“Howard Dean (a physician who presided over true healthcare for all under 18 in his state of Vermont) says of the bill, "The bill was supposed to give Americans choices about what kind of system they wanted to enroll in," he said. "Instead, it fines Americans if they do not sign up with an insurance company, which may take up to 30 percent of your premium dollars and spend it on CEO salaries."
I'm afraid this bill will be such a failure that it will actually slow down real reform when everyone figures out how bad it really is. Indeed, perhaps that is the goal.”

“If you believe that the goal is to slow down health reform, not much I can say to that, except I think you are wrong. I see that Howard uses the words (may take up), which means he is guessing the worst. I do not believe Obama would go for this unless something down the line will be better, and there is no other way to get there at the moment. Delay now and it wil be another 25 yrs. before anything happens. The supposedly most poweful nation on the planet with the worst health care system in the developed world, that is not disputable. The question is why?'$$$”

“Car insurance companies are private and for profit, and mandatory, so I can accept the same requirements for health insurance.
I lived in Canada and had occasion to benefit from their health care system and yes it would be great if the USA had that kind of health coverage, the kind that the Republicans say is no good.
I also lived in Denmark that " socialist country" and had occasion to benefit from their health programs, excellent. Same thing in Thailand.T he USA health coverage is more about making money than health care. This health reform is a compromise, true, but over the years it will get better. If not now, when? In the year 3,000?”

“To all the people who always say that Obama had no choice, he's up against too much, he doesn't draft the legislation, etc, etc
If he is so powerless, then why are you happy that he's there at all, why not just vote for any random person?
You can't try to say that he's the one behind every good thing that happens, and every time something bad happens, claim he couldn't have done anything to change it.
Bush pushed all kinds of changes through, and unfortunately Obama has decided to preserve and extend most of those changes, extraordinary rendition, FISA, the Patriot Act, ignoring habeus corpus, etc, etc.
How is it that we all universally acknowledge these Bush-initiated programs as bad, but when Obama continues, renews, or extends these programs it is no longer bad or he somehow doesn't have the power to change them?”

“Good questions, vorpalmusic. I've wondered that myself throughout these past months.
Obama said a day or so ago, after the senate vote, that this senate health insurance bill was a "defeat for special interests. " I was stunned. It's incredible that he has the AUDACITY to say that about this huge give-away to the insurance companies, but, just as incredible, a lot of Obamabots will probably believe this line. Hints of his re-election campaign in 2012.”
