“Nothing will happen to these folks, unless we begin to have the type of engagements that are mature and rational and honest. Centuries of racism has manifested the racism in America, it is not the open verbal nutcases who like wearing bedsheets and starting barn fires, it is the regular folks who many do not and have never engaged in such overt acts of racism, who matter. These folks are normal on the outside; they are moms and dads, aunts and uncles, brothers, cousins and sisters and our neighbors. They have been let down time and time again, by cowardice in themselves and those they believed were out to keep them safe from non whites, and while they were not out on the front lines engaging in lynchings, bombings and murder, they did come to see it as justified and necessary to protect themselves from what they believed and believe are inferior people.

The power of racism is today, so omnipotent that it exists even without folks noticing it is being waged and advocated; because the institutions founded in its name continue to perpetuate it with out any loud bells and whistles. Racial profiling is an example of this, there aren't any written rules sanctioning it, but we know it is real and it is disportionately affected non white men. The day to day way such things become acceptable and normal, then push the expectations that it must be protected and kept in place.”

We'd better get a grip on this real quick, because this is exactly where they are taking us. They are emulating Wal-Mart on a massive scale.”

“I agree whole-heartedly that Universal healthcare would pave the way for the job-flexibility that America lacks. Our huge companies have been caught in a bind for decades as the retirees started to build-up on the books. If we had National Healthcare, the companies wouldn't have the burdens of these retirees' health costs, and much more room to lay-off seasonally. Healthcare has become a huge benefit that forces managers to even size up a potential new-hire's state of health, i.e. the source of ageism in hiring. By having a government run (or at least guaranteed) system, the potential to improve the labor market place is exciting.”

You put your finger on it! I've been trying to explain that to my Republican brother-in-law for years now.
The conservatives stubbornly refuse to see how they are scrooing American workers. They don't want universal healthcare, but then they complain about US wages being too high.”
