Unemployment Extension Standoff, Day 38: What Happens Next

Commented Jul 11, 2010 at 11:12:29 in Politics

“I agree...there is NO GOD....I am so sick of hearing God will help those who help themselves. I have helped myself, by myself, my whole life what is my reward? To loose my 50 thou job, my home, and most of my possessions. I am also sick of hearing how God gave us "free will" It was NOT my "free will to loose my job, my savings, my 401K, my health insurance, and my house!”

“I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to you. My husband died last summer and took most of our income to the grave with him. When he was alive, we had income of over $60,000 a year. Now I get less than $10,000. When he retired he spent 2 years talking me into quitting my job. We certainly didn't expect him to die so young. Anyway, I've been selling stuff to try and keep my home. I will try to get a job eventually, but employers aren't exactly clamoring for 53-year-old widows.”

Unemployment Extension Standoff, Day 36: Blaming The Unemployed

“I am currently on unemployment. I resent being referred to as lazy, unmodivated, and a drug-addict. For the 1st time in my life I CAN NOT find a job. For the 1st time in my life I had to apply for public assistance. Apparently, I am over qualified, for Walmart, the local supermarket, ect. I live in the 3rd poorest city in the country. Since on employment, I have taken every FREE computer class offered through Workforce Development, and am currently a student at a private college. I have a 3.5 GPA. Not everyone on unemployment sits on our behinds high on drugs. At the age of 53, I should NOT be starting over again. I should be planning my retirement. At this point I will volunteer to a drug test, if the result is extended unemployment benefits.”

“The situation is dire for many and the no minds refuse to see the reality. WHAT is worse is they WILLFULLY refuse to see the reality.”

“not all of us on unemployment sit around on our asses and abuse drugs. I am in school, and have a 3.5 GPA. Someone who is on drugs would not have a 3.5 GPA and would NOT be attending school. I will volunteer to submitt to a drug test, if I can keep my benefits while in school.”
