would prevent most mass murders in this country if we just went with Canadian laws which don't burden hunters.  They really only burden gun company profits which has been getting in the way of solutions for a long time.”

“seems to me the system was gutted by Reagan after Carter tried to fix it.  Civil rights concerns that forcing someone to take medications or receive treatment against their will can easily be addressed if a board that relies on psychological testing instead of psychiatric opinion is used to assess who needs such treatments.  Right now there doesn't seem to be anywhere a concerned family can turn and receive an adequate response.

And that doesn't mean we shouldn't get rid of the assault rifles. It means we need to do both.  No approach is failsafe.  We need to take all positive steps available to us. ”

Right now the bar is far too high. We know that plenty of people have done violence and yet even though they were known to have serious issues, they were not held. It shouldn't be that big of a deal to have some of these people in a mental hospital. Evaluate them, if they hear voices, what are the voices telling them to do?

As I'm sure you have heard, the AR-15 is very popular with millions in private hands in the US and it is very rarely used in any crime. Even though you can point to mass shooters who have used versions of this weapon, the OR mall shooter, the DC sniper, and the CT shooter, and certainly others, there is no evidence that they would not simply shift to a different weapon. For example, the DC sniper could've used a bolt action .308 Winchester. Note this is a heavier weapon and is also used by the military in, for example, some sniper rifles.”

They already knew that the CT shooter was crazy, they knew that the Joker theater shooter was crazy, they knew that the AZ congresswoman shooter was crazy. How about doing something about these people before they shoot people? In the AZ case, the school, the local police and the military ALL knew he was nuts and did nothing.”

“I hope the ideas in this article are adopted nationally. Obviously, this is a big part of the problem. however, diagnosing and seeing the warning signs for someone like Lanza requires a psychologist or psychiatrist who has the power to admit him to treatment. There is a shortage of beds and an unwillingness to pay for inpatient care when families believe there is a potential for violence.”

“Obama proposed a 2013 budget back in February of 2012. Democrats should reread this on the whitehouse website or look at the highlights because there are plenty of great ideas worth fighting for. We can't allow the Republicans to distort people's views with the usual rhetoric that we need more spending cuts. Obama has some great ideas for closing corporate loopholes and programs that grow jobs, protect the environment and support our children's future.
