I'm really proud of our surgeons and hospital system. Thanks to an Australian woman Moira Kelly who looks after Asian orphans, she brought them to Australia.”

In a related story, the soldier that was awarded a bravery medal in the same battle where Sabi disappeared was Trooper Donaldson .It is the highest military medal the Victoria Cross and he had an audience with Queen Elizabeth only yesterday. Sabi will get a heroes welcome when he returns that's for sure.”
Gordon Brown, British PM, Faces "Bullying" From British News Corp Paper The Sun
Commented Nov 12, 2009 at 10:54:24 in World
“If you put the mother's grief in perspective, her reaction of unbridled anger is common, but to place it in the public arena for the ghouls to devour does not respect her dead son, nor bring him back. When she passes the anger stage and goes through depression to acceptance she may realise her action did no good for her son. Brown inherited the wars and he didnt conscript him into the military. Where was the anger in US when the dead sons and daughters were returned home undercover and almost by stealth. Where were the hand written letters from Bush? Brown has done an excellent job of leading Britain through the recession and my observation is that he is a fine man. The Brits are too willing to whinge about anything and everything and their bible is the one written by Murdoch. Do they really think the conservatives will bring freedom and riches for the msses? You will be back to complaining once again and dare I say encouraged by your old uncle Rupert. How can one man do so much harm in so many countries. Britain, USA and Australia. He knows how to tap into our reptilian brains where stupidy overrides reason. The mother has been used and maybe one day she will feel some shame for having used her son that way.”
Windows 7 Upgrade: Microsoft Prays For Fresh Start After Vista Debacle
Commented Oct 22, 2009 at 12:07:41 in Technology
“I just ran the Windows 7 advisory download through my Toshiba laptop with Vista. If I want to upgrade now I lose 5 months of One Care subscription. I have to double my RAM and there seems to be a number of Toshiba compatibility issues I've got to investigate. Having had both laptop and Vista for two and a half years, I haven't had any problems this year. I'm going to wait and see the feedback on Windows 7 for the next 7 months before I make any decision. Agree Vista users should get a free upgrade. it's really difficult to know how much things will change with an upgrade. It feels like Microsoft are just reorganising the deck chairs on the Titanic . I wonder how long the Xpers can hold on. It's a bit like buying all the last film rolls for a Super 8 camera.”

Jessica Watson Sets Off To Sail Around The World, Break Record
Commented Oct 19, 2009 at 10:21:36 in World
“I live on the Westen Australian coast near the port city of Fremantle. We have had many sea rescues down here in the Indian Ocean and Southern Ocean. Most of the rescues were of experienced seapersons who have gotten into strife. It is a very dangerous mission that is undertaken by the Austalian Navy-and expensive. I only hope, if Jessica gets into trouble it will be in Australian waters because we have experienced rescue crew. She is trying to break the record of Jesse Martin, an Australian who successfully navigated the globe at age18. And there was a local guy a few months older who did it first. She is the youngest female. Her parents should be worried every step of the way and prepare for the worst. It doesn't matter how experienced she is or how Immortal she's feeling which is the common trait of 16 year olds, the ocean is an unknown pit of hell and anything can happen. My biggest worry is, if she encounters other boats out there, as a young girl she is fair game out on the high seas. The only thing that will get her home will be pure luck, her experience and ego won't.”

Olbermann Slams Palin For "Death Panel" Claim, Calls Her Dangerously Irresponsible (VIDEO)
Commented Aug 13, 2009 at 03:26:12 in Media
“As someone with a chronic illness I'd be living on the street or dead if I was a US citizen. Thank god I live in a country with universal healthcare- free hospital treatment, subsidised pharmaceuticals- free GP. It beats me why the land of the free just can't say yes. it seems to me Palin's people are the ones who would benefit from universal healthcare the most but they are throwing away any opportunity to save themselves. It's not a death panel that's a death wish.”

“True. I think the GOP is using the age-old 'Socialist' 'Communist' monster to frighten the mostly uneducated sections of American society in this healthcare debate.
The arguments that come from the GOP and Palin and her non-intellectual ilk are simply staggering in their lack of rationale, logic and reasoning.
Dont these people know that most of the more successful economies are a combination of capitalism and socialism?
The irrational blindness floors me. The shocking ignorance... its incomprehensible.”

“But that's exactly what's so funny. The everyday person would benefit greatly with reformed health care. I know, I had good insurance, was injured, had failed surgery, could no longer work, lost insurance, exhausted COBRA, denied all health insurance for pre-existing conditions, went to TX Risk Pool ($425/month $5000ded.) got Breast Cancer, spent $. Had to have help to pay for RX. ($8100 for one dose of Neulasta needed 8'xs) THIS IS TRUE! 70% of US bankruptcies due to medical reasons.
WAKE UP! I have a friend living on the streets due to no insurance and an arm injured in a fall so he can't work. In any other ind. country he would be taken care of. Less stress, you can change jobs, cheaper. What do the insurance co's produce? Our costs are so high because they make profit off of peoples illness and misery. We need non-profit, non-corporate universal, single-payer health care.”

“No you'd hopefully be smart enough to enroll on medicare disability ans SSI, there are not people dying in the streets here. Be lucky you don't have an illness that needs immediate attention or you'd find yourself in a pine box by the time your number is called from the long que. Unless you were able to fly here like your fellow countrymen to get treatment.”

“I'm Australian and on top of my travel wish list is a biking trip through the US's national parks. Can anyone recommend the best parks for this?”
ScreenName05 replied on Aug 12, 2009 at 17:54:02
“I would suggest starting with the best - Yosemite the Queen of America's parks - there is nothing else in the world like it. You can start anywhere from a mile to 50 miles west of the main park entrance into Yosemite Valley (about 4500 ft above sea level) - this takes you along the Merced River through an ever increasing mountain range until you reach the Valley. This part is mostly flat, a tour of the Valley only takes a couple hours to ride, but it will probably take all day as you will be required to stop every feww hundred yards or so to gawk in amazement. After that you can either head south through the park - very tough ride that will go up and down 3,000 or 4,000 ft. for 50 miles. Or you can go north and east to Toulmee Meadow - also a very hard climb that eventually flattens out at 8000 to 9000 feet above sea level.
After that almost every other park will be okay but not quite as good.”

“Here are two I can think of...
Death Valley in cold Winter months. Mostly flat and VERY long north-south paved roads with very little car traffic. I think they have a triathlon race there once a year that starts in DV and ends at Mt. Whitney portal.
Also, I think Haleakala National Park has tours going downhill off the volcano. It would be one hard ride going up! Do a search on "Haleakala National Park bike tours".”

Also Arches NP, Capitol Reef NP, Bryce NP and Zion NP - all withing a few driving hours of each other. The drive from Bryce to Capitol Reef is amazing.”

“The Beatles definitely saved me. I'd come home from school in the 60s so depressed sometimes I'd want to end it, but I could put a Beatles' record on my newfangled "Circle Of Sound" stereo record player, and life was good again.
I lived for every new release, and was never dissappointed.
The few folks on here who say "Get over it," have no idea what their music means to some of us.
That doesn't mean I'm locked in the 60s, however. The eclectic nature of The Beatles' music opened me up to all kinds of sounds, and I'm still on the hunt for new music to this day.
Nothing will ever quite match hearing those iconic Beatles songs for the first time, however.”

If successful they could have killed some elite troops. Striking at the heart, so to speak. I'm thankful we haven't had a major terrorist attack on our soil. Sadly, these suspects come from immigrant groups, who will now be regarded with greater suspicion. Unlke the US we don't have home grown militia, religious nuts, tea baggers, birthers and what not disrupting public meetings. btw we have universal health care so no complaints there.”
