“The total failure of the Federal Reserve to do its JOB has possibly ruined this country. They are supposed to be disciplined & active at creating RULES for financial services & banks. What did Greenspan do besides gently scolding us about irrational exuberance, or Bernanke ?? they didn't fight against the deregulation of everything. Cowards or what?? Geithner & Summers, etal aren't really in the citizens corner at all.

It started in the late 60's probably when Schultz threw out the Gold standard - any standard. Then Clinton started letting the banks do whatever they wanted... Despicable and very disturbing.
Good for Sen. Cantwell!”

PS: I've been in a relationship w/ my female partner for over 20 years (I'm a girl, too) She had 2 kids...I accepted them and we're still a family. Now a grandmother!

“I'll always have a big sweet spot in my heart for Dickens - especially Bleak House and Our Mutual Friend. Everyone should also read Tale of Two Cities, just for the mystery & history of it.

Of course I adore Flaubert and Jane Austen, Wharton and S.V. Millay - as a poet. I think I like novels (or stories) the most when they present a clear sociological & history-environmental character.

I have a set of Dickens, but I am always reading my favorites over and over: Our Mutual Friend, Bleak House, Great Expectations and sometimes Ollie and Davey. What others are your favorites? If I were choosing between Martin Chuzzlewit, Barnaby Rudge, Dombey and Son, and Nicholas Nickleby, which would you recommend?”

Hard to believe someone HAS $140K to offer for one kiss, but it's cool anyway...”

Surgery Left Phil Collins Unable To Play The Drums

Commented Oct 20, 2009 at 15:22:01 in Entertainment

“I'm a drummer, too, and I can't really play much either because of arthritis & repetitive stress injuries. The reality is that drumming can be very hard on the hands, wrists and feet. It is very painful for me to play as I used to - if not impossible. It's idiotic to call Phil a wimp...
I WISH I had thought about the 'repercussions' (pun) of my technique 40 years ago. Yes, Thomas Lang is great - technically - but I can imagine what condition his left hand will be in in 20 years.

It is very upsetting & sad to be a musician who can not play anymore, as we once could. The music is still here, though.”

whognu replied on Oct 21, 2009 at 09:50:03

“As a pianist who can no longer play due to a severe injury of the left wrist, I feel for you and Phil. When you have devoted years to perfecting your art, when you have that emotional connection to it, it becomes a part of you. Losing that ability leaves an aching place in your heart. This is not just about the loss of a commercial product, but rather the loss of an important facet of a person's life. Whether one like's Phil's music or not, a bit of empathy for the man would be nice to see on these pages.”

“It is a sad fact of aging that many of the physical activities that were a person's passions in life become more difficult or impossible to do anymore. Athletes come to this realization early in life, but the same is true for many, many other passions. It is something that I have not seen much talked about in the media. Perhaps that will change as the baby boomers discover this tragic change in their own lives. I am sorry for you, and I am sorry for Phil Collins that you cannot do what you love.”

It is is no way comparable to male circumcision, however terrible it might seem to some men. StCuthbert may defend them, but it's just normal practice in various parts of the world: women are not treated with respect. They're oppressed, abused and used.”

“The 33-year-old school teacher from the area of Harlingen, Texas, died yesterday after first seeking treatment for a chronic respiratory condition on April 14, said Leo Lopez, an epidemiologist at the Cameron County Department of Health and Human Services in Texas. The teacher returned to the hospital on April 19 with more severe symptoms, he said.

Exacerbated by Flu

“She already had a respiratory condition -- it was exacerbated by the flu,” Lopez said in a telephone interview yesterday. He said the woman hadn’t traveled recently and the flu was probably “home-grown,” contracted in the U.S. Cameron County is located in south Texas along the U.S. border with Mexico. I have asthma and I think we were all thrown under the bus for the recovery. They had no idea what this would do and Mexico was being less than honest with the numbers. They should have shut the border. Im sick of the "regular flu..." ministry of information paroters spreading the lines.

Why not tell us the truth then deal with the panic instead of dealing with the panic before telling the truth?”

“I barely remember Kelly in Top Gun - liked her a lot in that movie with Harrison Ford.

But - some people really ARE bisexual. And sometimes women & men say that when they're on their way to saying, Oh I am gay.
Why is it necessary to keep yourself in one box or another? It's ridiculous to me. And the comments from Dr Manhattan & Rockyersolksoff are so silly: She has a right to look and dress however she wants - no need to insult her!

And if you care, I have been in a lesbian "marriage" for 20 years, but I am really a bisexual. I like men, I like women. Doesn't mean I act on any of it, since I'm not single. If I were - who knows?

I am a lesbian - bi-sexual, and while it's all been a bit depressing, I'm not going into an Anti-Obama mode. There is more work to be done - and the passage of time might make a big difference....”

“I was really disappointed with the concert overall because it WAS created as an HBO event for the Masses - too commercialized with Popular musicians -vs excellent musicians that would play some more kinds of distinctive American music.
Twice as much Springsteen & Bono, not as much Stevie Wonder. No real jazz or blues. Herbie Hancock playing practically anonymously.

I know they wanted to pack in as many performers as possible, but a few were plainly ridiculous (Shakira?) and others ......I don't know.

Whether it was taken unconsciously or not, they SHOULD pay Satriani something. They can afford it- as Harrison could when he settled his suit over "He's so fine."
If it makes any difference, I'm a musician w/ 45 years of experience.”

lushious llama replied on Dec 10, 2008 at 21:48:39

“Everyone keeps mentioning the George Harrison "He's So Fine" lawsuit. That was a revenge lawsuit generated and filed against Harrison by his former manager Allen Kline of ABKCO. You know that name on the back of the original "Let It Be" album "Apple Records, an ABKCO company"?

Allen Kline was the same guy that ripped off the Rolling Stones. Allen Kline was the same guy that took 100% of the royalties from "Bittersweet Symphony". This guy was a pirate in the music industry. Look him up in Wikipedia. He started out claiming to get musicians more money from their record companies and in all honesty he did do that because the record companies were incredibly corrupt and did not pay the artists fairly. So some kudos must go to him for that, but he was a bit of a bad guy as well. He did take advantage of the artists he represented. He owns the Rolling Stones up to 1971. That's what kind of pirate he is.

So when the Beatles realized the kinds of backroom, against their interests dealings Allen Kline tried to do, the Beatles fired him. In order to exact revenge Allen Kline specifically went out and bought the rights to the song "He's So Fine" in order to get revenge against Harrison and make at least one of his former client's life miserable. The He's So Fine law suit is garbage and the Judge who decided it was seriously wrong. Bad law.”
