“I too have stopped giving money to the Democratic Party. In fact I went a step further, I changed my Political affliation to the Democratic Socialist Party as a protest to the Democratic policies that have hurt not only members of the GLBT community, but also to the Parties inability to back the core of Democratic belief's such as Healthcare for all, and end to Corporate greed, and not ending the War in both Iraq and Afganistan.
More folks need to do the same thing and show the Democratic Party that they need to listen to the American people not the money-eyed Corporate folks on Wall Street.”

Sorry, Not Enough House Votes To Pass Health Care Bill Without a Public Option
Commented Aug 17, 2009 at 16:05:24 in Politics
“I voted for Obama because I believed in his message of Change, because Change meant Hope, something that has been lacking in this country during the last 8 years of Republican rule. A rule of no hope, no change, no nothing. But, as I read and watch the news, it seems that Obama and his Advisors are "thinking of jettisoning" the Public Option in the Healthcare Debate.
Mr. President, if you jettison the Public Option, then you jettison Hope for the Millions of Americans like myself who are living on a thread due to our precarious health, it means sir that you are robbing our future to save your Politcal Hide, I am aware of the tide of fear which seems momentous to you and the other members of the Democratic Party, but hold fast to your Pledge to us, make Hope happen.
I would like to suggest to everyone to pull off the road safely and blow your horn in your vehicule this coming Friday at 12noon, send a message of Hope and a need to put the Pledge of Change into the air and revitalize Hope across this country, make the Leaders of this Country hear us, shake the walls of every state capitol and Congress in Washington, with our horns, show them We are the real power in this Country.”

But, in a way this may be just the ticket for the middle class to wake up and take to the streets, the internet, the library, each other and find ways to protest, put a wrench into the well oiled Corporate machine and fight back...in other words, stop us from waiting from the "word" on high and put ourselves into the drivers seat for change....this time from the bottom up!!!”

“Wrestle control from the Rich? It going to have to take alot more than the President Obama to do so, it is going to have to come right down to a social revolution to accomplish being down the Establisment of Corporate greed. And that means taking to the streets and protesting, most Americans talk about being frustrated and angry, but they on the whole are not angry enough to take action and take risks in the confrontation that must happen. When Americans really are mad enough and pushed into the corner, then and only then will they act.”

Everyone Agrees We Need to Reform Wall Street... Just Like After Enron

“The only way the rich and the Wall Street moguls will understand the need for reform is when the regular people in America rise up and take the power back. Until we stop kow-towing to the elite, the media supposed to know it all and the brokers in Washington D.C. of both Parties, we will continue to be screwed by the powers that be. Its time to tell Washington to take a backseat, its time to tell Wall Street and the rich to shut up.
Revolt is the only way to make change happen. We have watched our government become nothing more than a rubber stamp for the lobbyists, we see the halls of Congress and the Senate filled with folks who have been elected by us, only to turn against the very people who voted them in and have their coffers filled by the Rich moneyed machines who want and need the status quo continue and the gravy train of greed continue to enhance their positions of wealth and power.
Until the American people wake up and demand real change not window dressing, we will continue to be pushed into the shadows and ignored. Rise up and take back what is our rightful place based upon the Constitution "that all men are created equal". Corporations are not people.”

“Maybe, but in 1935 it was not the people, but the rich, led by Roosevelt (very rich) who took the power back. The rich were tired of the con games and scams being run by the banks and the resulting economic busts every 10 years. While Roosevelt's reforms ultimately helped the general population it was because he was looking for a stable growing economy, not subject to banks and con men playing games. At the same time "the people" were supporting Huey Long in Louisiana (who actually opposed the New Deal), who proceeded to steal the state blind. The people were as dumb and silent as ever. More important, it was the people who supported Regan in 1982 that started the era of "you can have everything and you never have to pay for it", that got us into the mess we are in today. Likewise, the people rejected Jimmy Carter and his austere policies intended to balance the budget and get the economy stable after 20 years of excessive spending under both Dems and Reps., preferring Regan's deregulation of wall street and the housing market that quickly led to the Savings and Loan debacle. The people really don't have a very good record when it comes to positive reform.”

We do not need more rules. These companies would have failed and the free market would have worked. The average person would not have lost any money because FDIC would replaced their money up to 100K.
What rules can congress write that smart lawyers, risk takers, and lobbyists not find a way to skirt those rules. Bigger the disaster the more likely the govt will bail them out. In other words no free market.
Everyone seems to have forgotten what a free market is. It rewards those that deliever a good product at a good value. The free market will eliminate those that cheat.
But the mighty US govt is doing the cheating. Rescuing those (without punishment) that did not deliver a good product for a fair price and then beyond all reasoning uses these people to write rules”

I do not need Mr. Donohue to tell me what is and isn't good for the Church or for my intellect. Mr. Howard, I applaud your ability as a director and have enjoyed all of your movies and I intend to support you by seeing this film.
If the Church of Rome is out to boycott your film consider it a huge bonus as many Catholics will rush to see the movie BECAUSE the Church is speaking against the film. Until the Church speaks out and pushes to get rid of the Child abusing clergy, I will take what the Church says with a huge grain of salt!”

It is not a gene or anything inborn. Perhaps you are a a practicing catholic, but I notice here and elsewhere, people who haven't been to church for twenty years identify as catholic much in the same way that one says, "I'm Irish" or "I'm German". To me, this only speaks of the incredible job of brainwashing the church does on innocent children.”

Now we have Republicans and other right wingers vocalizing the same kind of crap that the Civil War was fought over, this time over a Democratic ruled Congress and an Afro-American President. The irony is unbelievable. It was the firebrands who got their way back in 1860, I hope that history does not repeat itself. But if it does, this time I would suggest that a popular vote take place to allow those states in the South to leave if they so desire in peace and let the rest of the country move on to a more progressive, (read Republican free), life!!!”

“I think its time for the Obama Administration to start thinking out of the box for a change. For instance, why not give money to the average American in a lump sum, that could do two things, help folks get their old debts caught up, or allow folks without debt to buy or invest in something that would be forward moving in the economy. We need to again become a center of manufacturing in this country, give TARP monies to help rekindle manufacturing in this country, not in the old Rust Belt image, but with a Green perspective.
Perhaps give incentives to Older Americans 55 years old to quit their jobs and retire if they so desire, allowing younger workers to take those jobs, move forward and increase the prosperity in an outward spiral, it would reduce unemployment, boost the amount of money into Social Security and allow older workers to retire if they want with dignity, provided they would get enough of an incentive to retire and live off that incentive until they could access social security.”

Man are you even on this planet? Adding more to the SSI is going to "boost the amount of money into Social Security "
Maybe you need to Google David Walker the ex-comptroller general.
WALKER: In 1950 we had 16 people paying into Social Security for every person retired. Now we have 3.3 to 1. We're going to have 2 to 1 by 2030. Same ratios for Medicare. We've never faced this before. This is a tsunami of spending that can swamp our ship of state if we don't get serious.”

The milk of human kindness tends to dry up when situations like an economic collapse engulfs a whole country. Its so sad,but your right on the money, we Americans need to pull together and help one another as much as we can, be it through prayer, giving an extra can of food to our local food bank, helping or adopting somebody who is worse off than ourselves, giving opens our hearts and releases our minds from being trapped by fear and negativity. It is a gateway for ourselves to have a sense of order and control, rather than screaming like Chicken Little that the sky is falling! We can and must trust others and ourselves to climb out and reach out to others in a positive, life affirming manner.”

It is a gateway for ourselves to have a sense of order and control, rather than screaming like Chicken Little that the sky is falling! We can and must trust others and ourselves to climb out and reach out to others in a positive, life affirming manner.”

“Let us not forget another imposing debt that is coming at us like a tidal wave, auto loans and student loans, also have been placed in bundles for resale and many of them are in default status.”

“Auto loans? There's a simple remedy for that--repo the car. Those loans are based on physical collateral and ought to be in a lot less trouble even if the car winds up worth less than the loan.
Student loans? That was people trying to improve their economic status and earning power, and then they got in over their heads. "We," I should say--I'm one of them. There should be some kind of standard as to how much aid a student can get over their lifetime, because I know someone who's at least $60k in debt to student loans right now and that's just ridiculous. For my part I only went for a few quarters before my life fell apart again and I don't have nearly as much debt--just under $3k, in fact--but to me it might as well be a million dollars. And now the economy's completely shot so I have little chance of getting out of this any time soon.”
