3-Year-Old Florida Boy With Autism Denied Right To Keep His Pet Chickens [UPDATE]

3-Year-Old Florida Boy With Autism Denied Right To Keep His Pet Chickens [UPDATE]

Commented Dec 10, 2013 at 11:55:02 in Parents

“and they did nothing to go after the perpetrators who put decapitated chickens in their back yard? florida is a national embarrassment.”

Bink Miller on Dec 10, 2013 at 12:14:03

“Just shut up about Florida. I have lived here off and on for years. Florida is great! These people had the coop before they knew it would help the kid and got to keep it because they said the kid responded to the chickens. This story reeks of BS. It is written to make uninformed people feel sorry for them and send in 5 bucks. I am waiting for the crowd funding webpage to go up.”

quiltchase on Dec 10, 2013 at 12:02:21

“Also, the article was unclear as to if the decapitated chickens were their own chickens.”

“answer: NO. and even if one were to answer "yes" there is (not theirs) no double standard. so far, a corporation has no ability to arrest you, try you and toss you in prison...and yes, corporations are accountable to their shareholders (if they are public) and to their customers (boycotts have changed attitudes and actions). furthermore, one must give them permission, either explicit (by checking a box) or tacit (by the act of signing up)... facebook is not "spying" on me, because i CHOOSE not to sign up. choice is a major part of the difference.”

happinessisearned on Dec 10, 2013 at 11:12:50

“So you acknowledge the choice you made with Facebook but not with your elected officials? The NSA is spying on us, we know that now, the shock should be over. Now that we know the NSA is spying on us why has this not lead to a larger conversation about how our lives have been intruded upon in nearly every sense. If the American people really want their privacy (not just something new to be mad about) then why is the conversation so narrow. Furthermore, if we're so mad about it why aren't our elected officials doing anything about it? Why are we allowing big money in our politics to influence us so much so that we get mad about things and hold no one accountable?

There's this perpetual "I'm angry about this" story line that has been flowing through the American social dialogue for what seems like forever. Different subject same "outrage" until something new to be pissed off about comes along. I just don't buy that we're actually mad about this. It seem to me that people just want to be mad about whatever to distract themselves from their empty lives.

This is a real problem and after all of the fruitless conversations we've had as a society. I really don't think anything of substance is going to come from this unless people are serious about their privacy, and I don't see that.”

“the argument is that egg farms do affect others negatively...but my answer would be to throw all that money into treating chickens and other birds more humanely and inventing ways of dealing with their waste more effectively. not by coming up with more overprocessed frankenfoods that really don't address the problems of factory farming.”

“If this is successful it could totally eliminate chicken factory farms for eggs. Then there would be no chickens suffering in egg factory farms. I submit that would really be a way to more humanely treat chickens that are being used to produce eggs.”
