Many Issues With Tragedy at Ft. Hood -- A "Muslim Problem" not One of Them, FOX News

Commented Nov 07, 2009 at 09:16:40 in Media

“If the shooter would have been Irish American would FOX and the rest of the talking heads speak the same way? The military is like the rest of American, it's a mixed pot of people but people at FOX won't say anything like that. FOX and the rest like to wave their flag, eat apple pie and call themselves a true patriot but the fact is they are chickenhawks who don't and never served this nation. Their message is hate and they use their soapbox to try to spread it but what do you expect they are own by a non-American who pushes his own message and the sheep who watch and follow are to blind to see they support an un-American cause.”

Jorge Al-Subbad replied on Nov 07, 2009 at 10:57:48

“If an Irish-American walked up to a British affiliated company or office in our country and committed an act of violence I HOPE that talking heads somewhere would jump to the conclusion that this person might be animated by the situation in Northern Ireland. It might turn out to be wrong.. it might make Irish Americans upset that an issue that concerns many of them could possibly draw negative attention to them. It might even draw political conclusions from both sides of the issue.. that the media is just covering the story because it sympathizes with British occupation of Dublin OR that Brian Kilmeade is in the tank for the Irish.

Why on Earth would anyone be informationally NEUTRAL about why somebody just shot 40 people? Unlike a person's color or eye shape, what IS relevant is the BELIEF SYSTEM THEY SUBSCRIBE TO!!! It is possible to point out that the vast and overwhelming majority if Muslims in the world are not committing acts of violence. It is also possible to point out that a small fraction of Muslims, millions out of more than a billion, are engaged and sympathetic towards an ongoing attack on western power centers. You don't know which Muslims are included in this group but it's always possible that, among the set of people who might wish to take violent action in America, Muslims who believe that it is wrong for Muslims to fight other Muslims will react violently.”

squarebird replied on Nov 07, 2009 at 10:08:39

“Well, yes, actuallly all of the media does exactly that - remember the extrapolations of Tim McVeigh onto every while male in America? Especially those who shared any of his convictions? (His convictions were not the problem, it was his actions - as would be the case here). So do NOT single out FOX News. It was MSNBC and MSNBC alone that could not wait to break its pledge to release the name of the suspect once it was revealed to be a Muslim name. FOX admirably was the very last to do so - and only after the military lifted its block.”

You remind me of an Airforce Captain up in Fort Drum who speaks of all he has done and all the sacrifices that he had to endure in his service while serving behind a desk statoned in the hositle enviroment of Florida while never deploying anywhere. He speaks ill of Obama while at the same time kissing the water that GW Bush walk on. Us army folk have a term for people like that and its called POGE or REMF. You sound just like him.”

The Weakness of Liz Cheney

Commented Oct 19, 2009 at 18:05:39 in Politics

“Liz Cheney and her father as well as the rest of the NeoCons have this belief that war is the only answer no matter what as long as they or their famly are not the one fighting in it. Those of us who have served trained for war but are not quick to go to war. Unlike the NeoCons we know that war is suppose to be an act of last resort. Maybe if we put Liz and her daddy and the rest of the Neocons in uniform and put them in the middle of any war they seem to love, they might see the light but I really doubt it. So they will always stay behind waving their flag, stuffing apple pie into their face cheering go team go right up to the point where we come injuried and wounded upon which they just turn their backs once again to go the other way and then they have the nerve to call themselves Patriots who bleed red, white and blue but fact is their real color is yellow.”

a6intruder replied on Oct 19, 2009 at 21:02:42

“No one - NeoCon or NeoCom - thinks that war is the only answer. But, sometimes, it's a necessary answer. War settled the issue of slavery pretty well, eh? And where is Hitler - the Kaiser - Joe Stalin - the city fathers of Carthage? War is a tool to be used sparingly, hopefully, but used with ruthless determination to win when necessary. Any other means is just a waste of life. If it comes to them or me - I vote me every time.”

Veterans: Newest Addition to the Health Care Debate

Commented Aug 18, 2009 at 08:49:50 in Politics

“Thousands of veterans in South Florida may have been exposed to hepatitis and HIV because of contaminated equipment after getting colonoscopies at the Miami Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, officials announced Monday.
http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Hepatitis-C/VA-Colonoscopy-Health-Scare/show/795709
Along with the positive HIV test, the VA says 16 other veterans have tested positive for hepatitis B and hepatitis C at two VA facilities. Of all the 17 positive text results, 11 were at the VA's Murfreesboro, Tennessee, facility, and six were from the VA's Augusta, Georgia, hospital. Thousands of other veterans are being tested at the VA hospital in Miami.
The Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia, also said it had "recently notified 1,200 veterans they may have been exposed to infection when undergoing ear, nose and throat (ENT) procedures between January and November of 2008."

Now the Philadelphia VA Medical Center is the focus of a failure of oversight and problems in prostate cancer care. As many as 92 veterans received incorrect doses of radiation for their prostate cancer treatment.

If VA is equal or better than private or public then everyone is screwed. My care has been substandard. They need to offer Tri-Care to those vets who want it.”

GardenerNorCal replied on Aug 18, 2009 at 11:46:48

“Those were horrible mistakes made, but I am sure if one looked similar mistakes have been made under private programs and facilities as well. Thing is they don't get the press, and under tort reform even fewer of them would be litigated.

Tricare is available to all retired military personnel and dependents. Are you proposing that all veterans without reference to their term of services or disability status receive Tricare for life?

Thing is a veteran no matter what ther length of service can walk into a VA facility and receive treatment. If you were proposing that veterans who are not disabled and volutarily severed their service before retirement eligibility be given the option of purchasing a prorated Tricare coverage it might be doable. But to hand out Tricare for life to every veteran is not current policy and not currently budgeted.”

MED1025 replied on Aug 18, 2009 at 11:31:58

Investing In Veterans

Commented Aug 12, 2009 at 19:49:26 in Politics

“Yes all stated is great but with that said how about doing two other things. First raise the disabilty compensation by the 25 percent that the Veterans disabilty commission recommended over two and half years ago, something that has not been done since the 1940's. Second offer Tri-Care to those disabled veterans who want it so they can get good medical care from outside the VA. This would do two things give vets a choice and it would lighten the load at VA hospitals so maybe they can improve the care to vets who choose to use them. By doing these two things it will show veterans of the past they they are not just throw away veterans and their sacrifise for this country has not been forgotten.”

We Need Sestak (and More Vets) in the Senate

Commented Aug 11, 2009 at 07:07:43 in Politics

“Jon, you ask for support in so many areas of which I have backed. I as a 100 % disabled vet have been waiting over 2 1/2 years for a dental appointment at the VA. I requested to see a doctor on May 1 of this year for my service connected injuries at the VA and still nothing. Our compensation is underpaid by 25% and has not been touched since the forties. My question to you is when will you and others like you who have the public ear make a stand on issues that are needed now for so many of us. I'm not a throw away veteran and to tell you the truth I'm tired of being treated as such.”

GAO: VA Failing to Serve Women Warriors

Commented Jul 17, 2009 at 08:33:40 in Politics

“America’s idea of supporting the troops both current and past is nothing more than a catch phrase and a yellow ribbon magnet hanging on the back their vehicle. VA disability compensation is under paid by at least 25 percent. VA health care is substandard and is use to train doctors many of which are from out of country. Shouldn’t a veteran receive any less healthcare than the politicians in Washington?
Two things are needed right now. Increase Veterans Compensation by no less than 25 percent and off Tricare to those disabled Veterans who want it. I for one would be willing to pay a copay so I can seek decent medical care on the outside. I for one wouldn't take my dog to a VA hospital, why should are vets have to.
Bottom line is this nobody is fighting for these two things and I doubt anyone will ever....”

“We are ice flow veterans. What is an ice flow veteran one might ask? We are the veterans who were wounded or injured in the service our country. Upon leaving the military we are forced to fight from day one for compensation and medical care that should be a given right for service to this nation

When we were healthy doing what we were told, going where we had to, fighting those who were and are the enemies of this nation we were important and needed. But when we could no longer serve because of injury or wounds we became a burden to society. How dare we expect this nation to care for us, just who do we think we are? If it was not for the veterans this country would not be what it is, I guess those in DC have forgot about that.

Many of those in power have the power to make sure our compensation is fair and correct, and medical care is top shelf. Do they use their power and position to do what is right? Not really, they fight against and drag their feet on just about all veteran’s issues. They give the impression that if they had their way they would take those who can no longer serve their needs they would round them up and put them on an ice flow until they have drifted away until they are out of site and out of mind, no longer a burden to their society.”

“If it were up to me I would get rid of the VA hospitals and offer disabled veterans Tri-care so they could go on the outside for their medical care with they doctors that they choose. My local VA hospital is a training hospital and the care that I have received I wouldn't offer to my dog. In my opinion the veterans should get medical care no less than those elected officials receive, most of which never put nothing on the line for this country. If it were for those in uniform putting it all on the line those in Washington wouldn't be able to have what they have but hell we are only one percent of the population so we are not a large part of the voting base and these yahoo's know it so why should they give a rats A$$ about vets. Thgis country has a history of casting aside veterans, just ask a Vietnam vet how he or she has been taking care of....”

Yea Paul vets don't rate news coverage the media feeds that American people BS story after story on no brainer issues and American people eat these stories up like those who slow down to look at a wreck on the side of the road. “Paul I applaud your efforts but bottom line is this most in this country could care less about those who wear or have worn the uniform. They wave their flags and put "Support the troops" magnets on their cars and call it good. They don't care if we receive substandard care at the VA hospitals and we may have to wait month after month to get it. They don't care that Veterans are under compensated for their wounds and injuries that they received in defense of this nation. I live in Rhode Island and what this state offers its veterans is a joke, just look at their site for vets, http://www.dhs.ri.gov/DHS/dvetaff.htm. and the federal government isn't much better. Veterans compensation has been under paid for years and yet the issue has been tied up in the senate with no action except one hearing. The VA medical care is a joke and in my opinion should be abolished and in its place give the vets tricare, it was good enough while they were on active duty it will do the same afterwards.Paul you keep up the fight but don't count on the masses to jump on board on this issue or any issue when it comes to the one percent of the nation who step forward and serve.
