“Also, they allow their stuff to be played on the radio....f or free even. Shoot, AC/DC even licenses their music to be played in short clips at sporting events, and I've heard them go on record against having their albums broken up.”

“I can understand why a band like tool, or the beatles would refuse to break up albums, since they're largely concept driven affairs on later releases, and you could argue that it's like selling individual scenes from a movie. AC/DC on the hand...Gim me a break. Those guys are the definition of single-driven, radio friendly, low-brow rock. The fact that they'd defend their albums as some sort of hi-concept art works is laughable, considering the fact that about 80% of their music is about fighting, hott ladies, and fighting with/for hott ladies.”

I agree... when describing any of the bands listed here. Bands view all of their music with a sense of self-importance that doesn't extend to the majority of listeners. Tool's "concept albums" don't suffer degradation when listened to out-of-order any more than most any other band. Even Pink Floyd, The Who and some of the other 70's rock that was driven by the concept album stands up just fine when sampling a singe song rather than the full event. This isn't Stravinsky. It's fluffy, popular rock with halfway decent lyrics at best.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a fan of those 70's bands and lots of other "fluff" (excluding Tool), but the bands themselves need to realize that they aren't creating an installation at a museum. They're writing music that people, for the most part, like to nod their heads to while driving home from work. Limiting the format may be extremely relevant for the bands themselves, but the vast majority of listeners would rather have something that's accessible and easy obtain. If the bands don't want to succumb to that, that's fine, but their pompous reasoning is laughable.”

“I like a lot of AC/DCs music but I think Dweezil Zappa summed them up the best. "They have like 600 songs, and they all have different words".”

“John Lennon was always a singles guy. He expressed amusement at the notion of an LP as a work of art. The Beatles contributed heavily to the LP-as-art phenomenon but they never had any objections to selling singles even off of concept-heavy Sgt. Peppers.”

“AC/DC's real problem is that their albums tend to contain previously released material. Do we really need multiple variants on "Whole Lotta Rosie?"”

“Yeah, I think everyone knows what the outcome of this "test" is. Iraq's "government" (or whatever we're calling it) can't protect its citizens from inside threats, much less a much more powerful, much more organized Iran. Either we fight this battle for them, or watch Iraq become "Greater Iran". Unless we get massive international support here, we're in serious trouble here.”

“Actually, if you have health insurance, there's an 80% chance your money is already used to pay for these procedures on a regular basis, and you merely didn't care enough about it to ask, look into it, or do anything about it until some talking head on teevee brought it up and made a scary moral issue out of what you've comfortably paid for your entire adult life.”

“Opposing the Dem's plan and opposing health care reform are two entirely separate things. At this point, it's safe to say that no one's happy with the plan (though some define that as the definition of "compromise"), but to say that American's across the board are happy with 15-20% of the population uninsured and 15-20% of our GDP going to health care spending (#1 in the industrialized world, go USA, #1!!!) is absurd.”
