Just because this lady encounter many relationship where the women approach end in failure doesn't mean her approaching first cause the failure in the relationship.

Mostly like he was interested in her in the first place but want some company. Just like how women go with men they are not interested in because of money.

The reason for these rules is that it gives women more power in the relationship. No wonder America has such a high divorce rate.”

My brother-in-law is from Guangzhou, and he is as accepted as American as anyone. I think that even if the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s had zero effect, we could not maintain a tri-racial society--the Asians would be assimilated into White society as the Irish and Italians had been.”

“I think the western version is very biased. The Chinese soldier did show restraint, even to the point that it embolden the man to climb up on the tank. The tank did try to swerve around the man. This was weeks protest. I don't think the US would allow weeks of protest in the US.

Just imagine that happening the US, the US police will shoot first question later. We all know about US police brutal of shooting people who are unarmed.

I also saw picture of burning army vehicle, which mean the army was attacked as well. It is a protest turn violent, and need to be put down.

Try protesting and attacking US army vehicle. Of course, the only picture we see is the iconic image of the tank man.”

xtiangodloki replied on Jun 05, 2009 at 09:19:18

“The army vehicle was more than burned down. The students actually killed a few soldiers. LA Times has many good pictures (including those taken by the author of this article).

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-tiananmen-pictures,0,2647279.photogallery?index=16

It's interesting that most publications do not publish this picture. If you read the caption for this picture, it stated that the students killed the soldier and were kicking his corpse. Maybe the students were angry because the soldier fired and killed first, but if you were a soldier who witnessed this it would be difficult to control the situation without resorting to further violence.

Both the Chinese and the Western media tried to make this into a black and white issue. It's difficult to argue that journalists were not biased from the selection of the pictures which were published. At the end of the day, the reality is a lot more complex than what the Chinese nationalists and the China-haters would like to believe.”

“America leads the world in hypocrisy and cowardice. That's all. Note that America, "freedom loving" America, "nation of laws" America, still has Gitmo open for business, and probably will continue to have a series of Gitmos in other countries. The "unary" powers of the presidency gave, and gives, the president authority to incarcerate persons indefinitely without trial while undergoing torture such as water boarding -- one of Torquemada's favorites. America will attack any country without provocation -- plans to attack Iraq were in place months before 9/11. And America incarcerates more of its citizens than any other country in the world. All this so cowardly Americans can "feel safe." America is a national security state where laws are overturned at the whim and amusement of the president. If that president is benevolent, he may pretend to place law above persons. If the president is someone like Cheney or Bush, adios Constitution. And Americans are too cowardly, or intellectually fettered to mount any credible rebuttal or protest. There will be another Bush or Cheney after Obama, and Americans will lay down for it again. And Tienanmen WILL not happen in the US. Americans are too stultified by corporate conservative media. Hard to have respect for a country that lays down first and gets up last.”

JudgeMoonbox replied on Jun 04, 2009 at 21:07:33

“"Just imagine that happening the US, the US police will shoot first question later. We all know about US police brutal of shooting people who are unarmed."

This is like saying that because the US isn't perfect, no American has any right to criticize China. Take the Kent State and Jackson State killings--six dead; and any coverup was not nearly as hegemonic. There was no pressure on May 4, 1990 to pretend it never happened.

"I also saw picture of burning army vehicle, which mean the army was attacked as well."

It's lamentable when a protest movement doesn't live up to an ideal of Gandhian nonviolence, but there has been zero evidence that the students were nearly as lethal as the Chinese Army.

"It is a protest turn violent, and need to be put down."

That is, if you believe that Li Peng has ESP. The putdown started long before the protest turned violent; and if victorsays had any concern for his own credibility, he would know that.”

“On the surface, the US might look like she has a more open society, because of Hollywood propaganda. The movies and shows like Friends are a fantasy. On an individual level, the US is least open. In the US, tolerance is only by law.

In China, tolerance is part of the culture. People are welcoming and curious in China. In the US, you could have a dead man lying in the street and people would ignore him for fear there might be consequences.

At worst, a gay Chinese might simply be ignored in China because China doesn't flaunt sexuality like the US. Even if people disapprove of gays, they would keep it to themselve, because it not polite to say stuff about people.

In the US, you have people who hates gays and act violently. Recente Gays in china are marrying in the street. There would be onlookers, but you won't see people with signs saying "Gays go to hell'.

China certainly has a more open society on a personal level. At least you know who your neighbors are in China. I can't say the same for the US.”

“CCTV and STAR is broadcasting another country award shows. Obviously, it has to be tailor to China.

How many time you see an Asian award show? I think highly hypocritical of the US to criticize China, when they gave the Academy award a wider audience, while Hollywood won't even hire Asian people for non-stereotypical roles.

In that sense, who has a more open society? US or China? In China and many Asian country, people are friendly to gays. They see sex orientation as secondary, while in the US - homophobia is widespread. In China, people won't reject you if you are gay, here you have people screaming gay go to hell.

China simply doesn't want to promote homosexually the way US promote sex, homosexualilty, lesbianism, and violences. It must be nice to be a rich country with smaller population. The West simply are too ignorant and arrogant to accept another point of views. IMO, it just another form of white man trying to bring civilization to the savage. It is the people who are outraged at the censorship you should be more focused on.

I agree with your points though. In my time in China I never met a single woman who had an issue with Homosexuals. Half the women I met had sexual experiences with other women. I never spoke much to men about the issue but still about 1/2 were accepting of gays (and one was). There is no law against homosexuality in China either. One company I worked for had a non-discrim policy that included sexual orientation. I could mention alot more about how tolerant chinese society is, but it would be hearsay as they are just stories Chinese friends had told me.

Remember, deviating from the norm often causes problems for other people and it is just rude to do that so don't deviate from the norm. Unless you can hide it well.”

The article is about how China censored a speech made about gay rights so that its viewers never saw or heard it. You can try to twist this around and say that the US is more censorious, but that is pretty dumb. Of course we have people screaming "gay go to hell", because there are a lot of dumb, crazy people in America, but here in America we don't put them in jail for saying dumb things!

In China, they will put you in prison for writing an anti-government blog. Here, you get no such treatment. I think that's a pretty clear indicator of where the rights are.

You try to twist it around the same way all bigots do -- by accusing us of "promoting" homosexuality or 'violences". You know that's a lie. Stop lying!

And if you hate Hollywood so much, what do you care if it doesn't hire Asian people for "non-stereotypical roles"? Maybe it's because in Hollywood, we let Asian people make their own movies however they like. People like Ang Lee and John Woo get hundreds of millions of dollars to make whatever film they want to make, and they don't get threatened by the Central Committee if they don't make it pro-US!

Ang Lee made a film about the U.S. Army brutally and unfairly attacking the Hulk -- is he in prison now? I missed that.”

“As gay rights slowly emerge in Asia, American style homophobia and violence is following. An emerging gay scene in Mumbai is a good example. Like many cultures around the world, many Asian cultures had a certain amount of tolerance for homosexual sex and relationships that was snuffed out when British Empire brought about Victorian era repression. Today, identifying oneself as openly 'gay' is a near impossibility in many places, consequently, there's not much gay bashing when there are no open targets. In general GLBT people in Asia do not enjoy more freedom than in the US. On the contrary, they are engaged in the same struggle that we engaged in decades ago starting with Stonewall when we were categorized as criminals, living on the edge of society.”

Replace the word “Romans” with the word “Israelis” and I think you have a fair assesment of the current situation.

Playing the victim is probably not the best defense since Israel has the 4th largest military and has total control over the Palestinians lives. While Israelis sip lattes in cafes in Tel Aviv, according to the UN, 70% of the children in Gaza are experiencing malnutrition. The seige of Gaza happened even before Hamas took over and continues to this day.

Israel could have agreed to a ceasefire but that was not in its plan. They wanted an excuse to attack Gaza and eliminate Hamas, recover their military “honor” after the loss in Lebanon and spill enough Palestinian blood to look politically strong and beat Netanyahu in next month’s election. There is too much evidence that Hamas would have agreed to a ceasefire but then that would have deprived the Israeli PR machine from promoting themselves as victims.”

What is stability anyway? Is stability lack of accountability? I like to compare China to a pot of boiling water with the lid on. At any moment it can blow off. This is not because of foreign influence (which is minimal) but more the result of failed polices. Now, how long will they keep the led on? They try hard with censorship, etc. However, we know from other cases in history, even complete isolation may not help much if the breaking point is reached.”

Fair Trade Suffers When China Censors The Internet. It's Not Just A Human Rights Issue.

Commented Jan 08, 2009 at 14:39:23 in Politics

“As a minority, I think China has every right to censor the internet. US used the media and their capital as a subversive tool to undermine foreign country and to sell their version of "Americanisn" (which is just another word for a "white centric worldview"). The US, under the pretext democracy, wants to expand markets for capital, to flood the country with US capital and control the local economy, and to subject locals under foreign rule. Democracy is long taint by conolonialism.

China is looking out for its own interest in censoring the internet. China learned her lesson of Taiping Rebellion and the Opium war, where Jesuit and Christian missionary acts as Western imperialism's liason. To allow free reign to foreign invasion of the media will pollute the minds and ruin a country of 1.3 billion when there is not middle class to withstand the onslaught of Americanization.

Another reason is US produce 90% of internet pornography in the world that is racists against Asian and misogynistic. Look at the pornography and the filth that US produce.

The internet will be free in China when China becomes as competitive as the West to withstand the Western propaganda machine.

How many of you actually understand China's worldview? The problem with the West is its self-righteous and rejection of non-white's concern. In another world, the West is racist in its self-righteous and promotion of Western democracy.”
