Afghanistan Withdrawal Date: 'Flexible' Or 'Locked In'?

Commented Dec 05, 2009 at 05:00:39 in World

“This country's people are heirs to a lot of noble things but what are we doing or better yet, what have we done with those noble gifts which are our legacy. We have been so destructive in so many ways of our society's mores and norms. Yes we once championed freedom and humane treatment of others. We were respected by many countries, even looked up to as a country other countries aspired to emulate.

But, for the past 8 years, our country began to emulate other countries who have no respect for its populace and took on the appearance of some of those countries whom we had disdain for because of their immoral and uncivil treatment of other countries. I never thought i would live to see the day when America would senselessly attack another country in such an uncivilized manner. But, not only did we attack another country, we occupied it as a shield for engaging in what i consider the worst crime possible. This war was all about funneling money from America to individuals for personal gain and for attempting to profit from another countries resources. The attack on Iraq was all about the money and there are many who ought to be tried for various crimes of fraud and corruption as well as for war crimes. Such a disgrace.”

“Amen to all of these comments. Why isn't anyone talking about this?! It's not an attack on her family, it's a valid question of her character. Either she:

1. Acted recklessly late in a pregnancy that she knew was going to produce a special-needs child, or

2. She lied to the world and made herself out to be a giant hypocrite for posing as the mother of her teenage daughter's child.

Either she has TERRIBLE judgment, or she is a fraud. Take your pick!”

Until the doctor involved with the so-called "delivery" tells the truth, the cover-up is likely to continue even though it is apparent that Trig had to be born before the date given. All the pics you see of her before her "pregnancy" pictures a month before Trig's birth show a non-pregnant Palin. The lies continue.”

There are records for sure and the number of people who would have been involved in delivering the baby provide documentary evidence. But, one thing i hope is that no candidate ever brings it up as an issue against her for it will certainly make her a martyr. She appears to be the type of person who believes her own untruths so she would probably feign hurt and accuse that candidate of slanderous assaults.”

“Since Palin brought it up, has factcheck.org checked the birth certificate of Trig because many will never be convinced that she was ever pregnant during the time she supposedly carried Trig. Most mothers who read the story and see the pics have real doubts. Maybe a paternity test? Anyway, I think Palin needs to just stop talking about birth certificates. She really is a piece of work.”

“This post is a reminder to me of how livid I was when Geithner's name was put forth as Treasury Secretary. I don't know where this current rumor started about Mr. Dimon, but I can't believe it is anything else. As the old folks used to say, "If he (Obama) knows what's good for him, he better be still." Translation: President Obama should not be making any changes right now. He should let the dust settle while continuing to do the job he was elected to do. He shouldn't be sidetracked and lose focus by the continuous campaign being waged against him.

Geithner needs to stay focused on doing the job he was appointed to do and we don't need him resigning in the middle of a crisis. There will be all kinds of criticism if Geithner doesnt resign but hopefully, he and the President/Administration can use this as motivation to address our economic problems effectively.

In the meantime, after posting, I am going back and review that post about Geithner's appointment that had me screaming against Geithner.”

“As much as I don't like all the amendments and lack of a true public option in the absence of a Universal Healthcare Plan, I am extremely elated that the Democrats refused to allow themselves to be used like puppets by the Republicans. Now, if only they can truly unite and give the Party a solid foundation, they will have something to build on. For whatever reason, we have too many Democrats not supporting this President's initiatives. They should take advantage of the moment and help solve the problems we so sorely need solved. The sooner they realize that Healthcare Reform is a necessity and most of their constituents want or need it, the sooner they can move on to working on other economic problems. If they will get serious about the platform they rode in on, then we will begin to see this country get back on track.”

Commented Nov 20, 2009 at 18:43:20 in Business

“How do we survive in this country when Wall Street is allowed to waste billions of dollars while many Americans suffer from problems of poor healthcare, unemployment, foreclosure and other financial problems. Heck, i am still making tax payments to Uncle Sam on an income less than 120,000. yr for 2 people because there are no tax shelters for working class and individuals on fixed incomes. Medical expenditures are not taken into account fairly for income tax purposes.

If Citibank can have billions of dollars as a bailout, why can't I or any other American in need due to medical crisis or unemployment have a bailout of a measley $10,000.00? Of course we all know the answer. We don't matter. Just as many banks make more money from overdrafts penalties by the poor and working class rather than from the rich, Corporate America and the government will continue to stiff the poor and working class citizens.”

“What a great idea especially for the working class and disabled Americans who are on the brink of foreclosure or bankruptcy (or maybe both).

What is amazing to me is how the cost of everything keeps escalating but for those Americans who receive Social Security, the government will send them an additional $250.00 and think that it will cover cost of living expenses. What an insult!

We need to reorganize the Gray Panther Party or start a new movement for seniors and disabled individuals.”
Economists Tout Health Care Reform In Letter To Obama

Economists Tout Health Care Reform In Letter To Obama

Commented Nov 18, 2009 at 04:29:52 in Politics

“As i said before, it is a nice start, but why can't the economists see that adding a hefty excise tax to insurance providers doesnt begin to solve the major problem with delivery of healthcare services and it won't stop insurance companies from driving the cost of healthcare up. What would a Medicare Commission do? Will they set policy and help regulate. It would be a humongous chore to monitor and regulate these insurance companies the way they are set up now. We need uniformity at each level of available insurance plans. If a Commission is put in place, they should set various levels for competition. Each of these levels or choices should be uniform as far as costs and services provided are concerned . There shouldn't be more than 6 to 8 levels or plan choices if fair plans are going to be put in place. This will get us close to Universal Healthcare without a public option.

The insurance industry cannot continue down the same path. Real changes have to be made. Providers of healthcare services should have a more decisive role in patient care and services. Once a plan is in place and services to be provided are spelled out, then doctors shouldnt have to beg an insurance company to allow patient to have procedure. They write the order, send it in and receive verification that the procedure is an allowable charge. Insurance companies aren't qualified to review for approval although they might request a second opinion.”

Yinka Daniel - Elebute replied on Nov 18, 2009 at 10:54:34

“I'm very much supportive of the writeup. There is nothing as being shortsighted enough not to see the undercurrents that will flow when excise tax is levied on high-cost health insurance; by the way on what income level do you determine "high-cost health insurance" ?. Is it on those with income below $250,000 or those with higher incomes? Since the economists have produced their briefs without figures to go by, I think we should let that rest.

As for creating a commission for the Medicare, it will be a difficult situation to grasp, considering the complex nature of underwriting medical expenditures for millions of aging population and those with disabilities as well as creating a level ground for insurance companies interested in doing business with the commission. These scenerio will need several years with adequate projections of standards to be met before a universal healthcare can be said to fully involve the less opportuned to afford qualitative healthcare.”

“Guess what! Congress is too busy playing politics with the lives of Americans. They are not willing to get serious about solving the problem of unemployment. You don't believe it? Just look at the farce of the healthcare reform debates. All that matters to many in Congress is that they get re-elected or do whatever is necessary to please the lobbyists. Hmmm - these go hand in hand, don't they?

Then you have too many Republicans unwilling to do any real problem solving. All they are worried about is doing whatever they can to destroy the Obama Administration. They are on a good course for doing so but in the meantime, more and more Americans are suffering due to job losses and poor healthcare. The worse things get with the Repubs being "actively unengaged" in working on solutions, the more a lot of Americans can blame the Obama Administration for high unemployment and other problems. Of course when things get as bad as they can get, everyone will need to look for someone to blame and many Republicans will then become "actively engaged" in pointing out that things got worse on Obama's watch.

I am disgusted with our Corporate Politicians, butt he solution is not switching from one party to the next during elections. It will will come when we decide that we are going to take back our government. We have a crisis here people and we better get involved or all of us will suffer the consequences.”

We do not have open elections here, other parties in this country have limited forums and options for debate. This has to change.”

“My sentiments exactly. The Islamic Society could use their fundraising opportunity as a means of coaleasing with other non-Islamic organizations in helping Ft. Hood victims. I think that any time we have an opportunity to bring diverse groups together, it only increases understanding and contributes to unifying communities.

The Islamic Society might be of assistance as our troops disengage from the conflicts abroad. They could host dialogues on diversity and help with peer counseling.

I have been a supporter of our community's Race Relation Coalition and have participated in many enlightening dialogues.

We have many problems in our society that requires all of us working together in order to get the best results we can.”

“I don't believe that giving funds to the victims of FT Hood is a good idea. First of all it suggests that the Muslim community is to blame for this crime. Every time some nut goes postal, his religious community is not to blame. Secondly this simply gives the radical right more venom to label all Muslims as guilty by association. Nothing will satisfy these people other than the internment of all American Muslims. A few years ago a local Talk Show Host bullied a mosque to give a lot of money to a charity as if to say...." if you do this I will let up on your community." Charity is always a part of Islamic teachings and the donation was given without anything expected in return. A week later the talk show host let in to the Islamic community like never before. Such people will hate and fear Islam no matter what. The mosque was not well funded and this set them back in their community projects like feeding the homeless and a free medical clinic by several years.”
