“Thank you, Arianna, for being the canary in the coal mine in warning us just how far below Obama's actions are slipping below his promise. You've caught of lot of flack from certain HP regulars (who still make use of your website to grouse at you) but the truth is the truth and you have thankfully stuck to your guns and remained faithful to your worldview. Happy New Year!”

“The real tragedy of Obama's timidity is the dashed hopes of the young who for so long have not bothered with the political system, deeming it irrelevant which is what it was. Another apathetic generation. What a waste!”

“I'm a bit puzzled by this award myself and I voted for him. For those of us who have been fighting for decent health care in these United States for the average citizen we have not had too much success in luring the President over to not just endorsing a robust health care plan but in actively fighting for it. Hope this spurs his leadership skills which I'm certain he must possess.”

“Michael Moore has said it all beautifully. If you're still confused it is likely that you will never get it or don't want to get it. I assume your cynical remarks are aimed at the Nobel Committee, since President Obama did not seek this award. The Committee is endorsing his vision of change for the world I want to live in. A vision that is broader than health care alone. A vision I want to work for and yes fight for, that is not President Obama's responsibility alone.Cyni cs are like all critics; "They want to tell the farmer how to plow the field from the road" President Obama's leadership does not need to be spurred but your faith and understanding might..”

“Nice, and McCain would have done a simply dandy job of reforming wall street. What makes you think Hillary would have done a better job reforming Wall Street? Especially within an 8-12 month period? You people are so simplistic and naive to believe that the President by himself can just act as a dictator and force people to behave just because he said so. This is not about Obama, or Hillary. It's about a corrupt system that has been decades in the making. This country's entire financial system is deeply rooted in corruption and it will take at least a decade to get Wall Street at a point where it should be.”

“I didn't say that. But if the only reason he's there is because we didn't like the alternative that does not speak in favor of him but against those who ran against him. He is a weak President! I voted for him and his ideas for change. I would never have voted for McCain. We have no real choices anymore. “The bank bailout was the single most critical event in the destruction of the trust people put in their government. I would say it even outranks the Supreme Court decision of 2000 which selected George Bush as president! I don't think the politicans know how outraged the citizenry is! They have not a clue. I'm talking about ordinary Americans, not the always vehement NeoThugs. We voted for change and one of the first thing the new President does is continue George Bush's policy of courting Wall Street's and the banks' favor. THere is a lot of anger and mistrust out here, more than I've ever felt!”
unionave replied on Sep 02, 2009 at 00:56:08
“HP went to Congress and got on his knees begging for tax payer money to bail out the crooked banks in 2008 . Congress approved $750 BILLION . About a year before that the FED was dumping money in to the banking system and as of today will not tell Congress what or to who they gave some of the money . AIG was bailed out and taken over by our government toxic assets and all in 2008 . The reason the new President offered Geithner the job was because Geithner knew where all the buttons were that needed to be pushed . So far that has worked out well . Regarding health care ; There is no Obama care bill . It does not exist . There is not a bill that congress has ready to sign . A bill will be signed when Congress completes it's work and the new President agrees to sign it . So any talk of a health care bill now is only conjecture . And in the case of the Repubs ; Smoke and mirrors . Complaining about what might happen is good politics .”

“You must be naive if you think there's any power at the polls anymore. Votes are jokes to politicians. Once they're elected they do as they please. Money on the other hand walks and talks and has legs. That's where the average person can hurt them. Speaking of France, we should use that wonderful nation as an example. THey have rights there and they're not afraid to fight for them! Vive la France!”

“You're right about money talking, but a nationwide boycott will hurt the business owners (evidently you are not one of them or do not work for one of them). If you want to hurt Congress, it has to hit their pocketbooks. Fight for term limits! I know of France, I was there when they had one of their biggest protests. Thousands of bakers (unionized) closed factories because they were fighting work week hours. Fine, I respect that. But some are short sighted in their protests. Many times they hurt themselves. Just like the unions here. They hold out for weeks and months for a nickel in salary that they will never get back in wages, never. Biting one's nose to spite the face, you know?”
