I grew up in that school. And IO still say it. Everyone is entitled to keep the fruits of their labor. Anyone trying to enjoy the fruits of anothers labor i s promoting slavery. A free, unregulated market would wiper out poverty in 10 years.

I also grew up in the school that states: You should pay for what you get.

If you benefit from an educated work force; a safe and stable environment; roads blah, blah, blah than you need to pay for them.”

“This is a bit illusory.

There has been a greater concentration of wealth, but less individual mobility within that 'pyramid'.

Moreover, there is less economic mobility in the US than there is in many other countries. (You'll have to do your own research because I'm working from memory and won't toss out numbers.)

In the US a person has a greater tendency to stay on the side of the tracks to which s/he was born.”

We cannot expect them to 'play' nicely, or even fairly.”

“The reason we have to deal with SP is she has become emblematic of the lunatic fringe, the nut-jobs, who are peppered throughout the US society.

These folks love her because "she's just like them". John McCain in his lust for power gave her the national stage. Liberals and other sentient beings pointed and laughed bringing her to prominence.

She is like the itch that people love to scratch, but now is becoming a festering sore. She is well past the point of ignoring her and she will go away.”

“Yeah, our exalted president, and those pushing for this plan are not forthright with the changes that will come. For example, by increasing competition in the health care insurance business those companies will be less able to skim off the cream before the bills are paid.

This will be a down side to spending by these companies in acquisitions of other business, high end commodities, and quality time spent with family, friends and colleagues at mountain retreats or oceanside paradise.

Come on, people...think of the children who will be deprived of their trust funds.”

swift goat pet for truth replied on Aug 09, 2009 at 21:43:47

“Increasing competion in health care insurance is a fantasy.
They have zero reason to do it, and every reason not to do it.

Or do you mean, competition like when you are in a hospital with a heart attack, you need to shop around for the cheapest heart surgeon?”

“Go to these townhall meetings with a counter-protest;

Goofball signs and madcap attire. Stripes with plaids; hair in curlers; food-stained T-shirts; Remember, you're inbred, or ignorant, or a half bubble off plumb.

"The Earth IS Flat- why does Obama hide it?"

"Moon Shot Hoax."

"Obama Reads Minds"

"Hawaii is not the US"

"Chicken is yummy"...what ever. Have fun. Wear foil hats.

Alternate yelling "I want my country back" with "I want ice cream"

You might as well make ridicule fun.”

“Wadda, I actually think this is a great idea! So when the news covers these idiots, you'll see someone with a sign that reads "Dingos ate my baby" or "bigfoot is real" or Fox Mulder's "I want to believe" poster. All this almost instantly discredits them and shows the world what a bunch of weirdo nutjobs they all are.

Brilliant.”

I Was Treated to a Foreign First World Public Health Care System

Commented Jul 14, 2009 at 23:36:50 in Politics

“Ihad this gnawing thought that I had an ulcer. I was also having mild bouts of vertigo. It was going to be something like a 500 dollar bill to have it investigated in the US where I'm 'self-insured'.

I toughed it out for a while and then found myself in Australia.

I figured I had better have it looked at.... The visit to the doctor cost AU$50 (~US$35 at the time, 2006). I got $12 back from Medicare reimbursement.

The test h. pylori test for the ulcer was covered. The CT scan of my head for the vertigo was covered.

I was given a 6 week prescription for a proton pump inhibitor that set me back the equivalent of a six-pack of Australian beer, and told to take a vacation.

It turns out that if stress of the US system gets to you, Australia is a great place to take a vacation -and- as a model for health care.”

“In Australia, my wife obtained a 3 month supply of a prescription medication that was going to run out while we were in the US. It cost about US$150 (same day doctor visit and medication).

She went to a US doctor ($100 and 3 day wait) to get a refill. The price at the pharmacy was $1100!

She checked into mail order from a Canadian pharmacy. The cost, with shipping, was US$180.

Shipping doesn't cost that much. I was outraged that the Canadians were gouging her nearly 20 bucks just for the medication.

I have worked in, and have been treated by, the US health care system. I have participated in the Australian system. Those who claim the US has "the best" health care system do not know about which they speak.

I tire of ignorant, ill informed, or self-serving opinion being passed off as good governance.”

smileatfear replied on Jul 13, 2009 at 11:28:19

“Thank you. Any of us who have had experiences outside of the US system know the US system is not "the best." I get so tired of people claiming that all the medical research and breakthroughs are coming from the US too, and that is why we pay more than anyone else. A tremendous amount of research goes on in other countries and they are using more advanced techniques than many hospitals and drs. here use. Hope you all are sending your personal stories to your senators and congressmen. They are the ones who really need to hear from us.”

The Untold Susan Boyle Story

Commented Apr 19, 2009 at 21:49:25 in Entertainment

“That is, not that it didn't happen, but it is being marketed.

The You-tube video was a production.

It was known that Susan Boyle could sing before she waltzed out on the stage. One doesn't get to perform for a live audience, in that type of setting, as a stone-cold walk-on.

This in no way denigrates the talent that Susan Boyle has. Her talent is real. The situation is contrived and we are being played by Simon Cowell.”

MancRat replied on Apr 20, 2009 at 05:11:12

“Why run Cowell down?

Google for Svengali. there are a lot of parallels. he is also possessed of a gift for making just what the public wants to see and hear, and in that respect he "owns" Saturday night TV in the UK and some prime TV real estate in the USA.

Don't knock the guy for being good at what he does. For someone who was bankrupt not that long ago, he's done an amazing rags to riches routine on himself as well.”

There. Talk about stimulating the economy.”
