“You're absolutely right, of course; actions do speak louder than words. Billionaires need to be taxed more, at the rates they were taxed in the 1950s, when the United States became the world's #1 industrial producer. Those were the days!

“You and 395spoons above you are right on the money. Dont' have a clue where Mr. Berry is coming from, but Cramer is in the toilet as a result of this. Even those poor dupes who were still looking to him to tell them what to do are not going to tune in any more.”

hp blogger Tim Berry replied on Mar 13, 2009 at 18:16:39

“@noradunn and @uffa as to where I'm coming from, it's not that I like Cramer or ever did. I am just cynically guessing that the flap will be good for his career, along the lines of even bad publicity being better than no publicity. And, after all, here we are all posting and commenting about him.

I don't dispute 395Spoons' numbers, and if that's what the ratings show, then my guess was wrong, at least on the short term. If so, I'm happy to be wrong on this one.

I also watched the Thursday night Cramer appearance on the Daily Show, and I have to admit, it does make my guess of it less likely, because he seemed so helpless in the face of the video evidence.

Still, on the long term, we all know of people whose ability to make people mad at them helped their careers. If we did a poll of random people on the street, do you think more of them would recognize Jim Cramer today, compared to a month ago, or a year ago? I do. Some of these people disgraced in public come back with bumps in their careers because of it. Don't they?”

“I agree that she probably has never read Pegler. But whoever wrote her speech surely had, and she either didn't have the intellectual curiosity to ask anything about this person she would be quoting (which says a lot), or she did ask and she didn't care (which says even more).

The larger issue, though, is how this Pegler quote begs the question: just how much is the McCain campaign signalling the racists in the country? A little wink, wink on the issue of letting the n----- in the White House.”

Hufferton replied on Sep 15, 2008 at 16:05:31

“Good points uffa. The race issue is an insidious problem and the *wink and a nod* is definitely in play (not a subliminal message).”

Say good night, New Orleans. John McCain and the Bush adminstration really care. They're on their way down to watch you go under a second time.”

Cinton is just relying on this history-- and the unflattering image Republicans have created -- to back up her tall tales.”

“You know what? If this country keeps playing the guilt by association game, there will be nobody to run in this country but grandmothers who never had a job and tended their flower gardens all the time. I mean, being in the public spehere, you meet -- and sometimes hang out -- with people.”

“Amazing , jus amazing. You media people who put Obama on a pedastal have lead us to this - republicans may take it again. This upsets me. I voted for bush the 1st time - what a mistake. 2nd time did not vote for him (got sick of all the BS). I wanted the democrats to take it this year. And I was sure that the democrats would take it this time. But now i am scared that they won't. Had the media done their job early (maybe obama would have not gone this far (you guys literraly stacked the deck for him - maybe edwards). Now we are in this mess and McCain may take. You media types deserve it for pedaling him. You guys even become upset when they ask questions that should be answered (come on 20 years at chuch and he was not aware...he is a harvard grad and lawyer).

anyway thank you media types for giving the republicans the go ahead. sad!”

“Though I have admired Mayhill Fowler's reportage, I tend to agree here. This really isn't any different from zeroing in on Obama in a bathing suit with your telescopic lens and printing it . This was peeping and telling too.

It's also a bit odd that Jay Rosen is so much at pains to rationalize this flap. This is really no different from what was done to Stephanie Power by The Scotsman, except here Obama wasn't even informed that the tape was running.

Call it "Citizen Journalism" however much you want, you are publishing information here and what was done here is a breach of journalistic standards. It doesn't matter that Mayhill Fowler supports Obama (though on that score you should know many are questioning whose money she was contributing, pointing to the fact that she went to Wellesly with Hillary Clinton). She was peeping and telling.

I admire Obama for not calling her out on it. But I do not admire Ms. Fowler. this was rather blatant careerism as far as I can tell.”

“You're making everything you say up out of whole cloth. Like we really believe you sit it on grad school debates. And you're way too resentful to point the finger at anyone else. Besides that, you don't write nearly as well as you think you do. Very labored. Very labored.”

For every poster like you, there are probably 5 or 6 reasonable Democrats who are so disgusted by what you have done to this race they are not offering their voices to what passes for debate around here. This is not a game for dems like me. I don't want to find new and ever-adolescent ways to insult people. I want this nonsense to stop. You have no idea what it was like to actually fight for the Democratic party. Ever been arrested? Sprayed with tear gas? Ever run from cops with clubs? Ever been put on an FBI list? Close to someone whose family members got crosses burned in their yard in the 60s? Got a mother in law who was held at Posten during WW2 for being Japanese American? Lost a loved on in the middle east? Would you do anything to see that your daughter has the right to choose? These are MY experiences. Are they yours? No? Oh, but you pwned someone at Huffpo -- woo hoo! Good one!”
