“I never thought that I would join the ranks of those beating up on the TSA. but a week ago I was told to step aside when the buckles on my suspenders triggered the metal detector. No big deal. I was told to stand aside for a pat down. I am an old man with a medical condition that gives me a big belly and I need suspenders to hold up my pants. Long story short, my wife and I missed our plane. My wife was beside herself trying to get a TSA person to give me a pat down. An agent finally gave me a pat down that I thought was reserved for FBI Most Wanted criminals. A Metro police officer got involved to help keep my wife from being arrested. Yeah, the TSA could have done that if they wanted. We missed the plane.
On our return trip, same circumstances, the same thing happened. The TSA agent said. "The metal detector reacted to your suspenders. Here, let me wand the three brass buckles. OK, sir you're free to go". WHA? Same agency, same situation, one agent has a good time making us miss our plane, the other agent speeds me through a focused wanding in less than a minute. WHA?”

“Another fingernail symptom that was not mentioned is "cupping" of the nail, that is, a turning down of the tip of the nail that is noticeable when you look at the nail from the side. Oddly, this symptom may be indicative of a very serious lung disease called Pulmonary Fibrosis. This is an incurable, untreatable, ultimately fatal disease characterized by shortness of breath. Often lung transplantation is the only possible course of action. See your doctor and a pulmonologist. I almost waited too long. www.ipf.com for information”

“Interesting you say that. I have both seen and been told that curved/rounded downwards nails on fingers, thumbs or toes indicate emphysema. So I'd guess any serious lung failure of a certain type shows in the nails. For a long time it was an "old wives' tale" that the hind hooves of a horse having outward bowed front walls meant lung weakness, but it has proven true, like so many of those old myth-truths.”
“I don't remember seeing anything about guns or shooting in the article. In the several DECADES that this has been going (which I certainly don't condone) have there been any shooting incidents? You gun control whack-a-dos don't miss any opportunity even if you have to make up your own story line.”
“Thanks for your thoughtful response. I was not offended, I just take every opportunity to point to the importance of organ donation. God bless your brother. I'm glad that I don't have (or didn't have) COPD, as serious as my condition is (IPF - Ideopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis), I think that advanced COPD is harder for the waiting patient to deal with.
EVERYONE! Be sure that you are listed as an organ donor. Check your driver's license for a tiny heart symbol or go on line to www.beadonor.org.”
