Why I Have Some Empathy for Balloon Boy's Dad

“We had two copycat hoaxes in our area alone in Australia. On the weekend, a guy called a mayday saying his boat was sinking and caused the full operation of the sea search and rescue. Today someone said there was a shootout and hostage taking at a suburban house.bringing out the tactical response team. Both hoaxes . It just dominoes all over the world. Any other reports?”

“I was highly amused at US media talking about the IOC ganging up on America and that they are anti-American. All I can say is, America get over yourself, there are better countries in the world than you if you care to look beyond your xenophobia. I wonder how many years it will take for the eventual collapse of the USA if people don't allow Obama to continue his vision.”

“It is true, that modern society ignores its own family members and cares more about celebrity. Make no mistake even Muslims respect the corpse and have a burial before sundown, but here, Jackson's corpse, yes he is now a CORPSE has been freakified just as much as he was in life. James Brown's corpse lay in his home for two weeks before he was interred, MJ' s has reached his expiry date, but his family still seem to want to toss around the corpse for more celebrity worship. Bury the corpse already and give MJ some dignity he never had while he was alive. it won't surprise me if he is mummified and interred in some glass case in the Jackson mansion.”

What's Your Number? Understanding Your Enneagram Type
Commented May 27, 2009 at 14:13:59 in Living
“I haven't gone into the enneagram other than label myself as a 4. but whether to hitch my wagon and start reading extensively in the hope it will change my life is another thing. In the 90s I read hundreds of these books, researching extensively including a great deal of Jung. To me it all boiled down to one word(thanks to Jung.) AWARENESS. You can't change the way the wind blows in your life, there is no cure, but being aware of things happening to you, helps you survive . On a cynical note, after reading hundreds of these self help books I began to notice a couple of things. If it was American it always had god as the main helper, if you don't believe in him well you are screwed. Secondly, I began to see a great deal of books were just skimming off ideas from other books-what a way to make a fast buck. The most recent book by Ekhart Tolle was one such book. Not a single idea in his book was original, I heard it all before. I do recommend the basic elements of Jung though-archetype, the shadow, anima, animus, collective unconscious, are all useful to explain the modern world.”

Gen. Petraeus Implements Military Surge Against Four Somali Pirates in a Lifeboat
Commented Apr 10, 2009 at 13:35:52 in World
“52 hostages. now where in history have I heard that number before. The Somali pirates demand is safe passage out of there WITH the captain so that they can carry on the ransom deal. Now that is front. Also, bringing in the other hostages is an incredible strategy. Don't underestimate men who have been driven to piracy from a lawless failed country where all their fishing has been stolen. These are not only desperate men, but cold and strategic, because that is how things go down in that part of the world. This is naval hard graft, what a navy does, not sit in the Gulf watching the transit of oil. The naval strategists better be hard at the drawing board at this because this is guerilla warfare on the high seas, and you know what happens when the US might confronts guerillas-they fail.”

“As an Australian, we regard New Zealand as that kid brother, we get pissed off when they outsmart us. We do not like them when they beat us at sport and we are envious that we would never have thought to create such superior entertainment as LOTR and FOTC. It is typical to see an American interpretation in broad brush strokes, oh, it must be about sex. It has far more subtle humour than that, and I'd like to keep it as a one- up antipodean in joke thanks. It is good to see some Americans get it and that is heartening. Murray was on live Australian TV in the last week, and his look and timing and his selection of remarks just cracked me up.”

“Just had to add belatedly. I'm from Heath Ledger's home town, and I thought the ledger family's speech was tasteful albiet sad. Sorry about the Baz Luhrmann Top Hat number it was cheesy. Hugh is a great talent and did what he could, but bring back the stand up comedians ie Tina Fey .What annoyed me most was, I stay away from all media until the show starts at least nine hours after the event here, only to find they severely cut it. I missed Ben Stiller, Tina Fey, Steve Martin, Bill Maher and lots of other stuff. Next year, I'm going to watch it live online which is not as half as good as in front of the TV with the popcorn. Next year is going to be compettitive. I tip Viggo Mortensen for The Road and Hilary Swank for Amelia.”

Do you honestly think they will hand this over to Franken? Never underestimate the power of their evil. They'll keep it in the courts for years. unless Al or someone can tell us exactly when he is going to be officially elected, I don't believe the Repugs will give up at all. If they have held it up for three months, they are not going to stop now.”
Joaquin's New Role?
Commented Feb 13, 2009 at 11:18:09 in Entertainment
“Having worked with professional actors and in the mental health field, Joaquin's performance was about 80% accurate . There were parts of it I didn't think was that of a disturbed person acted or not. On the other hand, many actors have personality disorders and can readily pull out some set pieces. Method actors are a pain in the arse because like on Letterman, it is only interesting to the actor and not those around them. Remember Daniel Day Lewis insisting on staying in the wheelchair while off the set and wanted to be carried up the stairs etc. Bale's rant I believe was because he was still in John Connor mode,so, where are we with this performance? Affleck is probably going to use it not merely as a transition between actor and rap artist, but and if he is smart, make wider thematic choices. If Phoenix was truly disturbed, then it would have shown up earlier than this. I can't imagine it is a delayed reaction to River's death.(Although I always wondered if he really grieved properly over him). He is however, a daring actor . Stay tuned for the next episode.”

Bale continues to fire up people, i've go into so many arguments. Phelps will fall on his flippers once again. Stay tuned. ARod's steroid test will probably start up the next week. The GOP's stupidity will run for four years i'm afraid. Obama's got to pull out some emegency measures, so his first press conference will feature large this week. you forgot Jessica Simpson, she will be tortured again as the scapegoat of the month. and probably Lindsay's lesbian sagas.”

“I love it when people come on and say it was the baby boomers fault. Please remember Obama is a baby boomer. Please distinguish between conserative baby boomers and those for whom your lifestyle would never have happened except for those who went before you. Where are the Gen X role models? What are you doing for the country? Don't say the BB's have got all the jobs no-one over 40 can get a job. I've got a feeling Gen X will be ovewhelmed very quickly by Gen Y and Gen 00. Every generation feels angst to their elders. Can you imagine what it was like living under the conservative authoritarian generation of WW2?”

“It is is the 'collective fever 'that is interesting, how we are carried on an emotional cloud be it by fear or hope. That thought struck me in the casual way we talk now of getting rid of Gitmo, such talk would never have been on our lips a few years ago. It's been an incredible turn of the century, I believe we will see what the 21st Century is really made of in the next couple of years. I expect to be swept off my feet with incredible change, when Obama hits the floor running and enacts very swift changes. If not, then my dream that I had back in 1977, that we were moving forward and advancing civilisation, only then to be crushed by ultra conservative forces who resist change at all cost. I'm tired of having waited for so long for the civilized world that I want to live in. If we are in such a fever of hope at the moment, because it looks as if it's going to get worse before it gets better, the seeds for fear will raise its ugly head again. Let's hope that Obama fever was not some kind of ghost dance before civilisation collapses altogether.”

Astrologically speaking, the Baby Boom generation ended when Pluto entered Virgo (without any more retrograding back into Leo) in 1958. Love it or hate it, that explanation makes more sense in my own personal context, so I'm stickin' to it.
I don't see Barack as a Baby Boomer. I consider him to be, like myself, an "early GenX'er."”
