'So In Style' Black Barbies Condemned For Straight Hair
Commented Oct 11, 2009 at 21:55:26 in Style
“Oh my goodness. Much ado about nothing, I think. When I was growing up I owned a Barbie, a white one with long blond hair. ..that was all they made back then. I combed and braided her hair and had a great time. Never once did I question who I was nor did I wish to be white like her. I knew that I was a young black girl, with long hair that was a different grade of hair from my doll and the white people I was around every day. No doll, but my parents were who I searched out to help me establish my identify. My hair has been through every transition possible, long, medium, short, curly, straight, permed, dyed...you name it and I have done it to my hair. My point being, never once during any of these transitions did I question who I was or what I was going to become. My mom and dad, not a doll, were my role models and the people I wanted to emulate.”

“President Obama is one person...h e can only do so much on his own. He needs all of us, all who elected him to get reconnected to the cause he challenged us to be a part of through his campaign. We are the HOPE and the CHANGE we wished for. We have to be vigilant and active if we want our world to be different.”

“Oh please! She is the first lady of the US and so a very public figure. She is a wonderful person and a great flotus but her wardrobe sometimes is wanting. It is not about wearing expensive stuff coz I have seen her looking wonderful in J crew or cheaper outfits. It is just confirming to some unspoken rules and standards about dresses; color combination, accessories (eg belts ! ). etc.”

“I know what you are speaking is true. I am right across the Savannah River in GA and we have our own crosses to bear. Sonny Perdue, Paul Broun, Nathan Deal, Saxby Chambliss, Johnny Isakson... need I go on. It is so time for a change. They are killing our states.”
AlaskanWannaB replied on Sep 20, 2009 at 19:03:11
“I agree. I am from Georgia, too. I really want to get rid of Saxby Chambliss, but I'm in a heavy Republican district. I was a Federal employee last year and could not participate in any form of campaigning support one (or the other) of the candidates. However, I'm now retired and I plan to man the phones of any and all Obama supporters. And, I think I'll head back to Chester SC to support Congressman John Spratt, who is getting a beating from the anti-Healthcare Reform crowd.”
