Mr. President: I Challenge You To Quit!

“Why is this such a big issue? So what, he smokes. That's his decision. It's not illegal. He doesn't drink. And to have to deal with all the stuff he has to clean up you have to let him have at least one vice. Smoke away Mr. President. Smoke away.”
JakeRhodes replied on Nov 06, 2009 at 11:01:30
“Yes it's not illegal but at the same time Obama is a role model to millions of people, not just Americans either. After all the anti-smoking campaigns and movements it's just not "on message" for the President to be a smoker.”
SadieNardini replied on Nov 06, 2009 at 10:59:52
“You're sorely missing the point.
I love President Obama. Like, LOVE. I'm making an example of him not to attack the poor guy for a few smokes here and there, but to spotlight the bigger issue. Since you don't see it, let me inform you:
The "big issue" is that smoking kills more Americans than any other coping mechanism we choose. It hooks our kids, or dads, ourselves. It wreaks havoc on the bodies and lives of millions of people.
I don't care what we each have to deal with in life, president or not. You can deal more effectively with things by making the choice NOT to smoke, and the positive benefits of your choice multiply, not diminish. So, under your logic, it's the stress that makes him smoke, and under mine, I'm asking everyone to turn the tables on stress, so that it's under YOUR control--and not allow IT to control you.
This is the point.”

“Point taken. Fact is the FDA should stop it from being sold if it's proven to have cancer causing carcinogens.”

“Is there a reason why we have an FDA? They received over $2 billion dollars this year and they can't stop this from happening. Or restrict Kentucky Fried Chicken from selling cancer causing grilled chicken.

“The FDA while nowhere near perfect, does keep us safe from a lot of stuff. We have over 3oo million people in this country and most of them eat ground beef in some shape or form yet only 70k people get sick from that strain of ecoli each year and only 52 die from it each year. Now I agree that that is still too many but let's give credit where credit is due. Can you imagine what our food supply would be like if there were no rules concerning food quality at all? I can and it is scary. We need to stop being so all or nothing in this country. Just because the FDA screws up sometimes and accepts bribes does not mean we should scrap the whole thing. Just because the Government can't run everything perfect does not mean they should not run anything.”
letsbepeaceful replied on Nov 03, 2009 at 13:07:11
“Why do you say the 'cancer-causing' grilled chicken? It's not over-grilled, which is where the problem is (in the charring), and it's better for you than the fried, for sure.”

Arianna Explains Why Joe Biden Should Resign On CNN's The Situation Room (VIDEO)
Commented Oct 15, 2009 at 11:06:23 in Politics
“Why does Pres. Obama always want to split the difference? He never takes a stance. He doesn't take a stance on Wall Street, Health Care, Afghanistan. Instead his solution is to be bipartisan or go half way even though the clear and correct choice would be to take a firm stance for or against something. This guy has no backbone whatsoever. He's afraid of confrontation and it's disturbing. We went from a bully in President Bush to a capitulator in President Obama.”
sugarpops replied on Oct 15, 2009 at 11:24:11
“You are half right, the bully part. President Obama is a negotiator. He works with deliberation he does not make snap decisions or base decisions on preconceptions. It takes longer to get things right then to blindly follow a set of personal prejudices. It is hard work and I for one feel much safer with a thoughtfull leader than an ignorant leader.”

That Didn't Take Long: Insurance Industry Breaks Promise To President Obama
Commented May 15, 2009 at 12:13:34 in Politics
“Is there a quid pro quo going on here? Did Pres. Obama promise the insurance industry "no single payer program" if they agreed to cut $2 trillion?
During his town hall meeting yesterday the first question was about single payer. Although Obama didn't put it on the table he opened the door for it. All of a sudden today the insurance companies are taking back their promise.
I smell a rat. Backdoor dealings. Something Pres. Obama criticized Hillary Clinton for when she tried to get universal health care in the 90's. And where is this transparency? Why isn't there a representative for the public trust in those meetings? What happened to his promise of holding the meetings on CSPAN???”
